  1. They didn't shoot like they did against WV a few weeks ago, that's for sure. But they still managed to hit quite a few. I guess it's fair to say Galltin lives and dies by the 3.
  2. Awesome game and finish. One of Gallatin's starters was out with a back injury and Hale didnt play most of the 4th quarter so take that for what it's worth. The refs let them play, that's for sure. I though S.O. was going to run away with it early but Gallatin kept battling and came out the 2nd half like a different team. Like I've said, I wouldn't bet on Gallatin to win the 8th region but I sure wouldn't bet against them either. Their team can get extremely hot from 3 (especially Rassman and their soph. Coomer) and beat anyone on a given night. Solid pg play, a big, and guys that can shoot is a dangerous combo. Young from S.O. was getting beat up all night and was frustrated but he's a very nice player.
  3. My thoughts on this game were, Niece came out during warm ups and didn't miss but one shot from the outside that I saw and I thought, ok....this kid is the truth, he's about to light it up. OC out arguably their best player in Jackson (idk how long he is out). SK gonna win this game by 10+ from the looks of the pregame. OC came out in their press and SK could not handle it. OC played with more energy and desire the entire game. Crashing the boards against a taller, bigger team. Turnovers and second chance points doomed SK tonight. If they can get that fixed SK wins by that 10 pt margin in a month @ the Roy. But with Jackson for OC the Colonels win by 17-18 pts. So I guess it could go either way. Niece is a nice player, just has some things to figure out defensively and how to control a game. He didn't get many clean looks from the outside but took it into the D a couple times and looked good. I was most impressed with the SK pg, (Kitchell maybe? ??). I left feeling like SK has the better potential but OC made them play their style of ball tonight and controlled the entire game, I felt like. SK was very rushed.
  4. With girls sectionals going on tonight in Indiana I will be @ this one. Been wanting to see both teams all yr.
  5. This was an absolute track meet. 2 teams loaded with athletes taking it to the rim every chance they could get and the refs letting the kids play (as they usually do in the city). I personally enjoy the game alot more when there's not a call every time down the floor, which there certainly could have been. I thought Fern Creek looked extra hype before the game and thry came out holding a 4-6 pt lead the whole 1st half. Ballard just hung around enough to make a run. 5 points was nothing in this game because either team could make that up within a minute or less. Just a well played, fun game to watch as a fan. Ballard's program continues to be the standard yr in and yr out. A top 10 team almost every yr. is impressive. I thought Price, Wales, and Witcliff were all nice, had solid games, but have probably played better. Fern Creek had a couple opportunities to tie with a 3 with around 15-20 seconds left but missed them both. This was a game where you could limit the X's and O's as a coach and just let the kids make plays and be ball players. This was "city ball" @ it's finest.
  6. Wow, the 8th is hard to figure out. Whoever gets hot at the right time will take it. Any one of 6 or 7 teams can come out of Henry Co. in about 5 weeks
  7. As someone from Indiana I would beg and plead against this. We have 4 classes and the first yrs of class basketball we had all 4 champions play in a Tournament of Champions and IT WAS TERRIBLE. We had the best tourney in the country, now admittedly that distinction belongs to the Sweet 16 in Kentucky.
  8. Walton will not want to see them for a third time come March. If they can get the big boy, Hale to be a threat on the inside and some more confidence, GC will surprise someone over @ Henry Co. in about 6 weeks.
  9. Appreciate it. It was one heck of a game. My first Kentucky game of the yr and probably the best game of the yr so far. I decided you put Stanley on any of the top 5 teams in the 8th and they immediately become the favorites. Idk if that's his regular night but if it is I can't imagine anyone in the 8th better. Before the game I see GC shooting arounds and think, WV by 15+. But give Jones and the Cats credit. They can play with and beat anyone in the 8th on a given night. Maybe they don't normally shoot like they did tonight but without Stanley on fire for WV, Gallatin wins going away. They seem to develop guys out of nowhere from yr to yr. The big boy, Hale and soph. Coomer will be a handful next yr if they continue to improve.
