Opoy / Dpoy......you are the tie breaker

Featured Replies

Would be nice to see some recognition for players that play in counties other than Boone and Kenton. There are some good players in Campbell County. Geiman is a good player, but Augspurger for Campbell County has 21 goals and 4 assists yet see no mention of him anywhere.

Both players are really good players and should be mentioned in the discussion. However I think where they are a little behind Snow, Sanders, Litzler, and Day ibecause of their strength of schedule. They can't help that though and have had outstanding seasons. The reason Wend gets mentioned is obvious (36 goals and 9 assists). Strength of schedule is not good though. All these players are really good and it has been fun watching them this year and the success they've had.

I feel the best player I watched this year IMO is Day (mvp).

DPOY- Roe was the best I saw all year.

OPOY-I really struggled with this as mentioned above because so many players had good years. I'm doing co-OPOY for Snow and Sanders. Looking at everything it is really close.

By no means am I saying that it was easy for him to score the 4 goals, or discounting his efforts, putting the ball in the back of the net requires some serious skill and I feel that all players have to work for their goals.... just some more than others.

I looked a little deeper at some stats, and additional details, for the players mentioned in this thread that have played against Calvary this season. I did so because I think that comparables is a pretty fair way to assess individual performances by a finite group of players. You also commented that Scott has a weak team, because of this, I looked up each school and listed the players in order of how their teams are ranked so this could also be taken into account if one chooses to do so.

Geiman(BB) - Had 2 goals and 1 assist. Not sure of total minutes played, looks like several players got minutes in this match so I would be surprised if the coach played him very deep into the second half.

Morgan(Scott) - Had 4 goals. Not sure of total minutes played but comments made state he played in both halves. According to stats, it looks like he might have played the entire match, I can't say for sure.

Snow(Cooper) - Had 3 goals. I can confirm that these were scored early in the match and on a total of four shots, he did not take another shot after scoring the third and did not play half the match.

Leffler(WV) - Had 2 goals and 2 assists, in two matches against Calvary. Not sure of total minutes played in either match, I would say he played the majority of both because they were closely contested matches and they show using 3 subs in one and only 2 in the other.

CARD

Please tell me your retired, no working stiff has this kind of time to do this type of research...

Just saying

I saw this being discussed on the Cooper/St Henry thread. Yes, voting was done this past weekend. I heard from a good source what a couple were and was somewhat but not completely surprised. I believe they will be formally announced at or after Regional finals.

BTW, as I understand it the players involved were already informed.

I'm good with this if I get to keep all my frequent flyer points and hotel rewards.

Just spoke to a coach today. All region team was announced last night through email by coaches association president. My guess is after teams tell their players today we will hear the results. This coach told me his players were finding out tonight who on his team made all region.

Heard this weekend that

OPOY- went to Day of Cov Cath

DPOY- went to Roe of Ryle

COY- went Robertson of Cov Cath

I totally agree with first two, although I myself would have selected Snow. I think COY is way off base, when you have the talent Cov Cath has anybody could coach that team and get 15 wins. Who could coach a team with the OPOY, and from what I heard 6 players make all region team, 4 of which we first team all region. Feel there are way more deserving coaches who won with way less talent.

Agree! Like the Holmes coach, who is making Holmes soccer a team to take seriously.

Adam snow has my vote for OPOY.

....

So hard to gauge and compare Snow and Day because the level of talent around them is vastly different. In addition to that, they are as different as they could be in how they are offensive players, one is so skilled with the ball, every touch is perfect, great facilitator, but not a finishing mindset, and lots of inactivity when not on the ball. The other is a GREAT (not good) finisher, a nose for the goal, and a mindset that I absolutely love of figuring out ways to score.

Hard to go wrong with either.

So, when will the official results be released or have they been? I would also like to ask how many players from each team are allowed to be nominated by that teams coach.

Couldn't agree more. It all boils down to what criteria is used. I think most people base it on the theme of this thread (excluding me as noted a few weeks back) based on pure individual stats. I stand by the statement I made weeks ago which is that Snow is the pure OPOY. However; since they do not have an OOPOY (overall) award which I would still give to Day and his play on Saturday demonstrated why, they couldn't go wrong naming him. In that game, he was back in the box on every corner or offensive Ryle play on goal marking and barking out marks, he seemed to win every midfield 50/50 ball played he was in on with well placed and directed headers, changed direction of attack when his team tends to go vertical with either cross field passes or diagonal speedy dribbling and then there were the countless extremely well placed through balls and crosses, 3 of which I saw from looking right down the goal line should have been tap ins. A well deserved award without a doubt. That said, Snow is a junior while Day is a senior which if it was close in voting could have been a factor.

If the consensus amongst the voters are it is close, (which I believe most think it was) histroy shows the senior will win the award the majority of the time. Not agreeing or disagreeing the senior should receive a little extra consideration, just stating histroy does repeat itself.

Does anyone know why there is not an MVP award? Seems to make a lot of sense and certainly this season it would have been 100% legit, Day MVP, ASnow OPOY.
