In other News - The Beechwood Authority gave a glowing endorsement of the Tigers tonight.

This is one of the most amazing Beechwood teams ever. They are not big in size but they play big on the field. Congratulations to the Tigers and keep it rolling one more time.

 

Also congratulations to Russellville on a great season. I was really impressed with the turn out and support they brought to the game tonight.

Congratulations to Beechwood on a very impressive win and to Russellville on a nice season. Beechwood will be a force the next few seasons. I do believe that this is the year too.

this team reminds me of the Beechwood team that shut out Harrodsburg in the state Championship. Not as big but just as good.

Just wasn't meant to be Panthers, but great season!

Honestly think playing the likes of Fulton County and Todd County when Beechwood was Playing CovCath and the like caught up with Russellville tonight. But still great year!

What a great game by Beechwood! After the first couple series, Beechwood made an adjustment on defense and that was it. Great job by the coaches and an even better job by the players getting it done. Here is the game report.

 

Q1

 

Russellville won the toss and chose to receive the opening kickoff. It looked like a good move as they tried to get on top and moved the ball downfield. A big run by Johnny Drumgole got the ball well into Beechwood territory. The Tigers toughened up and stopped Russellville on downs at the 11. Beechwood used their running game and moved across midfield before being forced into a punt at the 33. The punt went into the end zone so Russellville started at their own 20.

 

Q2

 

Russellville was forced into the punt and Beechwood had the ball at the 39. That is when lightning struck as QB Brayden Burch hit Daniel Mescher across the middle and Mescher shocked Russellville with his speed, outrunning the Panthers for a 61 yard one play TD drive and score. Mescher added the XP and Beechwood led 7-0 with 6:32 to go in the half. The Tigers were figuring out Russellville's single wing offense and forced another punt which Beechwood returned to the Russellville 40. Beechwood used that field position to march in for another score with 2:14 left in the half. Aiden Justice powered his way in from 10 yards out, Mescher XP, 14-0. A 3 and out by Russellville got us to halftime.

 

Q3

 

Beechwood received the second half kick and lightning struck again. This time James Davis took the kick at his own 10, blazed through a seam, ran right through the Russellville safety valve at midfield and then out raced the Panther pursuit for an impressive 90 yard kickoff return TD. One play into the second half, Mescher's XP made it 21-0. Russellville needed to make something happen but after one first down they were forced to punt. The Panther defense stepped up and did the same to Beechwood. On the first play of the next possession one of the state leaders in interceptions, Beechwood's Elijah McKinney, did it again and returned the INT down to the 22. A few plays later, QB Burch hit Justice on a bubble screen that went for a 14 yard TD, Mescher XP, 28-0 with 5:59 left. Next came the backbreaker. Russellville fumbled the kickoff and Beechwood recovered at the 28. The Tigers capitalized again with Trevor Soward running it in from 1 yard out with 1:14 to go. Mescher's XP making it 35-0.

 

Q4

 

From this point on, Russellville struggled to find the energy needed for the comeback. They were not able to get the big plays they needed. The teams traded a couple turnovers and Russellville's final attempt to avoid a shutout was stopped when Hank Birindelli intercepted a long pass in the end zone.

 

Final Score: Beechwood 35 Russellville 0

Congrats to beechwood. I figured it would be a close game with the winner being unknown. Beechwood was having none of that's congrats go and go win state.

That James Davis kickoff return was something else. Very impressive.
