JTRU had serious m issue with my order of the top 10-15 girls in the 9th region. I was comfortable with us having differing opinions about who the best players were, but he was insulting about my outlandish opinion that there were 4-5 girls I had ahead of Davenport and Johnson (and Held). The state POY list is on the 10th region Bailey Cummins winner thread.

Can't believe Campbell got dissed here. Campbell and Mason are indisputably the best teams with the best players. Jolly and Clos have lead this team and they squeak in on 2nd and 3rd team? Scott has TWO first team? Kramer was out when we played Scott, is this punishment for the loss? Or even worse Montgomery County has TWO girls ahead of the CC girls! And MoCo is terrible, CC destroyed them because our girls are better. Something went wrong in this voting, coaches must feel like they have to spread out their votes. It's disappointing that Clos was so low and Schwarber left off. Shouldn't have happened

Senior only award or not I would give it to Wilson. If you were picking a team out of the 10th region players in a draft, I would pick Wilson first, and I think most people would. What he brings is less common than the Ohmer and Crawford types. Senior or not, hers my list - Wilson Williams Ohmer A.Crawford Allen

Lots of discussion since I was here last, wow! Is the Igo commenter serious? I have seen her play, and no way she's a star/top player on Bracken, Mason or Campbell. She's a good player, but her stats are a product of everything being run offensively through her. Her percentages are all below average - 25% 3pt, 42% fg, 66% ft. And 3.7 rebounds per game? She's a great player for 8th grader, but having D1 interest isn't D1 offers. Let's see what she's doing in 2020 and leave it at that. As far as Johnson and Davenpirt, I don't care enough to look into the 9th region details. Please don't read into comments, I never said they wouldn't start for CC or MC. Just wouldn't be the top player. I have seen all the girls discussed play (school and aau). I'm entitled to my opinion and there are girls I believe to be better all around players. I will concede RCC9's points on Johnson, it was a good argument, i possibly saw bad games she had. However I don't agree fully with his overall assessment compared to others. I would take a few more girls over Johnson still (Harris, Lange, Schwartz, Saner) than his list has (but I wouldn't take Held). But overall I agree Johnson should be in the discussion for POY, looks like I have six girls I like better. I realize this might change our discussion, but I see the POY award fully as the best player in the region, not the most valuable to their team. Davenport is a good player but IMHO she is not as good as the other players I listed. Adler is a better shooter. Leigh is a better rebounder. And those two are better more than the better PG type play Davenport brings, in my opinion. Ansley is a great player, she would be in my top 20 players in the whole 9th region, just not my top 10. I've seen her play plenty, it's just my opinion. If the 10th allowed all ages to get the POY award I would have T.Clos, Frodge and O'Mara in the running. But with seniors only my list I see Bailey as the front runner - Cummins Jolly Schulz Kramer

I would of course disagree with your assessment. Not sure why you bring up stats, that's really the whole point. Putting up great stats against bad teams doesn't prove anything really. What are Johnsons AAU stats? Doesn't she play in that with other top players? Is she the top player on those teams? What colleges have offered her? What have been her stat lines against Holmes, Ryle, Highlands and NDA? Your welcome to your opinion but IMHO she is not a top player on any of the best 9th region teams, and certainly not on MC or Campbell. And yes I have seen her and others play. Again, as I've said, great player, I'm sure a great kid. Wish her best success. And she deserves to be in the conversation for POY, but IMO others are better. I appreciate your opinion of these players. But IMHO if I were picking a team I would take the following girls over those two - Harris T. McClendon L.johnson Schwartz Lange Jump Leigh Adler J.martin Saner D.mclendon I've seen all these girls play over multiple seasons including AAU ball (which I think separates out players better because it's an equal playing field). College interest level would agree with me on this list also. Because these 11 girls play on better school teams against better competition shouldn't mean they don't get POY honors, it should go to the best all-around player. Just to be super clear, I think Davenport and Johnson are excellent players and surely great kids. There's just 11 other 9th region players is rather have on my team before them. In keeping with the 10th - forgot it was a senior only thing. In that case Bailey Cummins is a front runner because she's possibly the best player in her grade. Schulz, Kramer and Jolly should be considered as well, but Bailey is likely a better overall player than those three. Why is naming names here bad? If my daughter was mentioned in a POY thread (even if people were saying why she shouldn't get the award) I'd think she would be honored.

