Cincinnati (OH) Moeller at #2 Covington Catholic Predictions 12/12/17
:watching:
-
Covington Catholic 3 North Hardin 0
Good, hard fought game by both teams. Similar to the Daviess/Dunbar match game closer then the score, but make no mistake both fair results. CCH once again plays their game. I thought #3 for NH simply wore himself out playing 60% of the field. Clearly their only real threat just had nothing in the tank at the end of the first half and most of the second, can't blame the kid for his effort. Congratulations CCH on the win and good luck on Saturday.

Daviess County 5 Dunbar 1
Dunbar should have gone up 2-0 in this one. Missed a great opportunity from the 6 yard line and the pass back to the Daviess Co keeper that went off the post. Those two go in and who knows. Daviess then go up two and clearly Dunbar was done for the night.

West Jessamine 1 Simon Kenton 0 (PK's)
Based on the play by play on the other thread the first and last PK taken by Simon Kenton went wide. Very tough to ask your keeper(s) to stop shots then step up and knock a PK into the back of the net.

West Jessamine 1 Simon Kenton 0 (PK's)
A strong statement to make about any one player, even more so considering (I think) the WJ keeper is only a freshman. She is on her way to one heck of a HS career.

West Jessamine 1 Simon Kenton 0 (PK's)
Very interesting, thanks for the insight SKUK.

West Jessamine 1 Simon Kenton 0 (PK's)
Do I understand this correctly, Simon Kenton used TWO different keepers during the 5 PKs taken by WJ? Did the first keeper get hurt during these PKs? This is a FIRST for me, I have never seen nor heard of a team using two different keepers during a 5 player round of PKs. I have known a few teams to use a different keeper (for all of the PKs) then the keeper that played all 90 minutes (80 minutes plus 5 and 5 OT) but NEVER switching during the PKs. If the first Simon Kenton keeper was not injured during the PKs can someone explain the reasoning behind this decision and do you think it had an impact on the result.

West Jessamine 1 Simon Kenton 0 (PK's)
Did the experience WJ gained by going to PKs in the first round against NDA help them in last night's semi final, likely. Lex Cath Vs WJ should make for an exciting final. WJ beat Lex Cath 3-0 back on 9/21, how does that result impact Saturday's final, if at all?

All state? All tournament team?
Logic and common sense.

West Jessamine/Simon Kenton Predictions
Is the OT golden goal or full 5 minutes X two?
-
Covington Catholic 3 Anderson (OH) 1
You may be correct, news to me.
-
Covington Catholic 3 Anderson (OH) 1
So it down to Mason and Summit as the only OH boys teams still alive from Cincinnati, or am I missing someone?
-
All state? All tournament team?
So we agree it's not a prefect system, it does not recognize all players deserving, and it leaves off players who deserve to be on the list. Do you think my name change suggestion is more fitting then? How does my post #13 have anything to do with CCH?

West Jessamine/Simon Kenton Predictions
Four good teams, two very good matchups. I see both games being hard fought contest that will come down to a few plays. Lex Cath 1 - Owenboro Catholic 0. I could also see this game going to PKs, then it's a coin flip. W Jessamine 3 - Simon Kenton 1 in the night cap.

All state? All tournament team?
Completely agree. 38 goals, 10 assist while playing for the #29th team AND leading his team to the 10th region title, oh forgot that makes zero difference, voting takes place BEFORE the most important part of the season, what a joke. Comparing these factors to some that were selected over him and once again the "All Years of Service and Reputation (rather warranted or not) Awards" shine threw as the better title. As with the NKY "All Years of Service and Reputation Awards" simply consider who votes, the coaches, explains everything. Ask yourself how many games does each coach actually see these players play? MAYBE 3 , ( and that would be one, two, or three teams at most) if their team has them on their regular schedule then again during (maybe) one scouting situation then again in regional play. And in more times then not the coaches voting see the kids they voted for ZERO times. What a "great" format, laughable is more like it.

Covington Catholic 2 Collegiate 0
Appears to be a theme here. In addition to these news article quotes, on 3 seperate occasions Collegiate lacked sportsmanship and class. Two on the field during play and one immediately after the game. No excuse, win, loose, or draw always do it with class.

