  1. Glad to hear they got their coach. Good luck to Coach Morris. Much success to you on and off the field.
  2. Find a guy that can play in the middle like Thurza did. Other team had to account for him when running a play. "How we gonna block Thurza?" He also brought toughness in the running game. I can hear the DC of their opponent talking to his players about stopping him when he runs, "Don't run away, square up, and keep low. No, don't run away, gang tackle."
  3. That's what personal days are for. :lol2:
  4. Congratulations! A great opportunity for this kid! How tall is he going to get?
  5. Sorry for hijacking the thread, esp. since its a thread about one H.S. player's offer. I just thought it interesting how many of the local players were getting offered by Union. It will make them fun to watch later, if several of those players accept the offer and play there. To answer the question, I am more certain about the Boone player, MLB/FB John Mark Shutt. Someone told me they saw a twitter post saying that Lloyd's Travon Mason (RB) and John Williams (LB) also received offers. Seems Union is trying to add LBs to the roster (given the earlier reports of players offered). Congratulations to Cov Cath's Carter Black. He deserves the focus in this thread.
  6. Union College was busy in NKY on that day, April 30 (the day they offered SK players and Cov Cath center). They also offered a couple of players from Lloyd and one from Boone.
  7. I don't really know about that. It will be near Cooper H.S. and so those kids will probably go to Cooper, but not necessarily. Some kids who were at Camp Ernst, which is farther away from Boone than the new M.S., some how wound up at Boone H.S., so your guess is as good as mind.
  8. This district is drawn weird. I don't get how a kid at RA Jones M.S. winds up at Ryle H.S. and not Boone H.S. Same happened with Jackson Saladin. I was real happy when he and my son played BCPWFL on the same team and thought about the two of them teaming up at Boone. Then his Mom said he would go to Ryle. I know it's legit, but "Dang it!" Oh well, "That's how the ball bounces." Or should I say, "That's how the line is drawn"?
  9. Can someone provide us with some insight into the 2018 Cooper baseball team? A quick glance at KHSAA tells me they have 12 wins and 5 losses. Who are their top pitchers? Who are their top fielders? Top batters? etc. Is there any regularity to the batting order? If so, who usually bats lead-off and clean-up? Tell us something about the team and its chances in post season. Thanks.
  10. I recall an article in the Enquirer years ago that said the same thing. A local orthopedic surgeon said they are seeing injuries in young people that they only used to see in athletes beyond high school. If memory serves me, I believe an example he gave was of Tommy John surgeries. His larger point was that the repeated use of the same muscles, joints, tendons, and ligaments, in the same way year-round wears them out. He said this wasn't a problem when kids played a sport for a season and then concentrated on a different sport the next season because the different sports used the same muscles, ligaments, joints, etc. differently.
  11. Juliet McGregor is a phenom. I didn't get to see many other events as I was helping out in the field events.
  12. It was a marvelous evening for a track meet! This was a combined Varsity and JV meet, though the results were kept separate. Here are a few of the highlights: Shot Put 1 John Mark Shutt 11 Boone County 39-05.00 10 Braden Bromwell of Walton Verona also threw 39-05 in the JV meet. His 2nd throw was not as long as the overall winner so he got 2nd overall. 2 William Zwick 12 Walton Verona 36-00.00 8 3 Tanner Bates 12 Ryle 35-09.50 6 4 Austin Hamilton 11 Cooper 31-09.00 4 Discus 1 Matt Shazier 12 Walton Verona 134-06 10 2 John Mark Shutt 11 Boone County 99-09 8 3 Hayden Mcclellan 11 Cooper 93-09 6 4 Tanner Bates 12 Ryle 93-01 4 Boys 100m 1 Jake Chisholm 12 Ryle 11.18 NWI 10 2 Jantje Wingo 11 Boone County 11.56 NWI 8 3 Adam Reed 10 Cooper 11.90 NWI 6 4 Drew Brooks 12 Walton Verona 12.53 NWI 4 Boys 200 1 Jake Chisholm 12 Ryle 23.42 NWI 10 2 Thomas Bhoolai 11 Conner 23.52 NWI 8 3 Jantje Wingo 11 Boone County 23.96 NWI 6 4 Brennan Hook 10 Cooper 24.46 NWI 4 5 Curry Shazier 12 Walton Verona 25.21 NWI 2 Boys 400 1 Andrew Roe 12 Ryle 51.95 10 2 Dillon Perry 11 Cooper 53.00 8 3 Josh Ordu 11 Boone County 53.07 6 4 Ty Carter 12 Conner 53.55 4 5 Johnny Martin 11 Walton Verona 55.31 2
  13. Is he class of 2018 or 2019?
  14. I thought it might be basketball.
  15. I think the backup QB also graduated. Finding a QB will be a huge priority for the coaching staff. Travon Mason will need to have a big year. I think the coaches will also have to find some other weapons to take the heat off of Mason. It makes me think that John Williams will get more involved at RB this season. He is a LB and will have to play some in the offensive backfield. He is quite capable. Was terrific at RB in BCPWFL.
  16. That is an amazing accomplishment! Congratulations!
  17. And I'll bet she was a distraction, just the same.
  18. Ohio Dominican was at Boone County H.S. today for the signing of Ethan Haynes. It is official.
  19. Congratulations to Jamie. He comes from a fine family. The last time I saw his Dad he looked like he could still play.
  20. I don't care if it has been 40 years, @colonel-fan made my day by mentioning Ozzie Newsome! One of my favorite players from the era when I went from being more than a fan to a fanatic. The great Wizzard of Oz was actually a WR in college and was switched to TE in the NFL by Cleveland Head Coach, Sam Rutigliano. Rutigliano told Ozzie he would be a good WR but if he would make the switch to TE he may be the greatest TE ever. The idea of switching Newsome to TE was spawned in Ozzie's last season. Rutigliano sent a scout to Alabama to answer one question, "Does Ozzie have a big butt?" The scout, Rich Kotite came back with the shortest scouting report in history, "Yes, he's got a big butt." Rutigliano knew that if he had large hind quarters his 6-2 frame would fill out to about 235 and they could move him to the tight end position. This began the evolution among TEs to more than a blocker who caught a few passes. The next year San Diego drafted Kellen Winslow and he joined Air-Coryell. The switch resulted in a Hall-of-Fame career for Ozzie. The NFL's tight-end revolution began with Browns' Ozzie Newsome, Chargers' Kellen Winslow | cleveland.com Sorry, a bit off-topic. Go! Michael Mayer!
  21. Cauvey Vastine played one game on varsity for Boone County in 2017. We'll see how much he gets the ball in 2018. If I could read the coaches it seemed like they were giving him touches in the one varsity game to see how they might use him next year. That one game, Boone lined up in an I formation. That was the only occasion they used that as their primary formation in a game all year. Vastine appeared to like following the FB into the hole. That does not mean that Boone will line up in an I formation this season. As I said, they only used it in that one game, the last game versus Ballard.
  22. 23. I look at that list and shake my head, not because of what schools are missing from the list, but because of the schools that are on the list. That is impressive!
