My last comment because this thread is funny. One person fires something out and of course this an evil team now. There were 10 eligible players to play varsity last night. 13 on the roster. 3 hurt: Buckner, Stamper and Vickers 5 started. Meier, Niece, Jones, Harmeyer, Harney. (Gilliam has started last 2 years but Harney was tabbed last night) Off the bench: Gilliam, Bush, Waite, Dressman and Chenoite ALL players played in the first and 2nd halves. You clarly see that you don't have a lot in numbers to go to if you want to go into your bench. At least two girls will be on the floor that have seen significant minutes. There is no way around it unless you play with 4.

I'm not sure what this proves...? There were 10 eligible players to play varsity last night. Your proving that 7 of them did the lion share of the scoring??? If your trying to prove something on disproportional play. Maybe post minutes??? Maybe that doesn't sell what your hoping everyone to buy? Were you at the game last night?

Yes. Your right. My understanding too the budget was cut this year so the staff couldn't bring in all the kids to play together all summer. Seeing is how they are from all parts of the country. (sarcasm). I will say though its funny how comments like this come about. I can't think of one kid that lives outside of the Kenton County School district. Wait.... no never mind. There isn't one. Not one single player.

I walked out of gym for a few starting the 4th qtr. cam back in with a little over 6 minutes to play. 4 players on the floor were all players that do not play significant minutes. There was no press and bailey was running point. The other four players on the floor are not ball handlers. They are bigs, so the coach leaves one player in to handle the ball. That basically leaves one of the players that start. I too would have left Harney in as she is still learning SK system and could use the extra work. Not from a skill standpoint, but from a program acclimation. Smart move on the coaches part. Can't emphasize enough, sk did not press late in game. However, as ncc subbed it played into sk hand as ncc struggled stopping sk's bits in the post because they had a very tall team on the floor. That I think contributed to the score as well. I know it's frustrating losing by that much. But this was a typical game that just clearly got away from ncc. If I'm sk. I tell my girls to play hard. I think it's worse when you say " rebound that ball but don't shoot the layup ". That bothers me a great deal. Just like football. Run between the tackles and if you can't stop that I can't help you

Harney opened the game with 3 - 3 pointers and sk never looked back. She seems to be starting to get more comfortable and played well tonight. Sk was just to much for NCC and ran away with this one 70 - 30

33. 15. Half. Ncc playing a lot of zone. Good for sk girls as I don't think they have faced a zone much this year

Any other updates? Would have like to see the game tonight but decided to stay home in front of the fireplace Who played well? Highlands can be a solid team this year and can threaten the 9th from what I have seen How is Scott? I personally thought they would be better this year but seem to be struggling

I am so confused with you Dixie. You pm me to tell me you know who I am and then you give me names of people I don't even know. Accuse me of having others back me up. Heck, i don't know a single person on this site. At least I don't think I do. Rcc9 has 'liked' me a lot and couldn't begin to tell you who he or she is. You are reading way to hard into my assessment of this team. I think they could be great and do extremely well. That is why I am following the development of this team. They are well coached and have tremendous players but they have to figure out how to do it as a team. That's it. I have never singled out a player negatively, you reference two above.....I don't know who they are (I assume one is niece, and I would say she knows the importance of her role; the other I don't have a clue). But I would say this time of year I don't think any kid is playing At their peak level. At least I hope not. Hope that comes later in year. I did like what I saw at notre dame and think that's great to build on. Hope they string two together tonight. They seem to be starting to feel comfortable with each other. I know they are still missing one girl (buckner) that brings a different dimension so hopefully she gets back soon too. Nice to see stamper, harney, jones and Gilliam get out and pressure the ball. My favorite kind of ball to watch

I wasn't trying to stir the pot with my comment. Rather, I was talk to you later to stir conversation. I agree with all the responses above. I thought they had a great draw in the state tournament a few years ago. I also thought that set some unfair high expectations. But also curious to see if the team progressed over the next few years to approach those expectations. One variable you also can't ignore is the coaching change. I do not know whether that was a good thing or not but it is a question

