I like the way you are thinking. Also, it's good to have another Rebel fan post on BGP. I've been the only one carry the torch for the Rebels for a few years now. I am with you on the first part of your statement. I don't know why anyone would hit the thumbs down on this. They may disagree with you regarding Boone County's chances of surprising some people but there was nothing objectionable in what you said.

Good deal, @sportyg. A couple of monster plays on there. My favorite is where he throws the blocker aside, sticks the ball carrier, who then fumbles the ball. I hope he leads with that play on his senior recruiting film. I also like seeing him in the backfield. Williams contributes in a lot of ways.

You make good points in this post. Not to be argumentative about the TE but just a couple of observations. He probably has college offers as a DE. I think Cooper did use him at TE in the manner in which he excels, as a blocker. I noticed him go out for a pass once. He wasn't open. But he made a lot of good blocks and generally controlled the guy across from him and kept the defender from making plays. On defense he was at MLB a lot and clogs up the middle. He has an imposing presence at LB. At DE he is hard to block. He uses his hands really well in controlling the blocker and has good drive in his legs. You don't see him getting taken out of the play. He's 6'4" and looks bigger. Very long arms and legs. I believe he's going to do well on Saturdays in the future.

Welcome aboard @RebelDad! It sure would be great for Boone to start the season off with a victory. Last year the difference in the game was a few big plays over the top or around end by Conner. I think Boone can control the tempo of the game and make it hard on Conner with the running attack. Boone needs to establish itself with the power game and then add some pieces as the game goes on. It was disappointing that the scrimmage this week was canceled between Boone and Newport. Boone needed the scrimmage to work out some issues with the secondary on defense and to get some rhythm in the passing game and other offensive sets. It will be a work in progress. I think Conner's best chance to win will be with big plays. This could come from a skill player getting loose and making a long catch and run or with a return on special teams. Boone is still vulnerable in these two areas. I predict Boone pounds the ball wearing down Conner and squeaks out a victory in a low scoring game. Boone 18 Conner 12

Watching the game, my impression was the Highlands QB is accurate with short and medium range passes but not so accurate on the long passes. Apparently, that was true only in this game. If he zeroes in on those long range passes there will be good things ahead for the bluebirds. I have to give credit where credit is due. #11 played some good defense on several of those long passes and so did #3. Too bad for Cooper #3 was on an island on that play 40 seconds before the half ended. He got blocked and there was no one else to stop that Highlands score. I thought that was an important play in the game.

Thanks for pointing out his contribution. He has spent time in the weight room and has bided his time to get on the field. It is great to see him making plays. (and no, I am not related to him)

I believe that was Connor Bridges, #57. He got two turnovers last night.

#3 was one of the bright spots for Cooper. On D, the kid makes sure, hard tackles. Also made a nice catch in the end zone. They will need to get him the ball more in the future, though they tried against Highlands. Cooper's pass blocking needs work because Lee had to scramble a lot. Of course, the sophomore QB threw some ill-advised passes. He also made some plays. He will improve. Schwalbach ran well in the middle. I was a bit surprised because he is small but he has a low center of gravity, good drive from his legs, and always falls forward. I kept waiting for him to pasted when he ran up the middle but it didn't happen. He is a good RB.

Perry is every bit of 6'1" or more and has looong arms. Cooper's passing game never really got under way last year so we didn't get to see him much. Armour is as advertised, very quick, athletic, and can catch. I do think these two players will give the defense some problems if the line can block. I think Lee spent a lot of time running around last year because of the pass rush. Spencer at TE is a complete unknown at this point. He was a force in Pee Wee. But he transferred to Cov Cath as a Freshman, I think, and he didn't get much playing time there. When he came back to Cooper last year he had to sit out several games. His role on offense last year was primarily as a blocker. It will be interesting to see if they open up a little this season and throw to him. I'm not sure how well he runs after the catch but he is definitely a big target. I think he will be a fine blocker. He will be a force in the middle on defense. I'd like to see them throw to him. As I said, that is kind of an unknown a this point.

