I would "take a guess" and disagree with this (bolded) sentence. The crowd at the CCH Vs Cooper Region 9 semi final on Thursday evening attracted a large crowd. And the Region 9 finals on a very wet, very windy Saturday late afternoon had about the same size (large) crowd. Don't know the attendance of the CCH Vs Trinity State Qt final last night, but it was a good size crowd. And take into effect both teams' supporters had to travel an hour+, admission was $10, and it was Halloween night. For whatever it is worth many feel a strong bond to the kiddies and staying home to make sure they get their fair share of treats. My "guess" all 3 of these soccer games mentioned above had a larger crowd then the HHS Vs CC freshman football game. I do agree the local press coverage of HS sports is embarrassing, but then again their coverage of all news is embarrassing, so they are at least consistent.

YC thanks for clarifying his goal totals. I have a feeling he will wind up with 51 goals. CCH held a powerful Trinity to one (weak) goal, don't see Fern Creek scoring. Real shame some teams choose to play a weak schedule year in, year out. No rule I know of that says Region 6 teams are not permitted to play teams outside their region. But as noted, ("they do have a few good matches under their belt but I also noticed their scoring is way down when they play quality teams."), playing good teams hampers padding the stat sheet.

Could not agree more. KHSAA's method, blind draw is a cheap way out. Nothing wrong with seeding the teams, rewarding the teams that play a strong schedule, winning against good teams though out the season. 10-0 and 7-0 results in the qt finals is embarrassing to KHSAA. Injuries took their toll, but overall a good season for NDA, Congratulations. Good luck to Sacred Heart, they have a great program. The potential for the Sacred Heart Vs Owensboro Catholic final should be an entertaining match.

Great win for CCH, they dominated 65-70 minutes of the 80. Trinity, IMO did not play "conservative", as some appear to want to blame their loss on… two years in a row. Trinity did not have a good game, but many times when a team plays bad it is more due to the opponent's (CCH) play more then their own. I think this was clearly the case tonight, CCH was well prepared, had a great tactical game plan and executed it to perfection. This was a total team win, every CCH player did his job and played well. Hesitate to name just a few because again, they are played well, but thought Wessels, The Back Four D,F,M,T, Litzler, Day, and Schutt in that order had excellent games. Not sure why Vogt did not play, but hope he is ready and able to go Wednesday, hate for a kid to miss out playing in these type of games. Went back and looked at the prediction thread for this game, apparently there are not as many NKY folks on the "band wagon" as they think. There were 8 predictions on that thread, 5 took the easy route, went with the favorite Trinity, shame on you NKY folks. 3 sitting in the good seats on the wagon picked CCH and yours truly and 2 much info got it exactly correct, predicted CCH 2, Trinity 1. Remaining seats on the wagon are going quick now, hurry and grab one before they are all gone.

CCH has something going on, two wins in 9th regional by pks, come from behind, twice to win @ MoCo. CCH 2, Trinity 1.

Common sense prevails, I compliment khsaa for doing this. The players deserve as much student body support as possible and to play in front of as large a crowd as possible, this move allows this to happen. Likely no two different schools are more connected in a number of ways as CCH and NDA are. I'm pretty sure at least one family has a son playing for CCH and a daughter playing for NDA, obviously their families can now watch most of both games. Not surprise by either of these two games' outcomes, Sacred Heart beats Simon Kenton by the same score 3-0. NDA Vs Sacred Heart will be a great matchup, well worth the KHSAA $10 admission.

I completely disagree that shut-outs are over rated. To keep a clean sheet against a good team it takes great determination, likely some very good individual defense, good concentration and a total team effort. Listen to any professional coach's post game comments, almost EVERY time his team kept a clean sheet he comments on the importance of it.

Heavy rain will help Simon Kenton. Sacred Heart is more technical and their style of play requires good concentration, heavy, consistent rain is a distraction, harder to play possession style in a heavy rain. But SH still to good, they move on to face NDA in qt finals.

If the consensus amongst the voters are it is close, (which I believe most think it was) histroy shows the senior will win the award the majority of the time. Not agreeing or disagreeing the senior should receive a little extra consideration, just stating histroy does repeat itself. Does anyone know why there is not an MVP award? Seems to make a lot of sense and certainly this season it would have been 100% legit, Day MVP, ASnow OPOY.

