Shout out to CCHs Brett Lampe for an OT win in the 170lb class @ Region tonight.

At the Freshman level, you still may have some dominant kids that begin to mature a little earlier. You see a lot of multi-sport stars at the Freshman level. But, with the passage of time, things even out as kids mature and the kids that prioritize basketball over football in particular, begin to distance themselves from the multi sport athletes. Looking at the 2014 CCH roster, you see some good football players that faded away. The other factor is the simple numbers game. The Freshman rosters are usually larger and then coaches pair the class down as they advance to the typically smaller rosters at the JV and Varsity level.

If he's a tall, long, lefty throwin 90+, there's a better than average chance he never sets foot on a college campus as a student-athlete.

Good points. I wonder if CCH might have to consider some position changes to fortify the o-line this year? I think the notion of CCH dominating Highlands is laughable. One robin doesn't make it spring. They may win, but it'll be a tussle. Last year was an aberration for Highlands, IMO.

I think the improvement/growth of the programs in Boone Co, along with SK has definitely hurt CCH. Call it the "Mike Woolf Effect" - there was a solid pipeline of some tough non-Catholic Boone Co dudes that followed him to Park Hills in the late 80s-early 90s. Difference makers. He was like a pied piper - of course it also helped that he had three younger brothers that were also good FB players. Not sure they're getting as many anymore - really good players with nasty streaks. I am not suggesting that CCH's success at that time was solely attributable to those kids - but they were important parts to some darn good teams.

Valid. I think Jones will be a great high school football player, but will only be a soph. No doubt there are OL questions to be answered. The JV line had a good season in 16. Let's see if that translates to the varsity level.

Agreed on Finfrock. It was good for Big Jake to compete against a true post player. Sounds like he rose to the challenge. The true 5 is a vanishing breed in basketball. Nice to see two horses go at it!

Whatever. When these two schools get together - don't care if it's tiddly winks - the games still mean A LOT to both programs...and alumni.

Regardless of expectations, out of respect for Highlands and the athletic program rivalry between these two great schools, those are three quality road wins for the Colonels. Good job boys!

Unofficially, Jake had 8 points, 13 rebs and 7 blocks. That's a good line against a pretty darn good post player.
