Russellville at Beechwood Class A Semifinal
Western_football2244 replied to LVGambla32's topic in KY Football (High School)
Only one VOR. I would say Franklin Simpson has as much or more. I'm sure you are right and they do have a lot of speed. I haven't seen beechwood at all so I would not know. But I do know Russellville can can fly. Like I said on previous post, if Russellville wants to make it to western this is there year. Beechwood is loaded with younger talent from what I've read on here and Russellville is loaded with seniors. -
Russellville at Beechwood Class A Semifinal

Agree with MHS, sadly this year, a lot of Russellville opponents had down years. In previous years, Murray and fort Campbell were much better. I figured their season would probably end this week until I went to the franklin Simpson game. They held them in check for three quarters and in my opinion, basically got wore down by the 4th. Going into that game, I figured it would be a quick W for Franklin Simpson. They didn't move the ball very good that game but I do not think there is another defense as talented as Franklin Simpson in the 1a class. Most years Russellville has problems on the defensive side of the ball, but holding a dynamic offense (if they chose to be, they could just run it down your throat if you can't stop the run) like Franklin in check for three quarters should give the panthers plenty of optimism for this week. Has beechwood played a team this year with Russellville's speed? Also, have they seen a wing T team this year? If not that is a huge advantage for Russellville. I'm sure mayfield fans remember, it is a lot more difficult facing the panthers the first time In comparison to the second. -
South Warren at Hopkinsville
Western_football2244 replied to macdon's topic in KY Football (High School)
I don't know the extent of souths injuries, but I do know their QB has had injury problems throughout the year. Theatrically, let's say a team has a starting qb, rb, lb, cb, etc. out for a extended period of time. How is that considered an excuse? Clearly you are at your best when your best players are on the field right? I'm used to keeping up with Russellville and if ONE of their key players are out, they are clearly a different team. Yes I know the difference between 1a and 4a but it relates. No excuses, Mac is right, the computers do not know. Regardless I think hop town is better then what people give them credit for. Look at their game vs county and look at the total offensive yards. Big difference and they still lose. That does not happen often when there is that big difference. Don't remember the exact numbers, but it was pretty lopsided for hop town. I would guarantee turnovers made the difference, not sure tho exactly how it played out. Defensively they have played well all season as well, they have a former Russellville coordinator and he has done a fantastic job! I'll take hop-town 28-21 -

Cannot disagree with you, very possible that it will. If Russellville doesn't make the finals this year, it will be quite sometime till they will have a chance to get back. They graduate most of their team and from what I read on here, beechwood is loaded with younger talent. -

Glad the panthers showed up for 3/4 of the game tonight. I believe the speculation about them should be silenced after tonight. May not look like it on the scoreboard but they proved a point to everybody that attended. On to the new season! Goodluck to franklin Simpson as well, you have a heck of a squad! Hope both are playing in bowling green here in a couple of weeks! -
4A #2 Franklin-Simpson at 1A #2 Russellville
Western_football2244 replied to LVGambla32's topic in KY Football (High School)
Completely agree. If the same thing happens this year I would not be surprised. What I think everyone fails to realize is that IMO any team in 1A would suffer the same fate if they were to play franklin Simpson. I will say it again, they are the real deal and don't be surprised if the score is similar to last year or worse. -

IMO franklin would beat any team in 1A by multiple touchdowns. -

This is basically the same team that gave beechwood a tough game last year. I believe they graduated 4 kids. -

That game wasn't As close as the final score indicted. Butler played from behind 2-3 td basically the whole game. No doubt number 1 in 1a if they win this game. Do I think that will happen? No, but that is why the game is played. -
The most important thing for the panthers is to focus on taking care of the football. They are playing a lot of games right now where they can score from anywhere on the field and when you run into a franklin Simpson, you will have to put drives together and protect the ball. Running the wing t, fumbling can become an issue. After protection of the football I would say keeping everyone healthy. With the amount of kids that go both ways for the panthers, if anybody goes down it could be a huge blow. Russellville for the past 10 years have fielded pretty talented teams. They never can seem to win the big game. 09 and 10 narrow loses to pudacah tilghman where they lead by double digits and lose narrowly. After that it was mayfield, had 2-3 chances to beat them and couldn't take advantage (no disrespect to mayfield, I know how good they were) Yes, they made the semi finals last year but mayfield is now gone. Beechwood looks to be feeling those shoes. Franklin Simpson is a big game in the eyes of everyone. Two 9-0 teams, how could it not be? I just hope this is the year they take advantage and win a "big game". It would be huge going into the playoffs. Last thing they need is to get blown out and go into the playoffs with that type of momentum.

I'm hoping the Russellville franklin game is a good game. Really want Russellville do win or keep it close just to get some respect. I'm worried that the panthers may get exposed on the 28th. Both teams returned the majority of their teams from last year, and we saw how that one ended.

We will find out how good Russellville is the last week of the season. Franklin Simpson will be a huge test for the Panthers and will probably be a 2-3 td favorite. If they do lose by 2td or less I would say they deserve their #1 ranking. It's sad that their schedule is as weak as it is but it also has a lot to do with teams being down. I will say this, butler county was tied at 28 with a very good Owensboro catholic team with about 8 min to go in the 4th but still lost by 2td. Time will tell.

Russellville returns 16 juniors. All will depend on their line play. -
Russellville returns 16 juniors. Lose 6 seniors, three off the line. If they can find a way to replace them, watch out beechwood...

Panthers played their hearts out. Beechwood was just the better team. Officiating was questionable on both teams to say the least. At this point in the season you would figure they could find better. Rough on the panthers not being able to throw the ball. I'm just happy it wasn't a cake walk for beechwood, they had to play their butts off to win. Congrats -
When Russellville played in 3A I remember warren east drilled them when they were really down. I believe one year that was the only game east won. If I recall correctly, Russellville went on to the region championship and gave Paducah Tilghman all they wanted and more in a very close game. Tilghman went on the win state that year. My point is previous games don't mean much at this point in the season. It's all about this week. None of the other games matter anymore. Jusy curious, has beechwood went up against any Wing T teams this year?

As of right now, 90% chance of rain Friday. It also rained the whole Murray game and the panthers put it on the ground 7 or 8 times. beechwood should be favored by at least 2 scores. Russellville will have to execute flawlessly to stay in this game. But most importantly no turnovers. Regardless as how lopsided the Murray game looked they actually moved the ball well. They must win the turnover battle. Its hard to pick Russellville because the only good teams they have played this year have won by multiple touchdowns. I'm sure coach Myers will have his boys ready. Just don't know if it will be enough.. Heart 28-27 rville Head 42-28 beechwood

Two of russellvilles main offensive weapons(bigbee, drumgole) were injured second half. Don't know how severe the injuries are but if they are very serious, Russellville's season will probably end next Friday night. Was cville much of a spread team this year? I heard on the radio that vs Bethlehem they lined up in I formation every play? Every play last night was spread. -

Fumbles killed Russellville. If they have another showing like they did tonight they won't make it to beachwood. Rain or no rain you can't put the ball on the ground against a good team and expect to win
