  1. Clayton Hired as Head Coach
  2. Great write up! I like my 5A Christian County Colonels to make the charge at BG this season. What did they lose? 3 starters on Defense (2 defensive lineman and 1corner) 2Wr's 2 Olineman 1 RB. Problem with this is two of these guys signed with Purdue. The colonels have got some talented Juniors to replace the lost on Defense, along with ball hawking 6'4 Senior Free Saftey Cory Trice, I expect this unit to shut down opponents. Offensively, comes the hard task of replacing Keyron Catlett. The Cupboard is far from bare, as the 6 returning starters are extremely good along with 4yr starter at QB Kolbi Langhi and the junior backups got plenty of game action. For this team to take the next step it has to improve its mental resolve and toughness. This team is just as talented as any team in the state, now they have to start believing it and get over the Owensboro hump then the Purple Sun Set needs to turn into a Colonel Sun Rise
  3. Don't want to be in the way of AAU basketball! Or traveling Baseball!
  4. BG beat Christian by 15 pts in the playoffs, hardly chopped liver. If it not for Christian already having their schedule locked in, they'd have scheduled Trinity this year. I know that nobody pays attention to the western side of the state, but to insinuate that because BG is not playing one Cincinnati team a year, they need to "step up" is a bit of a stretch.
  5. Coaches have the ability and the "know how" to disconnect themselves emotionally from their players. Not saying they don't care. But when it comes to decision making, most successful coaches do what's best for the team and not what's best for a specific player or fans. Fans have no reason to disconnect emotionally hence the difference in perception.
  6. Got a mixed bag of feelings on this one. On one hand I'm old school and feel as if you wanna be the best you gotta beat the best. On the other hand I understand the issue of the two or three best teams all being in the same region and then someone getting butt hurt cause the other regions aren't as strong. That being said, its all about winning state, but...appearances mean ALOT as well. Captain straddle the fence here lol.
  7. Agreed, Great hire! I wonder what his offensive philosophy will be also. He started off as an option guy with Hoptown. But switched to the spread. Probably will have better o-line selection now, so will he go back to the option attack?
  8. True...If the two teams aren't playing each other then it can be slim. But Hoptown fan base tends to be more faithful then CC's, and the right coach may help rejuvenate a once pride fan base. Not that Clark wasn't it. But for some reason never really was accepted by the fan base. Which is a shame cause he turned the program back around to its winning ways.
  9. Beat Franklin Simpson, and you're going to State. How's that sound for appealing. They are that talented.
  10. Wow this. Was about to post Attitude+mindset+right players+right coaches=success. But you beat me to it
  11. I'm sorry but most high school teams don't have 6'6 gronk roaming the middle of fields. But you are correct, it comes down to play calling and preference. But if I'm not a pound it out off tackle power team, option, outside zone type of team, then I'm not bringing that extra defender in the box. I'm doing what Highlands has done well for years and make your defenders prove that they can consistently tackle in space. I personally don't think it's a "lack" of TE, I think it's a choice not to use one.
  12. I humbly disagree. At this level as a defender I feel like my athlete is better than your athlete at TE. So if you're going to bring a TE in the box you make it easier on me especially if I'm playing an odd defense. You just brought "usually" my best defender back in the box. Look at #27 from BG high school. Would you rather have that beast coming from the slot or off the end of the LOS, Where your TE can't block him anyways? Imo now the offense is playing 10 on 11 with and added defender in the box.
  13. Yea but...Still 2-1 in those three years against Cov Cath. So to reemphasize this is quite a minute/insignificant point.
  14. Probably more of a schematic choice rather than a"lack of". A TE also brings an extra defender into the box. Spread offenses tend to make it easier to dictate were blitzes are coming from. Not that you can't be a spread with a TE in the game. Boils down to preference when play calling.
  15. Good question. I think the poster needs to clarify what a downfall is in his opinion. Maybe just a down year. Change should be expected with a coaching change, now good or bad change determines where the program is going. Still think it's too early to call it a downfall, but stink it up again this year and people may start really start scratching their heads. BW first class are seniors this year, that being said this is his team and his players. So there is my answer. Not enough time to call it a downfall imo. Not yet...
  16. Thanks for the clarification. In this case does seem like a "snubb" then. Especially when it's not really clear on what the grading criteria is. I can see both sides of the argument.
  17. Seriously just curious. Because if Dante is in, means someone is out. So who's out? You are already diminishing it by saying someone was blatantly left off. Which could only mean that someone blatantly got in who shouldn't have...right? Come on, take the bait ?
  18. Just a question...Who would your 8 be?
  19. Lol shoulda posted this in the rule change thread. Make a rule to make criteria visible for Mr Football candidates lol
  20. Agreed! Targeting. And not because the call is not needed but because there is no replay during the game. Losing a key player for a week cause KHSAA is trying to protect their refs can cause you a season...just ask Mayfield
  21. Ok. As it is right now. You can't put a helmet on until July 10. Can't do any thing contact wise including bags until July 22. Can't scrimmage until after August 1st. So you take away July and the first game will be when? And if your School starts Aug 9 with the Khsaa rules you won't have enough days before school starts to even have a camp. Unless you consider helmet only practices substantial enough to properly teach blocking and tackling. Now school starts Aug 30 that would give the time needed. That's why the date matters.
