We currently have 10 games in 11 weeks with the seasons starting late August.

Should KHSAA up the number of games allowed from 10 to 12 and start the season at the beginning of August?

No, I'd rather cut the regular season back one week and start the playoffs a week earlier, with championship weekend being Thanksgiving.

Give teams an option of 10 games and no off week or 9 games with a week off during the season.

If a team makes a championship run that's 15 games. That's more then enough.

I'd agree with this except for one thing; to hell with playing on Thanksgiving. It's been the first weekend of December for almost the last 30 years, and one of those years was the 2nd week of December (2007).

If anything, back up the start date one week. I'm all for hot weather; as a matter of fact..I ride around without the AC most all of the summer in my truck, but playing more than half of the regular season before October 1st never has, nor ever will seem right.

With player safety being a concern, this will never happen.

I would say start the season one week sooner, and have teams with a second open week. I think a lot of players and coaches would benefit from that second free week to get healthy and rested.

The Season starts way too early as it is. And what benefit would playing two extra games provide and starting the season that early provide?? No reason to start practice before August 1st, no reason to play before labor day. Cut a week off the playoffs, get rid of the bye. Solves the problem everybody has with nearly everyone making the playoffs, gives families July back for vacation, and still ends the season at the same time.

Preach.

Wait, you mean follow along the lines of what the NFL and college does in terms of 'round abouts' start dates for practice and games?

What a novel idea.

That works if you want athletes to be specialized sports players and no athletes playing multiple sports.

Btw why cant players take vacation from time school gets out in june till july 9th?

How does that affect players who play multiple sports?? I'm only chopping time from the start of the season, not adding to the end (I'm getting rid of the bye and a round of playoffs). For what it's worth, there are more than a few states thatst follow this type of schedule.

As far as vacations, many teams (if not just about all) have practice from the end of school up to the dead period, with the dead period being the only "free" time for fall athletes.

I am fine with the way the season is currently set up. If they were to shorten the playoffs by one week I would be in favor of an 11th regular season game

What is the difference between the 2nd and 3rd options in the poll? Seems to me to be the same answer to the question.

What you are forgetting is the fact that school starts earlier...Colleges bring their players in before school starts. NFL doesn't have to worry about anything because it's your job lol. How much time do you think coaches need to teach fundamentals and tackling? You can't even put pads on till what, two weeks before school starts and even then you have to have so many days in helmets, and so many days in shells before you can fully suit up. You're talking about going into a game trying to get everything in within the little two hour frame after school? Not to mention the mental exhaust of the kids having to start school...asking for trouble and injuries with some bad football to boot.

I didn't bring up college or the NFL. As I said before, there are more than a few states that have a similar schedule to what I proposed. As far as practice time, I'm only talking about cutting 2 1/2 weeks off the schedule at the front end. And teams have spring ball and almost the whole month of June to teach fundamentals as well. I'm not sure an August 1 start date vs a mid July start date would subject kids to any more mental exhaust. That's still 3 weeks before most schools actually go into session.

Some schools start as early as the second week in August. So no you don't have three weeks. It get the idea but it's not feasible I'm my humble opinion. What would end up happening is you would lose the week 0 and week one games or you'd have to push the start day back causing games to be played later in DEC. Then that dreaded fall break/bye week gets really tricky as well. I'd like to see the other states that you've mentioned average school start date vs. Kentucky. Because when School used to start towards the later part of August early September, I'd be on par with this suggestion