I wouldn't worry about individual scoring. I would worry about who is playing defense and hope the ball is being distributed like it was against notre dame. Absolutely nothing wrong with what they did the other night. Chemistry is the key for this team to achieve their goals. I would rather be balanced which is a nightmare to play against vs guarding one or two. Easier to stop one or two vs 6 or 7. Defense will carry you into post season and keep you in games on off nights. You have to be able to score; which I would hope they learned from the passing clinic Mercer county put on sk. That's when you know you can have something special. Love the cal quotes. We can all eat if we are a band of brothers (sisters)

Thus the comment on tempo If Meier posts and pins their center from sacred heart she won't have a chance. Again that's an if. Foot race Meier looses. Power game. No contest

If sk plays hard and together. They win. Sacred heart doesn't have an answer for sk center if she shows up and plays hard. Guard play should be interesting. If the ball is moving and Sks guards are aggressive at driving to the rim and dropping to Meier then it will be tough on sacred heart. If sk sits back then I think Berger has to much command of the offense and sacred heart can run their sets. That would be bad news for sk. Sk doesn't not win a shooting contest. Keys for sk Tempo , defensive disruption, ball movement, post play Keys for Sacred heart Tempo, rebounding , stopping ball penetration and ability to run offensive sets

SK came out of the game with very balanced scoring. It looks like the coaches are still playing with rotations and figuring out who can do what. Which is excellent this time of year. I thought SK gave better effort this game and really loved to see them working hard on defense and taking care of the ball. This team can be really good when they figure out all of the pieces and everyone hopefully settles into their respective roles. Well coached team.

They haven't seemed to the same to me since there coaching change. Not saying..... just saying....

I agree 100%. As good as Mason has been the last few years they have equally been off there game at times. To beat Mercer they better bring their A game. They are capable of winning but also could lose big if they aren't ready.

I will be traveling and watching this game and will be curious to see this matchup. I've heard a lot about young players for Conner so I'm anxious to see how they hold up to CC offense. I think coach Menefee offense will stress Conner to play solid defense the entire game. I'm taking CC in this game as I think the camels are the better team at this point

Thank you Panda for posting the pictures. I was only able to see the 2nd half of this game and by that time it was out of hand or most certainly close to being out of hand. Montini def. had some players! Very impressive team Very contrasting from the Ryle game. SK simply overwhelmed Ryle and hard to tell much from that game. I can almost say the same thing with this game however it was SK that seemed to be getting overwhelmed. Offensively, SK really struggled to take care of the ball. I would like to know the live ball turnovers alone in this game as that creates all kinds of issues defensively and obviously impacts the number of shots you are able to get up. Montini size seemed to bother SK as well. I'm guessing they were close to 10 blocks and SK also shot almost double digit air balls. I think the size and pressure from Montini had something to do with that. Defensively, the guards really struggled again stopping ball penetration and getting thru screens. Montini was very well coached and very talented. They used multiple 'set' plays to get open threes and their girls seemed to knock them down every time. SK also missed multiple, multiple block out opportunities that allowed Montini to get second and third chances. Outside of ball penetration, rebounding is starting to be an issue for the team. The better the competition you play the more that has to be cleaned up. Simple pride; concentrate, stop your player from penetrating, block out. Be in solid defensive position every time and the sky could be the limit. More focus on defense vs how many points I have. I'm sure these coaches will grade the players out and they will all learn from this. Great team to play against early in the season. Hopefully these girls will learn from this experience and continue to grow as a team. Team ball, ball movement, ball security and better defense. As coach Cal says... they will all eat, otherwise..... ughhh

I agree with the assessment that if this game is close, sk will have a lot of work to do. Not interested in final score as much as seeing how the game is played. Coach stowers often works on bench, plays, players early in season. That said, I will find it interesting to see how sk guards stop ball penetration from Ryle. Sk has a huge advantage in strength at the guard and interior positions so I expect sk to be able to play a little bully ball. It's the finese part I'm curious to watch. My first game to take in this year so I'm also curious to see how much ball movement they have vs settling for outside shots. Curious to see team chemistry. This team is going to have to learn to take high percentage shots if they want to make any run at the state. From what I was told about Merced scrimmage, way to much ball penetration by Mercer and they took sk to a clinic for ball movement and our rebounding wasn't lacking. Early early early but I'm confident we will see improvement in these areas