Have not seen MoCo play this season, prediction is then a bit of a guess on my part. CCH breaks out of their scoring slump, CCH 5 - MoCo 1.

Functional training lasted maybe a season or two? Nice idea, no idea why it was done away with. Club soccer in the US is all about resume building for the club. The "we must win" altitude, IMO is a major reason this country struggles to advance on the world stage, and you can argue the US is going backwards. The US no longer dominates CONCACAF, missed out on the next Federation Cup, is a long, long shot to make the mens Olympics, etc. For most clubs it's all about winning to get those Gotsoccer points, winning to move up the MRL ladder, winning State Cup, Regionals, etc. Got to splash our website with "accomplishments" to attract the next group of players that will allow us to "win". It winds up being a loosing cycle for the US player, the US National team. You can count on two hands at most, the US players that have had good success in Europe. Claudio Reyna, McBride, Friedel, Dempsey, Howard, Donovan, not many more. MLS impact players are either S American or European or old European professionals looking for an easy pay day. Most of the impact players in college are mostly S American or European players that have figured out they are not good enough to make it professionally, here for a free education. The US system is failing, needs way less emphasis on winning, way more emphasis on development.

I chalk some up it to the mentality of the club soccer coach, "you need to work on that on your own". Basketball players are expected to shoot 100 jump shots everyday, sure the BB coach will divide the players up at the end of practice do get this done, but they are still around to assist, provide advice, motivate, etc. Sure the special kid will shoot an extra couple of hundred jump shots on his own, but the team is still working on scoring during practice. Finishing in any sport is repetition, timing, technique, technique, technique, practice, practice, practice. Hardest thing to do in sports, put the ball/puck in the back of the net, through the net, etc. Watch a lot of Brazilian, Spanish, German club and national teams train, they spend a lot of time on finishing, individual and small finishing drills at game speed. US soccer training methods spend way to much time on possession type drills, to much time just playing 8 v 8 or 11 v 11. Not nearly enough time on technical training and finishing. Even the top professional teams spend a good time on technical training, US seem to write this off to "technical training is for the U13s and younger ages." US national team is (still) light years behind the top countries in technical ability, ask yourself why?

Nice! I would expect NDA to dominate the country club sports, golf, swimming, and tennis. Was not aware they are on the verge of 5 straight volleyball regional titles. Good luck in getting that 5th.

Hats to the CCH staff for trying something different. In the end it did not create a goal but it sure did create some great chances off of Day's crosses. When teams struggle to score a staff will first ask, are we generating good scoring chances? Finishing these chances comes second. All tournament CCH generated good chances, finishing is the problem, one a lot of teams have. My guess is CCH will spend some time this week doing finishing drills, unfortunately they play again on Monday, very little time. Hopefully they win on Monday then they have 4 days to work finishing. It amazes me how little a lot of soccer coaches spend on finishing. Watch a lot of club training sessions, in this country, IMO not nearly enough time is spent on finishing.

Offical time, clock or referee? Since HS rules say the clock is stopped for all stoppage of play, goal, cards, injuries, the clock is accurate, as long as the person operating the clock knows what they are doing. It seems to work just fine for HS basketball games where you have hundreds more stoppage and restarts every game. I vote for HS soccer to follow college soccer, let the game clock be the offical time. Take the guess work out of it and allow the CR to concentrate on his other responsibilities.

CCH dominated first half, thought they looked really good, played simple, combined well and found players with space. They had 2-3 good chances in the first half but could not find the back of the net. Second half was even, Ryle had a nice shot go off the crossbar, CCH had a couple of good chances, one off a great cross that only needed to be redirected with any part of the body, could have been walked in off the chest, but somehow found it's way up and over the crossbar. PKs were all well struck, CCH keeper makes one great save and that's the difference in advancing and the end of your season. With CCH dominating the first half, second have played even, CCH win = fair result. Good clean game, one yellow card that was questionable card, but over all two good teams just playing good soccer, no nonsense, nice to see. Good luck to CCH in State Tournament, Ryle should be proud of a good season.

Boone's lack of depth…very, very little depth will come into play. 3rd game in five days is tough on any team, but one with very, very little depth is to much to ask for. Add NDA's possession style, causes opponent to chase, use a lot of energy will result in a 2-0 NDA win/fifth straight Regional Title.
