  1. Nice spin lol. Bottom line is some believe that June practices are irrelevant and some believe they are relevant. There's just as much pro for June practice as there is con. You sir just refuse to acknowledge the benefits. But the twist on my comments was hilarious, like I really laughed out loud!
  2. I never implied that you start in June my position is don't take June away from those who want the extra work. Also that June workouts can be and are beneficial to some.
  3. Really? Because camps run all the way through July. Furthermore an athlete can still work on perfecting their techniques during the weeks leading up to combines. The NFL prospects don't stop working in March either do they. No they work all the way to April and beyond to their individual senior days. So to imply that it doesn't matter for ALL athletes is asinine. Hard work beats TALENT when talent doesn't work.
  4. Every kid is different. Different levels of motivation, styles of learning, etc...Each Coach has to know his players and what is going to be needed to accomplish their goals individually and collectively as a team. A veteran team with great leadership, sure time off indeed. A young team/new coach maybe a different scenario. I just don't think one out ways the other. Whatever A coach chooses, of course be effective. Perfect practice makes perfect
  5. But they can get better. Why do you think college athletes hire professional trainers before the draft? Guess they should already have it down as well huh..
  6. I didn't say it would. But you tried to make the point that doing nothing in June is what wins championships and puts players in college. I pointed out the opposite end of the spectrum
  7. True. But depends on what your perception of benefits gained is...Could be my perception that if said team had spent a little more time on technical coaching in June then maybe you don't give up 48 pts in the state semifinals. Ijs
  8. Furthermore my position is against saying "see you in July". For some June matters.
  9. So when are these kids supposed to work on the activities requested of them at theses senior day camps and so on? I guess they just naturally know how to run a good 40, just blessed with great cover skills, born with proper throwing mechanics, gifted with ball skills...That's been my argument, some kids want the extra work.
  10. Ouch! Better be part of that 5%. Still better odds than the 1% that make it to collegiate football. I'm not saying mandate it, but don't take it away from the ones that want to.
  11. Don't know which kids some of you are talking about but the ones I'm in contact with can't wait for school to be out so that they can concentrate on their sport. I'm not going to tell the kids "no. Go take a month and half break". These kids aren't competing with the KY athletes they are competing with the Florida and southern athletes. Those athletes who train yr around. Times have changed, the game is much more competitive, kids are bigger and much faster, hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work.
  12. Come on now, comparing apples to oranges. You know like I know that collegiate off season programs are hellacious. At least 5days a week up until spring games. And that summer packet ain't no joke either. Difference is imo, if you didn't come back in shape or didn't work hard, somebody was coming for your spot and your scholarship. Not as much competition in most High School, especially with Coach mom and dad pumping there heads up. So as coaches we try to create as many opportunities for players to improve themselves given the time we have them.
  13. Really? Because I know of more than a handful of assistant coaches or other teachers in the school whom are affiliated with these traveling baseball/AAU teams, and these same schools rent out their facilities to these teams. But it's not ok for football?
  14. Why would you want to? Guys some of these kids are trying to become part of the 1% that go on to collegiate football...when do you expect these kids to get better? During season? Do some of you not know how much it costs a college for a four year athlete? About 100000$...In my opinion you don't get burnt out doing what you love to do.
  15. Yeah I don't agree with this theory because if that's the case then why are they on the team? But imo it's like the spring practice argument. Teams that have the numbers do it and teams that don't have the number don't. But I don't think freshman football is dying. After all the state is not only comprised of small school football. Especially with more rural teams considering consolidating with other schools.
  16. For larger schools we have to keep a freshman schedule. JV is for the guys that are on the borderline of being a varsity player. I'm not taking 30 extra kids to a JV game to pad the sidelines and give me a larger headache nor am I dressing these kids on Friday night. Freshman games teach these kids how to perform in game like situations with out going against kids that've been in a high school weight program for three years.
  17. This. Coming from this area, I think a better correlation would be times of war rather than political party.
  18. This. I totally agree. The collegiate athlete in me wants to point out that some great players have come from run first offenses i.e Calvin Johnson from Georgia Tech's option attack, Odell Beckham LSU power run, etc... But the father coach in me understands that only 1% of High School players go on to the next level. So I totally get the parent/fan aspect of it. Which I think is the bigger factor because if the parents don't buy in it's near impossible to get the son/players to buy in. But whatever happened to competition and bettering yourself to be one of those three guys...
  19. Do you think today's kids care more about style or winning?
  20. I understand the trickle down effect from college and doing the what's "hot" thing. I just don't buy in to the justification of all the hype that the spread is getting. Take Urban Myer, he took his wife and bought her a new dress. Same wife though, meaning, he took the single wing and dressed it up. To the tune of how many championships? I guess what I'm really asking is, Why do certain offenses get a pass? A coach/team struggles running spread, what do we hear? "Just wait till they get the players to run their system" etc...Struggle while running a less sexier system and it's "out dated" "uncreative" "holding players back" etc... I compare it to being married to the perfect wife who does everything you could ever imagine, then trading her in for the trophy wife that does absolutely nothing but look better! Lol, to each his own, I guess.
  21. Should style of play matter? A win is a win and a loss is a loss no matter what style a team uses. Hate to sound so cliche, but it's just that simple in my opinion. With that being said it seems to be a push for more open offenses. I don't understand why there is such a love for difference. "Just work hard and be good at what you do" is what I've always been taught. Regardless of how good a team is I often hear and see confusing comments about style of play. Take X outta Louisville for example. After losing to BG there was an outcry for change, but they ended up finishing very well. Just curious to why the love for open/spread offenses and the hate for old smash mouth football?
  22. A wise man once said "3 things can happen when you throw the ball, and two of em are bad" lol. I too am pulling for Coach Duncan, hope it turns out well.
  23. Can't wait to see this'll d perform again this season. Truly believe thecolonels will go as far as his arm takes them
  24. The shot of the win loss record vs teams is accurate tho. I know for a fact that the loss to Valley at sub state was a forfeit.
