Mayfield is coming off an 88-41 win over St. Mary after a horrendous weekend down in Memphis. McCracken County comes in at 4-0 while winning all four contests by 27+ points and are yet to have 50 points scored on them in a single game. This is an early season matchup of the top 2 teams in Region 1. How do you see this one playing out?

I called out this game last week in the BGP Discussion thread, I think this is one of the best early season games statewide in terms of figuring who is who for 2018-19. While neither team is a finished product, I do think McCracken wins this game, and I also think this well could be a First Region Championship preview. I'm not as bullish on Mayfield as some others, but I do think they are very good -- but not quite enough (yet) to topple McCracken on the road. Wish I was closer for this one!

I think these two are the best teams in Region 1. Now I’d Harmon starts playing then there are three to talk about.

I think Graves and Tilghman are in the mix, but these are the two best 1st Region teams in the early going. I'll take the Mustangs in a close win at home.

Mayfield is going to have to step up their half court defense if they want to live up to their potential and expectations. They are still without one of their better players who might be their best defender, along with Matthews. I'll still go with Mayfield in a close one. I believe Mayfield will have a double digit lead at some point but it will end up closer than that.

Matthews was back last night.

McCracken hasn't been tested yet and Mayfield has. I believe Mayfield will win this game in a close one, similar to last year's early game so I wouldn't be surprised if McCracken wins either.

Should be a really good game.

Gonna be a close one, probably wont be able to make it because my daughter has a middle school game at the same time. I talked to a friend that coaches for St. Mary and he said one of the Guthrie boys is the real deal for Mayfield. I've watched McCracken for a while and I know they have 2 kids that can play with anyone in Sivills and the sophomore point guard. They also have a few really good outside shooters. I'm guessing if McCracken makes their three pointers they win, if they miss them they lose. If Mayfield can speed the game up and make it a transition game it favors Mayfield. Without having seen Mayfield its hard for me to say, but I would have to favor them at this point because the Mustangs are just so inexperienced together at this point in the season.

I worded my post wrong. I just meant that Alonzo Daniel is probably Mayfield's best defender along with Trey Matthews. Didn't mean to insinuate that Matthews was still out. That's what made the trip to Memphis that much worse was the fact that Mayfield was without their two best defenders.

Word is that Mayfield is at full strength for this game.

McCracken County up 32-19 at half.
