Different kind of ranking, but these were my favorite games to watch from the weekend. 1. 4A Boyle and Franklin Co. Insane amount of talent on both sides, and plenty of drama. 2. 2A Beechwood and LCA Just a great game that ended in dramatic fashion. 3. 5A BG and Owensboro Im biased, I love watching BG. 4. 3A Ashland and Etown Wow, is Ashland’s defense good or what? 5. 1A Paintsville and KCD It was awesome to watch Paintsville win their first ring. 6. 6A Trinity and Male Trinity is an awesome team to watch, but they had no competition in 6A this year.

I had the pleasure to play on Team KY during my 7th grade year, it was loads of fun and I made friends there that I’ve been friends with since then. We got to play Team Tennessee in the first round and lost, I believe they went on to play in the Alamo Dome and come 2nd in the nation. It’s an awesome opportunity, and there have been some amazing players to come through the system. Thanks for letting us know! I know the middle school purples were runner ups in the 8th grade Div 1 this year, they have some great talent. I believe the last team to make it to the state championship their 8th grade year was the 2017 class, correct me if I’m wrong.

Congrats BG! Can’t say I expected this team to win state when the year started, and I’m so happy for Coach Spader. Also congrats to Owensboro, they were a great team.

I know a team with a ton of talent who’s sitting at home this week, I think they’re in 5A. You’re only as strong as your weakest link.

I’m not sure, my school never made the effort to switch it to mornings. I know the swim team did stuff before school though.

I know almost nothing about both teams besides what I’ve read on BGP. I’ll take Boyle 28-21. Should be a great game by the sounds of it.

1. When I played, we started the second week of January. 4 days a week. 2. All of the normal coaches are there and they all did different things. One did speed bags, one did stadiums, one did weight room etc. 3. Everyone is expected besides winter sport athletes, baseball only came 2 days a week. 4. Right after school for 2.5 hours, just like normal practice. M T W TH, 3:15-5:45 5. Nutrition was talked about when I was there, but now free food is given to the players. I personally was told “gain 20 pounds and you’ll play” before the offseason training of my sophomore year.

The play calling this year has been quite iffy, it almost seemed to me that the OC was being very conservative and didn’t want to take any chances. As mentioned above, Stegman is a UNIT.

In previous years with Strickler, Wallace, Drobocky, etc. a simple slant over the middle is a gauranteed first down. Not very many kids are gonna get Dingle down by themselves, so I’m not sure why they haven’t implemented quick passes to him as much as previous TE’s.

I believe it was a mixture of CCH’s great D-Line and poor play calling by BG. Their defense will continue to make them title contenders in the coming years.

I also picked BG v. Owensboro, but I think most will be really good games!

Here’s a couple of pictures from the 2016 games, taken by the late, great, Paul Gray. I specifically remember 2014 at Rash being one of the most exciting games I’ve gotten to watch. The 2015 playoff game was also surprisingly close despite the score, BG’s defense had multiple stops in their own red zone and turned Owensboro over a few times to allow BG to blow open the game. When these two are at full strength, the games never seem to disappoint.

Talent wise, FD may be better than SW, X, and Cov Cath, but discipline wise, no. Which is why they lost to Owensboro this year, despite having the most athletes of any team in 5A and debatably the state. I do think last night proved that Owensboro is legit, and this will be an outstanding game. As for any of those teams being better than Owensboro, I really don’t know, which is why this game is so interesting to me!

I believe they’ll be on the NFHS network, I sure hope it’s better quality than the Owensboro FD game last night.

I do think Cov Cath was faster than given credit, especially on the defensive side of the ball. BG did have edge speed, but I feel like the play calling didn’t exploit it very well and Cov Cath’s corners were great at diagnosing the screen. The D-Line for Cov Cath was also great at keeping contain most of the night. I’m sure you all will be back even stronger next year after hearing how young the defense was.

A few were unforced, but I may have been watching a different game than you. I specifically remember a pass over the middle where a BG defensive lineman hit Jacob’s arm. Of course that’s just 1/6, but both teams shot themselves in the foot multiple times. 20 forced turnovers in three games isn’t a fluke, Jacob looked terrified all night, even if he had time in the pocket.

I’ll make this short and sweet, if BG can continue to play great defense and move the ball better than last night, they’ll win. If Owensboro can stop the run and move the ball through the air consistently, they’ll win. There’s a lot more you could talk about, but it’ll be a great game and I’m excited for it! That being said my prediction is: Bowling Green 28 Owensboro 14