  10. WV wins by 4. Galltin had a shot to win but it spun in and out. WV goes to the 1 and 1 but GC doesn't block out and WV gets the rebound and the 2 free throws. Ballgame. Someone with stats has to give the offical score but Stanley had to have 35, maybe 40 out of their 64
  11. WV up 62-60 with 37 seconds left. Haven't seen 2 teams shoot it from deep this good in a while
  12. Neither team can miss. WV up 2 with 4 minutes left. If Stanley has missed any shots I don't remember it.
  13. Stanley can't miss. At least 16 pts that quarter. And pulls an Iverson step over a guy after a made 3. WV up 49-47 going into the 4th
  14. Stanley comes out hot hitting three straight 3's. He has 11 in the quarter. If it weren't for him WV would be down big. GC up 1
  15. Halftime here @ Owen Co. Gallatin Co. up 32- 27 on WV. GC hitting almost everything they throw up. They've got a nice team. Winning the 8th in March would be a stretch but certainly can compete with most anyone in the region. Good coaching job after losing their best player last yr., Mason Wilson. Idk what grade their big kid, Hale is in but if he's an underclassmen he could be nice with some development.
  16. Walton v Gallatin Co. tonight @ Owen for the All A. Anyone willing to give GC a shot in this one? I will be there. First Kentucky game of the yr. bcos of my own coaching obligations and basketball games across the river. Really looking forward to it. I'm going to really try and follow the 8th the rest of the way since our season is over in 2 weeks. It seems to be a good season with about 4 or 5 possible winners coming out of the 8th. So far been following along with this site and thanks to the awesome write ups!
  17. Does anyone know about the 8th all A final tom. night between Gallatin Co. and Walton Verona?
  18. Wow, I really hate to hear that. I was planning on checking him and WV out next week @ the All A tourney in Owen Co. Does this make OC the clear favorites in the 8th come March?
  19. 8th region seems to be heating up and teams are beginning to hit their stride. Collins with some good W's, Walton playing extremely well @ the KOB, OC undefeated, SK and SC with key freshmen leading the way, and I still believe A.C. will be there competing with the top dogs comes March. And Gall. Co. 9-2? ?? I didn't see that coming after losing their leading scorer from last yr. It's not just a 2 team race, it's 6- 7 team sprint to the finish. I wish there were more time to see everyone play. Unfortunately I have a hard time finding the time with teaching, coaching duties, and basketball on the other side of the river. I won't miss Henry Co. this March come tourney time. One of the most competitive I remember.
  20. Good experience for WV. They'll be right where they need to come March @ Henry Co. Also, is Ballard ever not good? What a program!
  21. Wow, this is definitely a surprise. Some people had Collins winning the region (and they still may, long season to go). Gallatin Co. has a good program going over there. I didn't expect as good a team without Mason Wilson who graduated but their younger kids must have stepped up and really improved. I will be there Tuesday night when Walton Verona comes to visit. Can't wait to see what both teams have, maybe a better game than I originally thought.
  22. To me it looks like Trinity goes the distance in the top half of the bracket while Fern Creek and Cov. Cath will meet in an epic semifinal game. I'm gonna go with Trinity and Fern Creek in the finals. Of course I know nothing about the out of state teams but I'm sure they're no scrubs. I'll be pulling for the 8th teams as my adopted region but teams like Fern Creek, Trinity, Cov. Cath I think are just on a whole other level.
  23. 1st Region: McCracken County 2nd Region: Hopkinsville 3rd Region: Owensboro Catholic 4th Region: Bowling Green 5th Region: John Hardin 6th Region: Fern Creek 7th Region: Trinity 8th Region: Anderson Co. 9th Region: Covington Catholic 10th Region: George Rogers Clark 11th Region: Scott County 12th Region: Mercer County 13th Region: Corbin 14th Region: Knott County Central 15th Region: Johnson Central 16th Region: Boyd County Champ game: Trinity vs. Cov. Cath 2018 Champ: Trinity
  24. Probably right, they've had a down 2-3 yrs but great basketball tradition there and history. They could use a good freshman.
