The 'Breds posted one of the more impressive results in 2A during Week 0 - a 41-0 drubbing of 4A #10 (at the time) Scott. Cooper suffered a 36-7 setback at the hands of Highlands. Last year's 29-7 win for NewCath was their first ever victory over Cooper.

Hopefully the NewCath boys continue with the same kind of tackling on defense it was impressive, offensively do the same things and keep grinding. Hopefully team continues with the discipline shown on Friday night as well.

Cooper needs to use the wristbands. You have a running Quarterback and are making him run to the sidelines between every play. Also need to sub out the linemen going both ways. We can’t expect to compete with these larger teams with most of our linemen going both ways and the other teams play one position. Also need to get passes to some of the other talented receivers that are available. You have a tight end with college offers that didn’t get used once against highlands. Jmho

You make good points in this post. Not to be argumentative about the TE but just a couple of observations. He probably has college offers as a DE. I think Cooper did use him at TE in the manner in which he excels, as a blocker. I noticed him go out for a pass once. He wasn't open. But he made a lot of good blocks and generally controlled the guy across from him and kept the defender from making plays.

 

On defense he was at MLB a lot and clogs up the middle. He has an imposing presence at LB. At DE he is hard to block. He uses his hands really well in controlling the blocker and has good drive in his legs. You don't see him getting taken out of the play. He's 6'4" and looks bigger. Very long arms and legs. I believe he's going to do well on Saturdays in the future.

Just some observations for next game.

 

-NCC has a lot of size and I’m optimistic Cooper’s line will do good but eventually get tired.

- wristbands definitely should be used a lot more

- every team is locked in on lee maybe put armour at qb for some screen passes to get him in open space.

- keep #20 Floyd (I think)in at all times he was a playmaker.

- pull the wide receiver in on the weak side to make it easier to get outside .

- maybe a change in tempo could help tire some of these big dudes out . Signals/hurry up.

- drink lots of water , I saw a lot of cramping from the humidity last Friday.

Yea and maybe instead of sending wr on dummy routes on run plays have them block down on the linebackers 7 and 21 have a way better chance against dbs than linebackers due to size

It would also make the linebackers think twice about shooting gaps blindly when cooper trying to get to the outside

I think similar to last year where Highlands won 42-22 and then NCC won 29-7. The scoring gap was very similar. In just the same way I think that Highlands and NCC have both improved since last year and I just don't think the Cooper program has moved forward this year. With that, I think you will see a very similar scoring gap as the Highlands game. Where Highlands won by 4 TD's I think you will see NCC also win by about 4 TD's.

I thought #3 for Cooper looked hungry , good athlete. Cooper should definitely get him the ball.

I would anticipate Coach Meadows will have a similar plan in place that Coach Weinrich did last week to control the speedy QB. You do that, and IMO you win the game. I’ll take the guys on the hill.
