Courier Journal had a few guys predicting Purples to get blown out. This poll is as lopsided as I can remember a defending state champion Bowling Green team being on the wrong end of. For context, BGP voted Cooper to beat Highlands last Friday 82-51, so this is on pace to be worse. It's only Thursday.

I figured Cooper was the favorite, but I didn't realize how definite it would be. Purples getting smoked in the poll.

I saw that over the weekend and it made me curious how much a neutral field really plays in to this. Going from a three score game down to a one score game just because of location is interesting.

It's officially State Championship Week! Purples vs Jags III It will be interesting to see how both teams maneuver around defensively to adjust for the fire power on both sides. I think it will ultimately come down to who get's off the field the most and limits big plays. Cooper is number one in the state regardless of class according to CalPreps. I think that ranking is deserving and earned. This will most certainly be the most explosive team Bowling Green has played, at least offensively. I take a look at both teams resume builders this season and it gives a real glimpse of just how good this game could be, IMO. Cooper downing Ryle, albeit the third game of the season, highlights just how complete a team they are. Combine that with their wins over Highlands and you can see that this team has set out to finish the job or go out on their sword trying. Bowling Green's signature wins are their pulping of St. Xavier in week 10 and their bounce back win over crosstown rival South Warren last Friday. Both games displayed the explosiveness this Purple bunch can tend to have. I'll say this, this is not one of BG's best defenses in recent history. They have moments where they simply do not have assignments covered and have been suspect to giving up significant plays in the run game. Other moments, they look like a sound unit who is fully capable of being another Championship defense. It begs me to ask which side of the coin will they be on come Saturday night? Cooper will have them fully scouted, and prepared to expose any vulnerable tendencies that the film shows. This is not Randy Borchers first rodeo, and the Bowling Green hurdle for him is one that I am sure he and the Jags as a whole are ready to be over. All in all, I expect the third rendition of this match-up to be the most competitive to date. I could see it going either way.

Maybe some debate about the playoff game in 2023, not so much the two games this go around. But if you’ve only got one game in question it’s a hard situation to gauge anyway.

Agreed. It had effects on both ends, both teams had ugly turnovers and sloppy play at times. Purples D did a great job in limiting Cooper's scoring opportunities off those turnovers otherwise it may have been a different story. If no rain holds up, I am tickled to see both of these offenses going at it, guns blazing.

I'm like most and think Ryle has the horses to do it, but for one game for all the marbles it's hard not to take Godzilla. I'm going to have to sit on this one for a few days.

Like I said, it’s going to be a good game. I would argue that I could say those same points about Deuce Bailey. I have a lot of respect for the Jags and I think as long as the weather is good there will be a lot of fireworks. Exciting times!

This same Bowling Green team who returned 70-80% of their starters saw him last year in this same game. It rained, but BG completely shut their passing game down. Bowling Green has been here before and won’t be starstruck like you’re insisting. It’s going to be a good game.

Super impressive result for the Jags and I look forward to the third iteration of BG/Cooper state finals. I'm pretty fond of the Cooper folk on here so I’m sure it will be a fun week! Congratulations!

Highlands is still Highlands, the whole "nobody believes we can do it" mantra just doesn't resonate here. I'm taking Cooper in the poll but there isn't any world where I would be shocked to see a Bluebird W.

Whoever has the better defense on Friday wins. No reason to get into a long spill about what ifs from last time or what needs to be corrected. It's simple. Play the best defense you can and don't turn the ball over, you will win the football game. Execution will be paramount. Go Purples 31-28
