Final

The Birds looked pretty good, they kind of started off slow. The running game was log jammed and the passing went deep every time and it was not working. The defense looked good and contained #7 enough. #7 is like a mini Michael Vick and can throw down the field. He got a little excited and threw a few picks. Huddy looked like I hoped he would. After a quarter or two Schwalbach got going and the short passing game was on target and picked up big chunks. Plenty of things to work on for the Birds, but the pieces are all there. Cooper played a lot better than the score says.

IMO opinion, Cooper has a long way to go to be competitive

Congratulations to Highlands on starting off with an impressive win.

To say that #7 is a mini Vick is a stretch. He's small, and throws some ill-advised passes across his body. They have a nice sized T.E. that they never used all night. Highlands was OK at times running & passing. It's a process in the works. They got the job done. Their secondary will get torched if they don't get their DB's looking back and locating the ball on passes. It was a nice win for HHS.

I dont know..... I thought 21 ran tough. 7 definitely has talent just was kind of too cavalier after scrambling around and launching it and got caught a few times. He is going to develop. Cooper D I thought had their moments, at least they were hard hitting and finishing tackles.

 

Highlands was saved by their special teams, really made the difference early.

 

I wouldn't say it was sloppy game.... Both teams made their mistakes but both were going full go with the right attitude, hard to dislike. But at the same time it had the feel of a first game for both programs where you tell they are still feeling it out.

Yeah Ok, he is not literally a mini Vick.... he is a shifty kid that can run the ball and he can launch it too and he's #7..... but at the high school level... not NFL.

Highlands better enjoy the win they play a tough Camels team next week.

Nice win by the Birds but I expected a running clock. Lets see if they can clean this up and smoke the Camels.

Schwalbach rushed for 109 yards 1 td.

3 passes right off the finger tips that should have been TD's for the birds that resulted in punt/loss of downs.. One to Sisson, one to AK, and i forget who the third was. This was a couple plays from being really ugly.

There was some hitting and flying around on D last night for the birds, that was great to see! The mentality on defense that has been lacking the past couple years seems to be gone. Group tackling and flying to the ball are the key to a successful defense. Birds DB’s had a little trouble but it’s hard to play lockdown coverage when the qb is scrambling around as much and coopers qb did. Some work to do, but the birds are much improved. It will be interesting to see how the season progresses.

#3 for Cooper was extremely"pumped up" & vocal for a team that was not very competitive. Whatever motivates you, I guess.

 

Cramer looked rusty on long balls but better when they went to short passing game. Really needs to work on QB sneak. May have been confused by being under C. Stood straight up on a 4th & 1 deep in Cooper territory and got pushed back/ sideways.

 

Defense looked aggressive and did fly to the ball well. Good pass rush. DBs will need to get better against a more precise passing team.

 

70+ yd punt that went OB at the 2nd yd line was pretty to watch.

#3 was one of the bright spots for Cooper. On D, the kid makes sure, hard tackles. Also made a nice catch in the end zone. They will need to get him the ball more in the future, though they tried against Highlands. Cooper's pass blocking needs work because Lee had to scramble a lot. Of course, the sophomore QB threw some ill-advised passes. He also made some plays. He will improve.

 

Schwalbach ran well in the middle. I was a bit surprised because he is small but he has a low center of gravity, good drive from his legs, and always falls forward. I kept waiting for him to pasted when he ran up the middle but it didn't happen. He is a good RB.
