Red vs. Blue.

Blueblood vs. New Blood.

Public vs. Private.

Blowout Winner vs. Skin of Their Teeth Comeback.

It is easy to list the differences between these two small school heavyweights, but ultimately for any difference that can be detailed, it is easy to see that the cream has risen to the top and a great game is set to be in store for those lucky enough to attend or watch.

LCA barely broke a sweat in their 48-13 drubbing of Murray. In fact, their game was over so soon from the running clock they probably could have enough time to see the entire 2nd Half of Beechwood's 35-34 thriller against West Carter. LCA brings a lethal offense that has been battle tested against arguably the best schedule in Class 2A. "Arguably" is a key word though, as Beechwood may be the only other team with a similar claim.

The Eagles feature perhaps a front runner for the 2021 Mr. Football award in the dynamic Xavier Brown who is a threat literally at any point on the field wherever he lines up. This could be the X-factor to tip the scales most years, but Beechwood counters with Mr. Cameron Hergott who just may have planted his stake as the 2020 award winner with his heroics in Mount Olive to lead his team to the victory.

Both teams are adept at pouring on the points and doing it behind a balanced offense. The Eagles have blistered the scoreboard scoring in a variety of ways. Meanwhile you have to go back to the first weekend of October to find the last time the Tigers failed to post at least 5 TD's on the board. What has been key to this success is a roster full of guys who fill their roles well. Mason Moore and Will Vernon have been solid when LCA has needed them in the pass game for Drew Nieves. Beechwood's Mitchell Berger, Brady Moore, and Avery Courtney has been their unsung weapons on offense as well. Both teams also sport lines better than the credit they receive.

So will this be the first to 40 wins? Probably not. Though neither team will be mistaken for the steel curtain and have had moments of exposure this year against unfavorable matchups, they both get the job done and make huge plays. It was a Beechwood sack that ultimately sealed the deal for them by forcing a 4th and Forever in the Semi's. Brady Slusher, Berger, and Xavier Campbell can stir the drink and create impact plays. LCA counters with one of the most underrated LB's in the state Mattie Lebryck is a machine. Expect him to put up double digit tackles and get a key sack at least once. Mason Moore doubles as an exceptional DB and Jeffrey Selby has had a breakout season as well.

So obviously this comes down to one team having the better kicker! Wrong! LCA probably has the best kicker in Class 2A in the ultra reliable Andrew Dobbs, but what has been a major advantage all season for them against 2A Competition is a wash as Collin Graman is perhaps the only other kicker considered an equal.

Folks get ready for this one. This will be fun!

  • theguru changed the title to Lexington Christian Academy vs. Beechwood Predictions/Updates (2A State Championship)

Speed will be the difference in this game and LCA has plenty of it and my past observations of Beechwood teams is they are at a disadvantage against faster teams.

Beechwood has Hergott who is a fine Qb but LCA's Qb is a good one too and they have the X factor in Brown. Don't get me wrong this not a slam dunk for LCA but Beechwood is at a slight disadvantage in this game. Beechwood can win this game but they are going to have to play a more mistake free game than they did against West Carter.

Got my tickets so I will be on the Beechwood sideline rooting my heart out. I am hoping Beechwood can get their first 2A title. Can’t say I’m not worried about our defensive woes but I think Cam can load this team on his back and carry them across the finish line.

Beechwood- 35

LCA- 28

Great post, love it. But gotta clear up something. It’s Luke Slusher, not Brady. BW Alum Brady is his cousin and trainer and reason for the transformation from a 215lb Kid in Jan 2019, to a 280lb RT blocking for Kentucky’s Mr Football 8 months later. Brady is the man no doubt, and Luke is doing his best to live up to Mr Miyagis teachings  and if I do say so myself, he is doing just fine........ GOTIGERS! 😎