If statistics were how the POY awards were given out then Whitney Creech would be given the Naismith (POY for the US) award hands down. But she's not good enough to play at a top 20 college... When Bracken faces top competition Baileys stats are limited, percentages are lower (these type of players just shoot more than anyone else). The Beechwood girl has the same thing happen. I think the 9th has it worse. The top players on NCC and Beechwood are not nearly as good players as the top players on Holmes, Ryle, Highlands and NDA's teams.

Wow, could not disagree more. Even in our own region we have a Creech vs Boley type thing... There's a reason that most MVP's (NFL,NBA,etc) are given out to players from the teams that win championships. When a girl plays on a team that doesn't have a strong supporting cast, and plays weaker competition (Creech) doesn't make her better than other players who lead their teams to higher success (Boley). Not only will Boley easily win Miss Basketball KY, but could win the top player in the US award, because people recognize she's a better overall player than Creech. This same thinking should hold true in the region too, yes? At this point Bracken probably won't even make it out of the district and you want to give the regional POY to their best player. I've seen the Beechwood girl mentioned in other threads for the 9th POY, the same should be true there also. Consider the Igo girl at MoCo, she's averaging almost 20pts a game , why wouldn't she be in the convo? When a girl is relied upon so heavily like these girls mentioned they are certainly their TEAM MVP, but regionally, no way. Certainly Bailey should be in the conversation cause she is a great player. But what Frodge/O'Mara or Clos/Jolly do for their teams to have great success is valuable because their teams are better. I don't have a problem with Bailey being one of the candidates and I think she should, but to dismiss all others is silliness and undermines your credibility to speak/argue fairly for the best player in 10th this year.

Id be curious to know how Creech does in aau ball? Assuming she's playing against equally talented players around the state, how does she do? Does she still score a lot? Does she standout on the court when others her age and skill level are playing with/against her?

Going to have to fully agree with this. Something is seriously off with this ranking system to not have MC in the top 20. They were a final four team last year and lost no one. Not sure how this is compiled but that doesn't make any sense.

Very true. Ohmer is a really good player no doubt, but in the end it takes five.

I see others have already called out the silliness here, but c'mon - clearly your upset with the coach about something, and I doubt it's that you just love the Camel community and hope the best for all the students. They've had an up and down season but they are trending up and will likely win the 10th AGAIN. Your quote above literally acts like CC is unsuccessful because they lost to CovCath... The defending state champs... Really? Some of the top teams in the COUNTRY are smaller schools. A couple stud players choose a small school and you suddenly have a state contender. Everyone who watches basketball knows this.

Great win for the Camels! CC is rounding into form at the perfect time. The way the season started too many people were writing them off. Now they've clearly shown they belong in the conversation for a top team in the state. They have the upward trend going into tournament and hopefully will represent the 10th at state!

KHSAA site shows a Conner freshman with 114 three point attempts so far... That seems like a lot. Especially when she only makes 30% of them. If they are teaching that kind of style to average shooting freshman I think the next four years at Conner will only be much of the same thing.

Could have been tough team there, but will still have a lot of young talent. Maybe the Thomas girl will decide to come back to SK? If she's only 7th she still has 2 years to think about it. Didn't know the details you listed, think I just figured all the SK girls were Twenhoeffel girls, forgot there's multiple feeders and they can pick high schools.

Don't think we should over analyze too much on the Campbell side. The team has been building, growing, adapting and improving all season. They will likely have a few more losses before tournament. But the trajectory the team is on is great. A loss here would not derail months of progress especially given the rivalry and such. With that said, I totally expect Camels to win. By 15-20. They are playing well and getting it done together.