This year's all-region choices
Here's the point most people are missing. Just because a player has a good junior season (or freshman or sophomore season) it does not automatically mean they will have another good season or better season the next year. I've been following HS sports for a long time and I have seen a lot of players have less successful seasons their senior year (or junior year). Many things can cause this, injuries can be one reason. But you also have kids peak at different ages, kids mature physically and mentally at different ages play a factor. We've all seen the stud 7th and 8th grader become average at best by their sophomore or junior year. Kids loose interest, find other things more important (to them) and just don't have the same passion come their senior season. And the other big factor, some kids just get lazy, allow the headlines to go to their head while other kids work the butt off and greatly improve in one years time. The single biggest cause for separation between good players and great players at 16 and older, the great players work 10x harder then the average or good players. Again ALL players each season should start at zero, should all be equal. Then these awards should be solely based on THAT season. But obviously this will never happen. The current system, at times ignores the kids that most earned it, the kids that out work the majority.

This year's all-region choices
This only reinforces the need to change the name to the "All recognition for years of service award." Just because a player has a good year one year should have no bearing on him winning an award the following year. It should be a year by year evaluation, every year each player starts on equal ground, obviously this is not the case. Players that play varsity 3-4 years get tons more recognition then the players playing varsity a year or two. This makes zero sense. Playing boys varsity your freshman or sophomore yr has more to do with lack of depth in that program. Simply look at CCH for example. 18 seniors, 8, 9, at times 10 of them are starters on the State Championship team in 2015. That situation prevented any of last year's juniors from being on varsity. Does this mean they were not good enough to play varsity, no many would have started for any other varsity team last year and some their freshman yr. Jump ahead to 2016 season, CCH repeats winning the very tough 9th region and are getting ready to play in the State Tournament Qt Finals. That is how you define depth in a program. Players attending CCH know they will have to wait their turn to contribute at the varsity level, but are rewarded by winning a regional title, winning their first State Tournament game and are on their way to a State QT Final game.

This year's all-region choices
Not sure I would use all of these same words, put I agree with these 3 post. I think it is long over due to simply do away with what has for years now become known as the "All recognition for years of service awards/it's your (coaches) turn awards." Taking nothing away from every player on this list but the omissions from that one team that just happens to be the ONLY team still playing, the top ranked team that played the most difficult schedule, that scored the most goals and tied for third for goals allowed from all of the teams represented on this list is embarrassing IMO. I have no proof but I don't buy CCH only dominated 3 players. For them to do so they had to NOT dominate Stava…think about that for a moment. I could go on for pages and pages but sometimes less is more. As in less individual awards but one heck of a unified good team!

Notre Dame 1 Highlands 0 (9th Region Finals)
A more politically correct term may be, over-filled.
-
West Jessamine at Notre Dame
More like drawing Butler in the first round then UK in the second. Come on man, Duke, really, really? Look again it's the KENTUCKY State Soccer Tournament. All seriousness I like your suggestion to seed the teams, but who knows how this would ever be done. Do they seed in OH, something tells me they do.

Complete game shutouts
Perfect point, well said!

Regional champs
That darn realignment thing gets me every time. I can't even keep up with who is in the National League or American League any longer. Bring back the old days, they should only play each other in the World Series.

Notre Dame 1 Highlands 0 (9th Region Finals)
Getting better, but we need a few more frames. Lets remember how offsides is governed. It is a split second occurrence, is the HHS player in an onsides or offsides position at the EXACT time the ball leaves the other HHS player's foot? In this frame the ball is still on the HHS players foot and it would appear she is getting ready to pass the ball with her right foot, so we need a few more frames. Maybe just maybe the NDA player on the far left steps up or the HHS runs onto an offsides position right before the HHS player actually passes the ball. The HHS player (without the ball) is just slightly past the NDA center back...in this frame. These are great shots for this discussion by the way. With a few more frames they would be great to use in refereeing courses.

West Jessamine at Notre Dame
And if the Dixie band is using part of the parking lot practicing parking will be at a premium. Fifth Third bank, after hours across the street maybe an option, K-Mart south about a block and across the street has a huge, widely unused parking lot.
