Highlands 2 Covington Holy Cross 0

Highlands’ two goals were a first Half goal by Kate Jamie, and the second half goal by Laney Smith.  The Indians had a hard time generating any offense and the ball was on their defensive side most of the game. Junior goalie Suzette Klais had an amazing game for the Indians, with double digit saves. Bella Saalfeld and Ella Lehmkuhl anchored the middle of the back line.  The Indians defense fought hard under intense pressure by Highlands the entire game, but gave up two goals that were the difference.  I would have to say that while a loss is a loss, HC can’t feel too bad hanging with one of the top teams in the state on day one with six new starters from last year.

Mad kudos to HC defensive backline and GK Klais, they were very good and didn't allow the Birds to really get good clean looks for shots.

As far as the Birds go, I thought they looked really good with possessing the ball.  They really only lacked that finishing execution in the attacking 3rd.

Excited about the season.  Good luck HC, I think this might be your year to finally join the 9th Region Tournament Party.  I know it has been disappointing with some tough loses in the 35th District Semi's the last few years.

The birds looked really good.  They passed well and controlled the game.  They have so many options for scoring.   I wasn’t sure what to expect but was proud of the fight our girls put up.  I am hoping it will give them some confidence for the rest of the season and finally get back to the ninth region tournament.
