Opoy / Dpoy......you are the tie breaker

Featured Replies

So it has come down to a tie. You are the remaining coach that hasn't voted.

The stats for the regular season are in .......

Who are Opoy and Dpoy and MVP from NKY and why?

One pick for each.....

D. Morgan opoy seen every team play at least 2 times. He is by far the most dangerous player with the ball.

I was thinking about Morgan as my mvp because only 5 players have goals and assists on that team and he has 24....... Without him, they don't exist.....but the strength of schedule they have played keeps me from the Opoy vote.........

But that isn't my final vote.......still deciding and doing my "gosintas"

DPOY would be Roe from Ryle

An all around great defender, sees the field and distributes the ball very well

Opoy for me is Snow from cooper, saw him only once but I think he is their entire attack. His #'s are great and seems that he doesn't have padded stats

OPOY - Morgan

DPOY - Darple

MVP - Snow

I could flip flop Morgan and Snow but I think Morgan was the most dangerous striker this season, next to Snow & Wend.

This can't surprise you....right?

I also feel that Morgan is very dangerous with the ball, once he faces the goal, the defense is usually at a disadvantage. I believe that you could make a very similar statement about any of the other boys that continue to be mentioned as the top few offensive players.

I can't go along with saying he is by far the most dangerous, I have not seen anything that truly separates him from the others, I do not see stats that support this claim either. With the schedule that Scott has played, and using him as their lone striker, I would expect to see him put up numbers in the neighborhood of what Wend has posted for Conner.

I think another stat that does not help this claim is that 14 of his 24 goals, and half his assists, were tallied in 4 matches against teams that were not ranked in the top 100, I also think these teams had a negative scaled rating. With an aggregate score of 21-2 in these matches, it also appears that they were pretty one-sided contests.

I thought the objective was breaking a tie, how does naming two DPOY do this? Or, are you naming them Co-DPOY?

I didn't see MVP as an option

Also who was nominated for these awards, that would help to know.

Did nominations and voting take place this past weekend or is that next weekend? I know it's before Regionals.

OTB usually just says what he thinks but I can't fault him for the fact that loyalty to his team and these boys makes him reluctant to choose.

OPOY seems like one that really could come down to a tie-breaker. Based on number of goals/assists, percent contribution to offense, and considering quality of opponents I'd be deciding between Adam Snow and DJ Sanders. I'd give the nod to Snow based on how enjoyable he is to watch play and the number of shockingly good goals I've seen him score.

What a great year for goalscorers in NKY with Snow, Sanders, Litzler, Day, Wend, Geiman, Leffler, and others.

As easy as it is to identify individual attacking players, identifying a single, clear stand-out defender is harder. No doubt CCH has a great defensive unit this year, but I'd be hard pressed to name one individual over the others. Does the defender with the most votes become the DPOY or do coaches nominate/vote for this honor separately?

I know this is old news but just want to throw this out there. When you look at stats, Morgan had 4 goals against Calvary. This game was 0-0 at half time and Morgan came out and scored 4 in the second half to give his team the win. These obviously weren't easy goals to score for him. I don't think it's fair to say this was weak competition for a weak Scott team. Morgan had to work for those goals.

Leave it to Sir! to come up with something that everyone should be able to agree on. I cannot remember when I have seen this many different people being mentioned as a top goalscorer.

The players must be nominated for the OPOY and the DPOY and they have a separate vote for these awards.

By no means am I saying that it was easy for him to score the 4 goals, or discounting his efforts, putting the ball in the back of the net requires some serious skill and I feel that all players have to work for their goals.... just some more than others.

I looked a little deeper at some stats, and additional details, for the players mentioned in this thread that have played against Calvary this season. I did so because I think that comparables is a pretty fair way to assess individual performances by a finite group of players. You also commented that Scott has a weak team, because of this, I looked up each school and listed the players in order of how their teams are ranked so this could also be taken into account if one chooses to do so.

Geiman(BB) - Had 2 goals and 1 assist. Not sure of total minutes played, looks like several players got minutes in this match so I would be surprised if the coach played him very deep into the second half.

Morgan(Scott) - Had 4 goals. Not sure of total minutes played but comments made state he played in both halves. According to stats, it looks like he might have played the entire match, I can't say for sure.

Snow(Cooper) - Had 3 goals. I can confirm that these were scored early in the match and on a total of four shots, he did not take another shot after scoring the third and did not play half the match.

Leffler(WV) - Had 2 goals and 2 assists, in two matches against Calvary. Not sure of total minutes played in either match, I would say he played the majority of both because they were closely contested matches and they show using 3 subs in one and only 2 in the other.
