What if there was a playoff between all 6 class winners?
Hatz replied to ACfan4's topic in KY Football (High School)
I think they play this year don't they? -
Didn't know where to put this but chose this thread, even thought it is applicable to discussion in the other thread as well. Since the MLK and Peaceful Protest discussion was brought out, I went back to re-examine some of those events. MLK's most famous written work may well be his "Letters From a Birmingham Jail." But there was another letter before that. Written by 8 White Clergy in Birmingham that pleaded with MLK to stop the protests and be patient. It read: April 12, 1963 We the undersigned clergymen are among those who, in January, issued "An Appeal for Law and Order and Common Sense," in dealing with racial problems in Alabama. We expressed understanding that honest convictions in racial matters could properly be pursued in the courts, but urged that decisions of those courts should in the meantime be peacefully obeyed. Since that time there had been some evidence of increased forbearance and a willingness to face facts. Responsible citizens have undertaken to work on various problems which cause racial friction and unrest. In Birmingham, recent public events have given indication that we all have opportunity for a new constructive and realistic approach to racial problems. However, we are now confronted by a series of demonstrations by some of our Negro citizens, directed and led in part by outsiders. We recognize the natural impatience of people who feel that their hopes are slow in being realized. But we are convinced that these demonstrations are unwise and untimely. We agree rather with certain local Negro leadership which has called for honest and open negotiation of racial issues in our area. And we believe this kind of facing of issues can best be accomplished by citizens of our own metropolitan area, white and Negro, meeting with their knowledge and experience of the local situation. All of us need to face that responsibility and find proper channels for its accomplishment. Just as we formerly pointed out that "hatred and violence have no sanction in our religious and political traditions," we also point out that such actions as incite to hatred and violence, however technically peaceful those actions may be, have not contributed to the resolution of our local problems. We do not believe that these days of new hope are days when extreme measures are justified in Birmingham. We commend the community as a whole, and the local news media and law enforcement in particular, on the calm manner in which these demonstrations have been handled. We urge the public to continue to show restraint should the demonstrations continue, and the law enforcement official to remain calm and continue to protect our city from violence. We further strongly urge our own Negro community to withdraw support from these demonstrations, and to unite locally in working peacefully for a better Birmingham. When rights are consistently denied, a cause should be pressed in the courts and in negotiations among local leaders, and not in the streets. We appeal to both our white and Negro citizenry to observe the principles of law and order and common sense. M.L.King: 1963 Public statement by 8 Alabama clergymen Any similarities in the arguments of 53 years ago and today?

Worst regular season record to win a title??
Hatz replied to backinblack2000's topic in KY Football (High School)
Until 1982 Boyle and Somerset were in the same District and Corbin and Middlesboro comprised the other District. That annual matchup was a "Winner take all" game. Boyle still had Garrard and Russell County and for a while Casey County in their District. -

It was a rainy night in Danville. Just a rainy night in Danville. Lord it must be raining all over this world. :thumb: -
No. Same reason the wishbone can't work in the NFL. Too much talent in the NFL.

Lincoln County's struggle in the past 9 years

Add Wooldridge to that list. He commanded the Pats from '78 to '82 I believe. He had outstanding teams that won their District and played in the AAA playoffs. -
4A #9 Mercer County at 4A #3 Wayne County

Worst regular season record to win a title??
Hatz replied to backinblack2000's topic in KY Football (High School)
Correct. Everything fell into place for the Hounds that season. Boyle upset Somerset. Hounds got hot and beat the Rebels in Corbin and I think won the next one at home as well before playing their kind of ball in the final and claiming the title. That Somerset team was always the best Bunny team I ever saw on a field. 10-1 and not able to go to the playoffs. Kind of like Boyle in '79. 9-1 and unable to go either because of one bad game. -
Lincoln County's struggle in the past 9 years
Hatz replied to ckyfootball's topic in KY Football (High School)
Can the downfall be related to the rise of the one sport athlete? In our era Lincoln had great football players who were excellent basketball players as well. If one sport encourages kids to not play other sports, that has to hurt. -
If you win, can you buy some athletic tape for me; I'm running low. :lol2:

Longest Streaks without a Losing Season
Hatz replied to Voice of Reason's topic in KY Football (High School)
That might be where I recall the discussion. 2009 was only the second losing season in their history. I will try to look for some evidence on the web. -

I can't lay my hands on the site to back me up but I do recall that Danville has had only one losing season in their HISTORY. 1979 I believe. -

Danville at Boyle County predictions

I can't recall how old the Leffew's were. I'm certain they started as Sophomores but can't recall if they did as freshmen. Tamme started as a Sophomore but not as a Freshman. (But Jacob suffered a broken leg about game 4 in the season and never played again that year. Imagine the 2000 team with Tamme added to that roster. ) -
Kaepernick is asking for justice, not peace
Hatz replied to gametime's topic in Controversial Issues
Actually I kind of do. Kneeling is a sign of honor and contrition. Not sure that was what Colin had in mind but to kneel takes much more effort than sitting does. -
Actually may have had a few more than you are thinking. Bobby Leffew Travis Leffew Jacob Tamme Taylor Begley Ned Jennings kicking at TCU Brodie Overstreet at Wake Forest (Who had a great freshman year until he had an eye injury that ended his playing career) But as has already been stated: He didn't have 4 NFL players on the rosters.

Danville at Boyle County predictions
Hatz replied to WestDanville's topic in KY Football (High School)
Danville won 19 straight from 1980 to 1996. Since then Boyle has dominated the series 15-5 I believe. The greatest stretch of parity was 1975 to 1979 when the visiting team won every year and Boyle took 3 out of 5. During the 19 game Admiral streak the years 1981 to 1984 were closely contested but from 1985 til 1995 the games were never close. -
He never had four NFL players at Boyle.
