Great question. It would almost require a select group of voters w/ access to all players put in contention from local writers/coaches. They'd have to watch film w/ clear grading criteria. That will never happen, so we are left w/ regional bias.

By the same token, I don't think that coaches are the best barometer of all state. How many players, NOT ON THEIR SCHEDULE, do they see to judge? Most just vote for players based on reputation or word of mouth from other coaches.

What a match!!!!!!!!!!!! UK plays 2 players all the way around and their system is a 5-1, so 3 of those girls never came off of the court. What badasses!

Completely agree with this. He understands the struggle of getting the county kids to buy in.

That's not good enough. He didn't adjust w/ his talent at Highlands. He coached under Dale who was the master of adapting his teams to their strengths, not force them into a specific system. He may not have had a Collinsworth or Hamblen type talent or a Smith/Kunhein on the line, but he had a lot of talent. For example, the underutilization of Brycen Huddleston will forever be one of the most grievous coaching blunders in Highlands history. I say this as a fan of him as a teacher, as my kids loved him.

I disagree. If you go to camps and look great, but your regular season numbers look bad, it opens the door for questions.

Agree to disagree. As to the point of the thread, Coach Yeagle was the best of the 90s and was the difference and I say that with all due respect to Mr. Schneider

I take a JR Scott Wiggins in 92 over a Soph Hergott.

On my end it was just talk. They beat the brakes off of us my junior and senior year.

That’s exactly what I said, not a rivalry. That said…The cow pasture…stop. Neport was fine. NewCath fumbled 3 times inside the 5 in the regular season in 92. It was the one year in the 90s that they had the size advantage over Beechwood and, after Berger, NewCath had the next 4 best skill players. Those two years Yeagle was the difference.

We just couldn't get past Beechwood in the playoffs. '91, no chance. '92 NewCath was the better overall team, just didn't get it done. '93 Again, better team, Beechwood won the game that mattered after losing the district to us. '94 no chance. '95 we had them and then it rained...I feel we were a better match up against Mayfield. '96-'99 we didn't play in the playoffs and offered zero resistance in the regular season. '00 is when the rivalry really started. Before that, it was rivalry in the same vein as Steelers - Bengals. We thought it was a rivalry, they didn't.

It was rumored that they believed they were getting a home run hire when they fired an extremely good coach. Didn't happen. The program has good youth numbers and make championship games. I'm interested in who is in the search.

I didn’t drive Route 8 home last night due to the fog. It was pretty thick.

They have a lot of good things going for them, but they shot themselves in the foot a lot last night. I was impressed w the athletes and their size. I’ve only seen them once so it could have been a bad game or refs were a little too loose with flags. I know a personal foul on #55 was a very, very weak call but it negated a good play. They had holds that negated a TD and other big runs. They gifted NewCath first downs.