1. Holmes 1. Simon Kenton 3. Scott 4. Highlands 5. Campbell county 6. Holy Cross 7. Ryle I have my top 7. From what I heard regarding sk scrimmage they have a lot of work to do defensively. Guards consistently allowed merger to penetrate causing the defense to scramble too often. That's not a horrible thing this time of year Highlands will surprise some people. Very athletic and if they play together they will be tough by year end Campbell is tough as they force all 5 to play defense. Some teams that have a few holes in their D usually struggle with all their backdoor cuts Ryle has one of the best 'point guards' in nky. That is what makes them dangerous. She will make her teammates better and that always makes a team dangerous. However. They lack numbers and an inside presence. I don't see that changing anytime soon

I agree. I didn't think anyone really stood out in the light scrimmage. Wish I could go down and watch them scrimmage a very good Mercer County team tomorrow but I have other things to take care of the home front. Will be interested to hear the outcome and specifics. Coach Stowers looks to have the makings of one of his better teams he has had in sometime. Good luck this year!!! I also thought SK boys has some key pieces to make a deep run in the Region. First time I have seen there team this year. They still have plenty of size but I'm not sure they have the right personnel in the correct positions still. I'm not sure what you are referring too. I'm not stirring up trouble, I'm simply pointing out that if SK can improve upon these deficiencies then they have the potential to be very very good this year. I take your comment that I am way off base or just causing trouble. Please correct me where you think I am off base.

I'll try to answer these comments Heartbreaker - I think the Buckner girl is out. No im not a parent. Don't even have a relative that plays. Probably unusual for someone to post like this but I'm new to it Dixie. - Lol. ??? I'm assuming your saying I'm 100% wrong? Or which point? Sk a great pressure defensive team last year? They shouldn't feed the post and take advantage of one of the biggest centers in the state? Their a great 3 pt shooting team? Adding the new player adds a tremendous amount to this team? Passtheball Yes. I agree from what I have heard. I think I was attempting to say that with harney on board, Jones having a year of maturity and the other two that have started previously year this adds missing tool for the old toolbox.

You are correct. But it will be interesting to see if SK has addressed there biggest weakness. Defense. Yes I said this team has a weakness with Defense and that's hard to say with a Stower's coached team. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Where I'm headed with that comment is that SK over the past three years has not been able to guard on the perimeter. While they have good guard play. They really lack in the ability to extend the floor defensively. This years team may be able to change that weakness with the addition of Harney and Jones having a year to mature. This team will be able to extend the floor with Gilliam, Harney, Jones and Buckner. All four girls are quick and can flat out pressure the ball so worrying about foul trouble on the perimeter this year shouldn't be as much of a concern. If this team can learn to pressure some of the weaker ball handling teams then they can expect different result. However, they will also have a huge advantage with their inside post play in Meier. They must recognize her in the post and feed her. Not many teams have a post presence that can stop her. Many times last year I would see the guards just stare at her when she had someone pinned behind her. SK is not a great 3 point shooting team and that hasn't changed. You have to respect them but they must feed Meier in the post. I watched SK vs. Scott last year and the difference in the game was the athleticism of Buckner in the mid range game and the fact Scott had no one that could effectively guard Meier, and Niece played and excellent offensive game. The glaring weakness in that game was they had no one that could guard on the perimeter other than Gilliam and Meier. I think the Tremble County loss really showed this glaring weakness. Without being able to extend their defense and pressure a team that didn't have tremendous ball handling. They packed it in and simply allowed Trimble to play their game. If this years version is going to be any different. They are going to have to be able to show they can add a dimension to their game that allows them to create offense thru their defense. They are also going to have to realize the value of the basketball and not jack 3's up every other possession. Keys: Play defense - Championship teams must play D. Some of these girls struggle in this area. Extend your defense - add this to your tool box. High percentage shots- too many of these kids stand around the 3 point line and shoot about 30% from their. Take care of the ball Feed the post - don't need as many 3's when you can score in the lane. Play inside out translates to higher percentage shooting.
