Cov.Cath plays Trinity Saturday night at 6 at Henry Clay. The roll comes to an end. Trinity is probably the top team in the final 8 and you can't beat them making mistakes in the defensive third or missing goal scoring opportunities.

Some great individual efforts with Shkrabba setting up the opener by taking the ball 40+ yards and beating two defenders on his own, then putting a solid shot on goal to allow for the rebound putback.

 

Day just went through the entire Indian team to score the game winner.

Great evening with Clyde and Little Mentschie, starting with (shock!) dinner at the Dry Ridge Cracker Barrel.

 

MoCo has beautiful facilities, I was very impressed, even in the chilly and constant rain (17% chance of rain was nearly 100% wet). Nice crowd on both sides, as well as a nice crowd in the end zone on the sidewalk with chairs and umbrellas. Kudos to the 35-50 Colonel Crazies that made the trip as well.

 

CovCath dominated possession in the first half, had 3 great chances, gave up one sloppily defended counter-attack, and trailed 1-0 at intermission.

 

#6, who had an up and down night for the Colonels, contributed a goal and an assist in the 2nd half to garner the 2-1 lead. The Colonels then played a little awkwardly for about 10 minutes, intermingling attacking and defending, but in a way that it never appeared everyone was on the same page. MoCo drew a penalty in the box (easy call) with just under 4 minutes to play and evened the score on the subsequent PK.

 

While the building was bouncing, and the Indians were celebrating, Day took the kick off, slashed through the defense immediately, and got 1 on 1 with the keeper -- advantage Day. Really impressive goal :15 after the MoCo equalizer. Crazy.

 

Best of luck against Trinity, and congrats to the Indians on a fine season. They played well and with great passion tonight. I love their #10 in the midfield, he is very, very nice.

MoCo played much better than they did in the first matchup earlier in the year and they had quite a bit of possession at various times during this game. CCH had a break away and a couple other rather simple finishes in the first half that just need to be put into the goal but they weren't. A CCH defender got caught dribbling at midfield, Shkrabba took it about 40 yards as noted and got off a nice shot that was stopped by Romes only to have the rebound knocked in by a trailing (unmarked) following player for MoCo. Not completely certain but I think that was MoCo's two shots on goal in the first half. First time that CCH has trailed at half all year I believe.

 

Griffin Lamb made some nice individual moves about 5 minutes into the second half and slotted a nice shot, low and hard, past the MoCo keeper to equalize and give CCH life. Back and forth for the next 10 mins or so until Lamb got loose on the end line and slid a nice pass across the mouth of the goal that Litzler finished nicely and just like that it was CCH 2-1.

 

The rest of the half was a battle with both teams having chances quite frankly. About 3 1/2 mins left, a MoCo player and a CCH defender both going for the ball in the right corner of the CCH box......CCH player slides, pushes the ball away, MoCo player trips over him and PK awarded to MoCo. Just very questionable to me to make that call on what looked to be a good tackle. MoCo equalizes on the PK.

 

Bryce Day takes the ensuing kickoff and slices and dices just about the entire defensive unit for MoCo and a clinical finish later, CCH is back up 3-2. If I hadn't seen this type of thing many times in the past, I would have been shocked. Great moment for a great player.

 

Time to move on and focus on Trinity but a great effort by all the CCH players and a great effort by MoCo too in a game that was exciting to watch. The midfield battle was really something to see with Day/Wessels matched up with a very good MoCo midfield.

Pretty sure this is the first soccer game I've seen in 10 years. Picked a great one to go to. Highly skilled players who bust their hump. Day's goal happened so fast I didn't even see the beginning of it because I was watching MoCo fans on the fence jaw-jacking with Romes. Turned around and Day was going through the MoCo D with ease. Poor goalie had ZERO chance on that one.

 

Fun night.

Sidenote: I now can see why soccer threads get a little over the top after sitting with parents. A few were wound tightly to say the least.

Disagree on the easy call part of that. Not sure where you were situated but I was right there and the CCH player did play that ball away and the MoCo player went over after that. Ill-advised challenge? Maybe but the way MoCo was slide tackling all over the field........you don't call that to even the game.

 

I would add that this was CCH's (and maybe MoCo's) 4th game in 6 days if my math is right (Tues, Thurs, Saturday, Monday). That's a schedule made up by a KHSAA nitwit that has never had to play in games like this.
