Walton's freshmen lost to Ryle in a close contest (can't remember the score) on a night four of their players were in Louisville at a JV/Varsity game because it ended up being double scheduled. Otherwise, their games have been primarily double digit wins with liberal substitutions.

With the way SK has played recently, there is definitely more parity in this district. Any of the four teams could qualify for regions, but I would lean toward SK & WV. Walton is improving with each game though.

You may want to reserve judgment on that until you see WV's freshmen team. CC definitely has a talented team, but many of these players have met many times on the AAU circuit & it is typically a battle. Hopefully they will meet in the frosh tourney at the end of the year, since they aren't scheduled to meet during the regular season.

How many freshman coaches have coached at all levels including being a varsity head coach, who by the way led his team to a regional championship & a state tournament appearance? How many freshman coaches have helped to coordinate an entire school system's AAU program 1-8 & volunteer to coach elementary boys & girls teams while coaching their freshman teams, without pay mind you, and will stay late after practice or provide quality individual instruction without asking for compensation? I can only think of one. Dan Sullivan at WV. Regardless of x's & o's, & he's very good at those, I would say he's the best in the area, hands down! I have also been impressed with Coach Goetz at St. Henry. Haven't seen some of the others mentioned yet this year.

WV has 8 freshman playing JV & 4 dressing varsity. Four of the players have played together since first grade. In addition Coach Sullivan goes 11 deep most games & spreads the game minutes around to allow all the players to develop. Even with that, they are undefeated & typically are up 15 to 20 points on area teams when the starters are completely taken out if the game is out of reach or they are preparing for a jv game. These guys can all play, but what makes them special is they play as a team. Seven of them (along with one other player) played a competitive AAU schedule last year & won or placed in several tournaments including KY's D1 division. They are a tight knit group & are good "kids".

Holy Cross beat Beechwood in double OT. They will play St. Henryin semis, Walton plays New Cath.

Winners today in Latonia: Holy Cross beats Ludlow Beechwood beats Brossart St. Henry beats Dixie Walton beats Ryle Holmes beats Boone Co. (I think) New Cath plays Bellevue Monday.

Is the tournament finished yet. If not, is there a schedule, I might like to go.

Miles, Grubbs, & Jones started JV for Walton in a 3 point win over Dixie. Pardee was 6th man after just getting back from sickness. Bonne & Schultz both saw minutes. Six freshmen getting lots of JV minutes & possibly more down the road. WV's freshman team should be SOLID. JV not bad as well.

Exciting game tonight by two quality freshmen teams. I would agree with some of the comments from above. #34 Jake Sherron is a nice back with good speed & cutting ability. Tyler Wagner is a quality player, solid running back with good speed & strength (scored first touchdown tonight), excellent hands as a receiver, & a good cover corner. Dylan Doverspike is a sufficient fullback (scored second t.d.), a very solid linebacker (hit one kid so hard his helmet came off & had an interception), & an excellent punter/kicker for a freshman. Extra points are automatic & helps BW gain good field advantage over opponents. For Cov Cath, McGinnis is a good athlete. He has good speed, strength, and is a capable fill in at QB for Coldiron. #2 is also a solid backup QB with a nice passing touch & #89 is a quality receiver with length. Good luck to both schools the rest of the season.

Lloyd should have an outstanding freshman group. They went undefeated in middle school. Also, Walton has a strong group, 4 freshman are receiving significant varsity time, but they have no freshman team. Freshman only play J.V., varsity or both.

They lost two solid freshmen to Beechwood & some sophmores decided not to play this fall. Hard to have that, but especially at a small school like WV. Bad news is this is a down year, good news is the young players are getting experience & have some talent. They should be fine once they start their district games.
