While anyone in the diocese can go to any high school without paying additional there are still traditional feeder schools. Other high schools are not allowed to actively pursue these students. NDA and CCH have by far the biggest feeder system with St. Pius, Blessed Sacrament, St. Agnes and St. Joe’s crescent Springs. I don’t think anyone else is even close. I would guess the low numbers are multifactorial. First volleyball and soccer are killing girls basketball. Second, their sophomore class is loaded. If I was a freshman seeing 10 to 15 kids ahead of me unless I was a superstar I wouldn’t have a chance to play varsity until my senior year. It might discourage me from playing and encourage me to find another activity or sport I enjoy.

The semi finals and finals of the girls JV tournament were today . In the first semifinal Cooper beat Campbell. In the second Holy Cross beat NDA. Cooper beat HC in the finals. HC was winning at the end of the first quarter then Cooper took a three point lead at the half and gradually stretched it out over the second half blowing it open the end of the fourth quarter. No all tournament team for either the JV or freshman tournament which I thought was strange but there were co MVPs Haylle Noel and Zene Thompson. They were some fun games to watch. I would have liked to have seen my Indians win but they ran out of gas and Cooper is a tough team. Congrats

It’s a novelty for sure. It’s actually a boy girl double header. The first time the girls are back on the court for a game since the All A so from college court to tiny gym. We have four charter buses driving up for the HC teams and fans. There are still some seats on the buses left. It should be fun. And it’s just under two hours.

As someone who is it familiar with most of the regions outside of NKY I find this very interesting. Most regions (10/16) actually have a team in the top 16 and another 5 have one in the next ten. There is really only one region that is going to get a team in the sweet 16 that isn’t in the top 26 and yeah they are pretty far down there, but otherwise no outliers. Of course all the other top 16 that will be left out will be from just two regions the 9th with five top 16 and 7th with three. I am obviously biased but it is looking like it will be just as hard to win the ninth as it will be to win the sweet 16 as long as they draw opposite SHA.

You bring up some valid points with it being easier to be successful with a super star. Sorrell is also doing it with two starters that did not even play basketball last year and a 6-7th man that transferred in Dreas hasn’t played since he was an 8th grader. While his senior role players last year weren’t allstars they were still two starters and the first three subs, so he had a great core to build around but had to fill in the pieces and teach three new kids his system. You can’t really punish a coach because he has a superstar. Last year he picked up the pieces of a program that had run off several kids leaving no depth and those kids came back to play for him. That says something and should be enough to put him in the conversation.

I guess it depends how you look at the award. Who was most valuable to their team? Easy without Meyer HC doesn’t even make it past regionals much less the state finals . Evangel had much more even scoring, but personally I think it should go to someone from the winning team.

It was a great game. I thought Evangel was pulling away and the Indians fought back. It seemed like Evangel missed a lot of free throws at the end which helped. When Meyer drove with just a few seconds left I thought for sure it was going in and sending it to OT. What was interesting was that everyone thought it was over but the ref had called a foul on HC with one second left. Great heads up play by Ambrosio to keep the game alive and then when Evangel only made one of two the Indians had a chance to tie it with a long three but the inbounds pass from Ambrosio to Smith was a little high. It would have been an over half court shot but they still at least had a chance. Nice run by the Indians. So close to the sweep.

From the scoreboard, Ryle and NCC were cancelled. I know the girls were looking forward to playing Ryle, but it makes sense to cancel that one given the timing. The four games left are Walton which is being played at the gym Hoosiers was shot it on Sat, Brossart (senior night), Louisville Mercy and end the season at SK.

The Indians got the lead to ten in the third quarter and Bethlehem made a good comeback in the fourth cutting it as low as three I believe but the Indians once again hit their free throws in the end. All tournament team for Holy Cross Bottom, Arlinghaus, Lewis and MVP Hunt.

I just reviewed the All A site. There has never been a sweep but there have been five times when boys and girls have both made finals prior to this year Murray 2016 NCC 2013 Lex Cath 1997, 1995, 1992

Final. Holy Cross will have a girl boy double header tomorrow.

The Indians advance to the finals. I don’t have the stats but Pikeville shot poorly the first half scoring only 11 points. They didn’t get their first field goal in the second half until about 2:30 left in the third quarter. They started to hit some threes but the Indians hit their free throws to seal the game and hold off a comeback.

I am not sure how jump balls are factored in to turnovers or if they are but I was told by someone listening on the radio that they said there were 27 jump balls. I completely believe that number. I have never seen anything like it. Most of them were in Owen county's backcourt. The full court defense by HC was tough. Owen country struggled to get any sort of half court offense set up.

I think the depth of the the Indians really made the difference in the game, They trapped and were able to double team the ball the entire game. From the stats Owen only really played six with four girls basically playing the entire game. They played hard and just ran out of steam. HC also was able to do this with Hunt sitting most of the game in foul trouble. Next up Pikeville in the semi finals

The Indians went 10 deep and kept up the pressure. They were able to pull away in the second half. I would love to know the record for most tie ups there had to have been at least 20

The Indians came out with a ton of energy pressing and pressuring the ball ending the first quarter 22-4. They went a solid 10 deep on the bench to keep up the energy. They shot the three significantly better than their season avg. I had heard about 63% but don’t have the official stats. Next up the winner of Owen County Berea at 830 am Friday.

At least the boys didn’t get the 930 pm game like last year. That turnaround time was rough and the girls only played at 10. I am sure they will be excited enough it doesn’t matter, but if they win they play at 830 on Friday then 830 Sat that kind of takes a little fun out of the trip, but better to play at 830 than not at all.

I agree. I think it was a dumb call. I didn’t mean the call was meaningless. I meant the game itself was meaningless. It’s a seeding game to decide who plays Beechwood and who plays Holmes. Those teams should be easily handled by HC and NDA. Assuming it plays out like that the district championship game should be awesome.

I think in most games they don’t call that last technical on Lawrie. I am guessing it was so chippy they wanted to maintain control but it didn’t involve any interactions with HC so I don’t know. I love Maya she is not one of “those kids”. In reality it was a meaningless game other than a confidence builder for the Indians. It was hard fought and intense. The JV Indians also won. Apparently that was the first loss for NDA. Rematches are in the near future and should be great.

Very chippy game for sure, but fun to watch. When HC started to press and play more intense defense they started to pull away. (Well not really pull away but for a low tempo game they did)
