I was told the staff is filled out for the most part. I know Dave Schneider is still on staff, and other coaches that I heard returning to the fold are Dan Wagner and Jack Hering. It’s looking to be an Alum-heavy coaching staff to ring in Year 1 for Coach Brown (and brand new stadium).

Diving into the numbers… BB: 07 - 15 - 12 - 17 | 51 NC: 17 - 19 - 22 - 18 | 76 Brossart scorers: Cozzi 8, Hesse 8, Kuntz 7, Bezold 7, Boruske 5, Rowe 5, Steffen 4, Trauth 3, Hill 2, Glass 2 NewCath scorers: Waggoner 16, Luhn 15, Messmer 14, Stevie 10, Verst 6, W. Meyer 5, Hundemer 3, Ruschman 3, J. Meyer 3, Green 1 Breds out-rebounded the Mustangs 33-20. Breds also shot the ball very well from the perimeter 12/26. Mustangs struggled in that category going 2/14. Breds played arguably their best game of the season with 4 players in double figures and bringing the intensity on the defensive end for 4 quarters. They seem to operate at their best offensively with Messmer attacking the rim and being surrounded by 4 shooters. Overall, great atmosphere on the Hill. Stands were packed for Senior Night. This is always an interesting game to watch because both teams know each other so well from playing against each other throughout grade school in their recreational leagues. Since 2012, NCC has gone 14-1 in this rivalry match up.

I’m not aware of what was said specifically after the game but Witherspoon did get a tech called on him in the 4Q… Perhaps a continuation of that discussion. FWIW Coach Luhn got a tech called on him in the 2Q. Overall, I thought refs called a good game and deescalated when necessary.

Per LinkNKY Facebook page: St. Henry’s Caden Kunstek hits the 3-pointer in overtime at the buzzer as the Crusaders defeat Cooper, 46-43. What a game in Erlanger this evening!

BHS: 19 - 14 - 7 - 18 | 58 NCC: 21 - 7 - 14 - 13 | 55 Beechwood Sophomore Dylan Topmiller shot lights out tonight. Finishing with 32 points. His 8 3’s were too much for the Breds to overcome. Tigers also got offensive support from K. Brockett, 13 points. NewCath fought hard and showed a lot of grit being undersized. Breds were led by Jr. Gabe Waggoner with 17 points. His three 3s in the 4th quarter kept the Breds close. Luhn finished with 13 pts and Messmer with 9 pts. Entertaining high school basketball on the Hill. Although a loss, a much better showing by NewCath compared to the game last month. They face off against Dayton at home on Saturday. Tigers travel to Cooper on Saturday next.

The Camels defeated the Thoroughbreds at NewCath tonight (02/07) CCHS: 25 - 22 - 22 - 19 | 88 NCC: 12 - 17 - 14 - 30 | 73 Austin Davie led the way for the Camels with 34 points. He got help from Lucas Anthrop (16 points) and Cade Anthrop (15 points). NCC’s Johnny Luhn had 24 points. Junior Gabe Waggoner had 15 points (4 threes). Entertaining/interesting game on the Hill. Breds were down 18 at the half and could’ve hung their heads, but they fought hard in the second half. The refs did a nice job of keeping the game from going a different direction. Some talking going on between the players in the 3Q and double technicals assessed at one point (1 to a Camel and 1 to a Bred player). However, a clean 4Q for the most part where the Breds outscored the Camels (30 to 19) to eventually lose by 15. Similar to the Cooper game, the Breds still without 3 rotation guys (Jack Gearding, Will Sandfoss, and Eddie Bivens), and it doesn’t look like they’ll be back so playing with a shortened bench. Best of luck to both teams the rest of the way!

Definitely a lot of buzz for Coach Brown coming back to The Hill! Question for the CovCath faithful: how would describe his defensive style, scheme, etc? Also, any other items of note like player development? Additionally, has there been any speculation on if he will bring any CovCath assistants with him to NewCath?

If that’s the case then my timing prediction from last night is a bit off; nevertheless, they must be confident and ready to roll!

That would put an announcement by tomorrow, and I would be very surprised if that’s the case. Looking back at the timeline, it was announced publicly that Lickert was leaving on 01/13, NCC posted about it on 01/14, and I heard from a reliable source that weekend (01/17) saying there were 11 applicants at that point. Source also heard they would start scheduling interviews soon, so I’m thinking they are in the midst of interviews now and may not have an announcement for another couple weeks. As for off season conditioning, I would imagine the on-staff S&C coach would help lead that along with Dave Schneider.

The Thoroughbreds defeated the Bulldogs on Tuesday night on their home court.

Final Score: WV 68 / NCC 55 Bearcats put together a strong second half, scoring 19 points to NCC’s 15 in the 3rd and then didn’t look back making their free throws in the 4th (8 for 9). They were led by Cole Dryden with 22 points. Breds were led by senior Johnny Luhn’s 25 points.

Halftime - WV leads 33 - 31 WV was trailing after the 1st 11 - 17 Both teams playing hard.
