Brooke has been doing a great job particularly since she didn’t even play for Beechwood last year. I’m glad she came back for her senior year.

Suzette is amazing in the goal. I think we may have finally settled on the back four after trying out several combinations. Each game they are getting a little better. This was probably the closest we have come to NDA for as long as I can remember and they were playing normally not a pack it in defense.

Notre Dame comes away with the win in the district seeding game. The lone goal of the game was scored by Kate Lenihan with :56 left in the first half. It was another great game by Klaiss in the goal. HC had a hard time scoring without Hoffman up top. They are going to need to figure out a way to put the ball in the back of the net. They were 2-1 on a week with Ryle Campbell County and NDA giving up a combined one goal, so not a bad start.

Another shutout for Klaiss and the Indians. The HC goal was scored by Wood in the first half. Holy Cross had to juggle the lineup a bit due to injuries that made a short bench even shorter but they played well and held on to get the win. The Indians are now 3-1 with the district seeding game against NDA Sat.

The game is confirmed at HC. It should be a good one.

Eva G Farris Sports Complex. Varsity 10 am, JV 11:30 it was our schedule says but KHSAA scoreboard has it at NDA. hmmm. FWIW it was at NDA last year so I would think it would be at HC this year. NDA's schedule on their school site has it at HC also. Maybe it was put in the KHSAA site wrong? I will investigate.

I hope so. Each year we get a little closer. HC has a solid team. They just aren't deep. It will be on grass which will slow the game down and that will help. I anticipate a low scoring game. The Indians had to basically rebuild their defense with only one of starting back five returning from last year, but they are starting to gel. I am hoping we have everyone healthy for the game. We have had some injuries.

The Indians traveled to Union and came home with the 1-0 win. The Indians lone goal came in the second half by Senior Ivy Hoffman. There were several nice saves by both goalies. The second half was played in the rain and sometimes downpour which made particularly the last 10 minutes very sloppy. The Raiders had a PK in the first half saved by Klais and several free kicks just outside the 18 but were unable to hit the back of the neck. The Indians are now 2-1 with Campbell County on Wed.

The birds looked really good. They passed well and controlled the game. They have so many options for scoring. I wasn’t sure what to expect but was proud of the fight our girls put up. I am hoping it will give them some confidence for the rest of the season and finally get back to the ninth region tournament.

Highlands’ two goals were a first Half goal by Kate Jamie, and the second half goal by Laney Smith. The Indians had a hard time generating any offense and the ball was on their defensive side most of the game. Junior goalie Suzette Klais had an amazing game for the Indians, with double digit saves. Bella Saalfeld and Ella Lehmkuhl anchored the middle of the back line. The Indians defense fought hard under intense pressure by Highlands the entire game, but gave up two goals that were the difference. I would have to say that while a loss is a loss, HC can’t feel too bad hanging with one of the top teams in the state on day one with six new starters from last year.

Game one Holy Cross 2 Scott 0. The first half was pretty sloppy. The Indians graduated six starters from last year so are still gelling, but as the game went on got better. Junior Klais did a nice job in the goal after being JV goalie last year with minimal varsity experience. Junior Lehmkuhl, the only defensive starter left from last year, anchored the back line. Senior and leading scorer from last year Hoffman didn’t play. The Indians are going to have to up their game to hang with Highlands on Monday.

I am curious. Why is this the ideal situation for him as a first time coach?

I have heard that they were only halfway through interviews but have a couple of solid candidates. I do not have any names though.

My understanding was Detzel was done coaching and just coached freshman this year because they were in a bind. Unless feelings have changed or I was very misinformed I don’t see him coaching. Just my opinion.

The job is getting officially posted today and they hope to start interviewing May 15 per an announcement put out by the AD.

I am also excited about the coming season although I don’t want to wish the summer away. No big changes as far as I know at Holy Cross. We did graduate half our starting lineup including the goalie and three back line starters leaving only next year junior Ella Lehmkuhl on the defensive line so that’s going to be tough. I imagine there will be some movement of people in positions, but we still have some really solid returners in soon to be seniors Ivy Hoffman and the three Saalfeld cousins Addie, Bella and Jenna. It should be a fun season.

Interestingly he is the cousin (second) of girls head coach Ted Arlinghaus.

It is very interesting. I was wondering about Muck myself. I have zero insider info but I would guess Grammer is persona non grata. I mean he interviewed for outside jobs I believe every year he was there and job hops ever 1-2 years. I personally wouldn’t want any part of that circus.

I don’t know. All my info is third hand from my kids and they are on spring break now so no scuttlebutt at school.

I heard because he was on a visit to St. John.

His last year at Holy Cross was 2017-2018. I am not sure where he went after that.
