I was there, really good game and was proud we fought so hard to stay in it. I’m gonna be honest here, we got a few calls in that one. Probably lose that one on a neutral site. The purple won’t lose many games. Sivills could have had 40, made big plays but missed a few he normally makes.

Ouch that is not good. What happened?

I honestly have a hard time seeing either of these teams making noise in the state tourney. Just missing a few pieces but both will be tough at years end.

Was a good game. Mccracken looked like the better team in the first half and Mayfield in the second. Shame they blew the whistle and it had to end like that because that will be remembered as what decided the game. Should have let it go into overtime, but there were lots of bad calls the entire game. Sivills had 28 for McCracken and the Guthrie boys played well. Good one.

Gonna be a close one, probably wont be able to make it because my daughter has a middle school game at the same time. I talked to a friend that coaches for St. Mary and he said one of the Guthrie boys is the real deal for Mayfield. I've watched McCracken for a while and I know they have 2 kids that can play with anyone in Sivills and the sophomore point guard. They also have a few really good outside shooters. I'm guessing if McCracken makes their three pointers they win, if they miss them they lose. If Mayfield can speed the game up and make it a transition game it favors Mayfield. Without having seen Mayfield its hard for me to say, but I would have to favor them at this point because the Mustangs are just so inexperienced together at this point in the season.

McCracken looks really good guys, I’m guessing they will be hard to beat and are right there with Mayfield early on.

Bit surprised at this score, figured Graves would handle them easily. Is Graves going to compete against Mayfield?

This was a good game to see where things stand in region 1. Marshall at Mccracken Friday will give us some more info. I think it’s going to end up between mayfield and Mccracken and I believe that is going to be close. Graves I’m sure will be up there as well. Really fun year in region 1.

Great update! I watched McCracken play Livingston and was really impressed by their sophomore point guard Noah Dumas. He has really improved his game and filled out physically, nice player. The transfer McCracken got from Hickman, Grant Davis, can REALLY shoot the ball and creates driving holes for Sivills. I just watched the first half of the game and Sivills struggled to get started and was in foul trouble but must have had a big second half. I have Tilghman friends on facebook and watch their videos and its a dunk show, and I think they played a few fair teams and beat them badly. They are going to be really good and I think are in the convo with McCracken, Graves and Mayfield as the best team. I really think whoever wins the coaching battle this year wins the region. I'm going to guess it finishes Mayfield, McCracken, Tilghman, Graves

Great input here as I begin my first full season following KY girls basketball. I watched a bunch of these girls last year in the state tourney, and was very impressed with the talent across KY. As I've researched a little more it seems there is a ton of talent around the state, just wish there were more girls in far western KY. Charlee Settle is a JR this year at Calloway and she is really good, but not a ton around her. Let me know of any other girls in region 1 and 2 that I should watch!

Really liked GRC last year in my first year following KY girls HS bball closely. I watched the tourney on my computer and really thought they were a great team and think they could win it all this year.

Of note in Western Kentucky from the girls I've seen over the years: 8th Grade: Paducah Tilghman - Destiny Thomas (KY premier, dad Rod played for Murray State), Marshall County - Hall (Dan Halls daughter who played for vandy), McCracken County - Caroline Sivills (Dad is Scott who played for Murray State), Paducah Tilghman- Diamond Gray (Mom Stephanie played for Murray State). There are several others that will develop into solid players, but the list above is what stands out to me in the 2023 class. My daughter is in the 2024 class but she has always played against these girls so i'm pretty familiar with them. Actually coached them all at some point other than the Hall girl.

I have one that plays that is going to be a good player. There are a handful of others in Western Kentucky but I believe there is more talent in other parts of the state. I know Ashland has another Robinson coming up that is good.

It looks as if Mayfield is the favorite for sure, but they will definitely have some competition with 3-4 teams that can beat them on a given night.

He got invited to go watch UK practice the day after his brother Will played against UK, Will plays for transy. Not that it means anything at this point but he is on the radar. I bet he has a big year.

Haven’t seen him yet but I expect them to move Sivills out in space to make plays so that will be of benefit. They lost some good guard play so the dumas kid that’s a soph will have to fill the void.

Should be a good district race with them and Mccracken id say they are fairly even. Really depends on how the supporting cast for each team has developed. Rod will have a great year he is a top notch kid and rock solid player.

I'm curious if there is enough pushback from the Marshall County folks that weren't too excited to have Zion join the club that it could have hurt the ruling. Those folks in Marshall County can be pretty connected to the right people. Sounded like several weren't that thrilled Zion was there. I for one was hoping to see him play just to have a high caliber kid in western KY.

I honestly don't think they will hire attorneys based on the dads statement about accepting the decision of the committee and moving on, earlier in the year. Then again, things may have changed after hearing the verdict and having moved and such. I'm guessing he goes off to prep school. Man, talk about a way to ruin your high school experience, this kid has lost any semblance of a fun childhood and I hope he is a victim to the system vs being a victim to a dad that's been moving him around for bball.

Great to hear we have some talent back in the district, and I've heard about the kid as that's impressive to have someone ranked that high nationally in our area, I will certainly follow him. I played for Livingston county and had several friends I played against at lyon county. A few years prior to my time Keith Matchem (spelling?) was a really good player for lyon. Look forward to following your boy rhperr0 and congrats on all the fun you will have watching him grow! Have you always been in the lyon county area or did you move in from another area?

Assuming Zion is eligible (which I saw he tweeted something like "let me play") then I would assume it would be: 1. Marshall 2. Mayfield 3. McCracken 4. Graves 5. Tilghman I think Tilghman lost JJ Reid, I know they still have Thomas but not sure how much else they have. Mayfield has more numbers in that they have 3-4 solid players so I expect them to be really good. McCracken has Jackson Sivills who had a big summer with a lot of mid major type offers so I expect him to have a big year now that all of the senior guards are gone, just not sure there is enough around him to be a great team. Graves has the Naranjo kid and a great program so they could very well end up 3rd in the region. Should be a good balanced year in region 1.

They are pretty serious about softball down here which is probably why they have had so much success with teams in western Ky. They do it so the high school coaches can coach the middle school girls. Every kid takes private lessons weekly it seems and most play year around. We have a good crop of girls at McCracken from 7th to freshmen and they are keyed in on those girls and should contend for a few state titles. I bet there are 12-15 girls in those classes that could play at the next level if they stick with it, maybe more.

Mccracken girls went undefeated on the day and won, they are going to be really good and should contend for several state titles in a few years.
