Regional champs

How common is it that a school repeats as regional Champs? I just saw where cov Cath did it this year and thought it was very impressive because you rebuild every year due to seniors leaving. How often or how many in a row is the 9th region record?

The school just across the street won their six straight 9th Region soccer Championships (NDA) and while it's unusual, it happens. CovCath Basketball won five straight 9th Region Championships from 67-71 and two straight in 2013 and 2014. Now the question of winning back to back State Titles (except in swimming X) indeed is highly unusual. In Basketball it been since the early 1990's that it has been done!

St X won back-to-back state titles in soccer:

1972 and 1973

2002 and 2003

2007, 2008 and 2009

2011 and 2012

Ballard is the only other team (to date) that has managed the feat on the boys side:

1981 and 1982

1986 and 1987

Of course it depends on the Region......Seems harder these days than it was in the past.

CCH has done it:

84, 85, 86, 87

91, 92

97, 98, 99, 2000, 01

2015 -2016

My numbers didn't go earlier...

I'm not bashing St X, they have a great school and soccer program. Since their State Championship in 2012, St X has not even won a regional title. Trinity winning in 2013, 14, and 15 has a lot to do with this. This season Collegiate knocked them both off in the 7th Region. PL Dunbar won Region 11 in 2012, 13, and 14. Bowling Green wins Region 4 is 2012, 13, 14, and 15. As previously pointed out the last back to back Region 9 titles was in 2009/10. Taking a look at some of the top regions, region 4,7, 9,11, and 12 in boys soccer, interesting enough Region 9 and 12 (play each other in first round) are the only ones this season to have back to back Championships. Since something like 2004 or so only teams from these 5 Regions have won the State Championship.

Like I said....depends on the region.....in this example, during that time, how many other "regions" would St X have easily won......

CovCath is the only team this year with a chance to join the Elite Club of KY boys teams that have won back-to-back state titles (they would join St X and Ballard). Go NKY!

To answer a prior question, I believe 4 of the remaining 16 boys teams are repeat regional Champs this year: KY#2 Daviess Co, KY#6 CovCath, KY#7 Mercer Co and KY#41South Laurel.

I think you can make this same point about a lot of teams, HHS, Ryle, Henry Clay, South Warren for examples. Put any of these in a any region besides, 4, 7, 9, 11 or 12 and how many more regional titles do they have?

Regions 5 and 10 were ranked higher by Maher as a group this year than Region 12. I wasn't aware of any Region 12 team (current or former alignment) winning State since 2004. There were winners from (former alignment) Region 6 and Region 14, I believe, but I didn't see 12.

You can add Region 13 to the list, and I think your correct, nothing for Region 12.

That darn realignment thing gets me every time. I can't even keep up with who is in the National League or American League any longer. Bring back the old days, they should only play each other in the World Series.

Your Region 12 confusion is not alignment driven... maybe a bald tire?

Holy Cross won 3 regional titles in a row in the late 90's. That was before realignment when NKY was all one big region.