Newport at Boone Co. scrimmage for tonight is cancelled due to weather.

If New Cath has a power run game it could be a long night for Scott. Boone's line opened holes for Boone RBs in the power set and it appeared they could do this all night. After one series of doing that Boone switched to a different offensive set and had more difficulty against Scott's defense. Perrin is a legit back for Scott. He has good speed and is hard to bring down. He will break tackles with his stiff arm or at least get a few extra yards as the defender tries to drag him down. Scott offense also had success with the intermediate passing game. It appeared Boone was not ready for that thinking Scott only threw deep.

This was the score for the first half. JV teams took over after the half. There were no returns on kick-offs or punts. Receivung team caught the ball and the play was over. Offense took over on the 35 on kicks and where caught on punts. On the first series for Scott, Perrin had a nice run when he bounced outside and Boone had no contain. He raced about 40 yards to the endzone. He looked pretty solid to me. I think he is bigger than his older brother. He is a very good RB. Has a nice stiff arm and does not go down easily. 7 - 0 Scott Boone took over on offense and began to drive down the field with the power run game. The O-line provided lots of push up front and the RBs could get through the line before initial contact. Unfortunately, Boone's best lineman went out with an injury on the first offensive play. I sure hope this is something that will heal before the first game. Nevertheless, the line did well. The first series was capped off by a 10 yard run by the FB. A gaping hole allowed him to get a head of steam for about 7 yards when he was met head on by a safety. It didn't slow him down a bit as he bowled over the defender and ran across the goal line with a second defender hanging on to his arm. 7-7 Both defenses got stops and things went back and forth for a time. Finally, Scott mounted a drive and capped it off with a run by the QB around the rigt side to the corner of the endzone for a TD. 14-7 Scott Boone had opportunity to score and got down within 15 yards (as I recall) of the endzone. A pass in the endzone bounced off the turf into the receivers arms. A penalty ensued as a Boone player disputed the call. This ended Boone's chance to score. The game ended in Scott's favor 14-7. This being a scrimmage, once Boone determined that the power run game was working well the coaches appeared to switch to a different offensive set to work on things there. It was more of a passing set but Boone still had some success running the ball. QB Zach Grau didn't have much time to throw and as a result had several nice runs. I like that he keeps his eyes downfield and had several good attempts extending the play and throwing to a receiver. He just missed on several of these. The o-line will need to work on their pass blocking but for the most part I liked what I saw from their effort. Several sophomores played well for Boone. Probably the best was Cauvey Vastine at RB. I do not doubt that he will wind up with the most carries out of the backfield this season. With the line blocking like it did, the FB running violently between the tackles, another senior getting some carries, and Vastine getting chunks of yardage, Boone may have a productive running attack. Hopefully, Boone's passing attack will match the run when Boone hosts Newport next Thursday at 7 pm. Good luck to Scott on the season!

It varies with coaches. But I will tell you that nobody can count the number of tackles a player makes like a father who slows each play down and goes frame by frame to see who made the tackle. And when in doubt, give the tackle to your son. :lol2:

So... you were a little enthusiastic in your reporting of stats. But I certainly agree he is among the areas best LBs, top five and maybe top two. He was recognized last season on the 1st team defense by NKAFC. For the record, his # of tackles in last four games of his sophomore season were 14, 10, 9, and 6 for a total of 39 in 4 games, not too shabby. He had 60 total tackles in 13 games on the season. This does not take away from the high praise given him. He plays with a lot of heart and has good athleticism, as has been mentioned. He is legit sideline to sideline type player. I expect he will have a great season and be among the best linebackers in the area once again. Certainly could play D2 and I wouldn't count him out of D1. I look forward to seeing him play this season. I hope Boone gives Ryle coaches a reason to keep Saladin on the field.

I can see there being no funding for sports like is happening to other programs, like band. @Zonelife, can you describe what AAU football would look like. Is this something you've heard talked about or are you raising the possibility and wondering if people would support it?
