Covington Holy Cross 37 Notre Dame 29

Very chippy game for sure, but fun to watch.  When HC started to press and play more intense defense they started to pull away. (Well not really pull away but for a low tempo game they did)

Congratulations to the Indians on a hard fought game. Well deserved.

Enjoyed the Holy Cross Radio stream.

Good play tonight by Aaliyah Hayes and Aleah Arlinghaus of Holy Cross.

Chippy for sure.

4 technical fouls. 3 against NDA. Hmmm.  The last one was a head scratcher…in a tight game.   Overheard the ref tell coaching staff that she was T’d up because “she was jumping up and down and looking at him?”  Wow.

Pandas struggled against the pressure and need to find another way to score without Noelle. Hubert face guarded entire game. Defender probably followed her to the bathroom after the game.

Good luck Holy Cross down at the all A

Yes chippy is a word to describe it. Pretty sure that’s gonna be one of very, very few girls high school games in the state where there are 4 technical fouls called:( (3 on NDA .) Neither team played particularly well, but Holy Cross was definitely more off than the Pandas and still got the win. Congrats to the Indians, a group of good girls that play hard. Well deserved victory. The pandas will continue to need to figure out the last 16 minutes of the game.

I think in most games they don’t call that last technical on Lawrie.  I am guessing it was so chippy they wanted to maintain control but it didn’t involve any interactions with HC so I don’t know.  I love Maya she is not one of “those kids”.  In reality it was a meaningless game other than a confidence builder for the Indians.  It was hard fought and intense.  The JV Indians also won.  Apparently that was the first loss for NDA.  Rematches are  in the near future and should be great.

Did it cost the Pandas the game no, so by definition not meaningful, was it a totally ridiculous call, absolutely. It was a four point game at the time, deciding to attempt to control the game by making that call in a four point game with a minute left is simply TERRIBLE. Again NDA couldn’t score so hard ti win if you can’t score, but to call that T, in that situation, much worse than headscratching. Totally agree with the rest of your post and look forward to the future rematch!

I agree. I think it was a dumb call. I didn’t mean the call was meaningless. I meant the game itself was meaningless. It’s a seeding  game to decide who plays Beechwood and who plays Holmes. Those teams should be easily handled by HC and NDA.  Assuming it plays out like that the district championship game should be awesome.

I was once told be an official that if a team gets three technical fouls that the coach has to be ejected. Any truth to this? I think old Cornbread from the 8th region told me this about 15 years ago.

No one was ejected last evening, I would need to consult the Khsaa/NFHS rule book on the appropriate treatment. I can attest that there are at least two full pages dedicated to technical fouls and what counts towards personals, team fouls and ejections. It is not nearly as straight forward as you would think…

There was a lot for the refs to sift through. I believe that ejection assessment must be made during the game too. Don't think player and bench techs are cumulative, and you can't penalize a coach after the fact.

Only listened to the game, and others have shared that play moved past spirited, and into the chippy zone. I'm just glad it didn't progress on to the flagrant and ejection zones.

Good kids on the floor; good folks on the sidelines. Look forward to both teams meeting again in the postseason.

I, and this is speculation mixed with a fuzzy memory, believe that if there are 3 technicals on the bench the head coach gets tossed.

Yes, 2 direct on the coach or a combination of three on the coach and bench personnel (players and coaches) results on Head coach ejection. The player technicals don’t count unless they are bench personnel.
