  1. Very confused by this post. I have been to about five Cooper games this year, six if you include tonight. First you talked about unnecessary adjustments? What did Cooper do different tonight on defense than any other game. It looked like to me Cooper aligned exactly the same this game against formations as in other games. They used both three man and four man fronts like usual. There was only one play tonight where it looked like Cooper was not in the right spot and that was on the second touchdown. Other than that the big thing was Cooper struggled tackling tonight more than any game I have seen them play. Then the play right before the half Cooper had great coverage and the receiver makes a great back shoulder catch. It was just a great play by the other team. Sounds like your just looking for stuff to complain about. As for the player. I know I much rather have a coach that is more on the side of disciplining to much than not much at all. That penalty you speak of which a huge play in the game Cooper just scored and was within five and had Pulaski pinned deep and had the momentum and was going to be third and long. Instead the player gets that penalty and Pulaski scores on that drive. At that point in the game no matter what happened the player has to know better than to say something. Its kind of a sad thing and shows where we are in society these days when people now complain about a coach having to much discipline in how he runs a team.
  2. What was interesting that they chanted that? After the close regular season game there is no reason for them to not be excited about it. Its a great thing to see Newport and its cheering section truly believing in there team. Good for Newport, there is nothing bad about that.
  3. I don't see it as two bad teams at all. I think its two good teams playing, but one of them is just playing much better right now.
  4. Nice win by Dixie. I went to this game thinking I was going to see a great game, but instead it was basically dominated by Dixie.
  5. I may be wrong however if Scott beats Conner then that does not help Cooper in terms of getting a one seed. In fact if Scott beats Conner then that will lock up the 1 seed for South Oldham. There wouldn't be a three way tie now, and so South Oldham would get the one since they beat Cooper. It actually makes it very simple if Scott beats Conner, because that will lock everyone into their seeds. The tiebreaker and the last game of the regular season only comes into play if Conner beats Scott. 1. South Oldham 2. Cooper 3. Scott 4. Conner The tiebreaker and the last game of the regular season only comes into play if Conner beats Scott
  6. I would have agreed a few years ago when they first put this offensive system in. However after seeing their team the last two years, I do believe they have the players now to start running a different offense such as a spread. They seem to have a solid line, and very good skill players. They just will need to develop their QB's to do it. Its not surprising the two best teams they played this year, their offense didn't do much. So for them to get over that hump, that offense probably would need to change some.
  7. No body once said it was ok for those things to happen because they are an inner city school. The problem was her saying like she knew that it wouldn't be addressed, like it would be at NCC. Which is wrong because she has no clue if it was addressed or not. As stated I can almost guarantee you can switch coaching staffs, and NCC would look like the discipline team still even with the Newport coaches. While the current NCC coaches could go to Newport and do the same discipline they do at NCC but probably still would have the same things happen on the field as the current coaches. People act like its such an easy fix, but as I stated at NCC the culture of the program has already been established for many years before the current coaches got there. Its a whole culture change that has to take place before you completely see the results. So the Newport coaches could do the same discipline as NCC coaches and if not more. However when people see them it may not be noticeable yet because it will take time. That's why its unfair to say NCC coaches are doing it right, and acting like the Newport coaches aren't doing anything to address it. Especially when that person has no idea. Perception is not always reality.
  8. Very good list! I have seen Cooper twice, Conner, CovCath, Ryle, Highlands, and Simon Kenton's freshman teams play. I know Cooper's Schlarrmen sorry if I misspelled it only played a few freshman games and got pulled up and now starts Varsity. Based off what I have saw I wouldn't put Walters on the list for top 10. He is a good player, and looks the part however he is not as dominant as others. The Maile kid for CovCath looked very good at linebacker. Also whatever the name is of the Conner freshman QB should be in the top 10. He IMO has been the best QB I have seen this year at the freshman level.
  9. You said you're a woman correct? So I assume you haven't coached football then at an inner city school. However that is good that you have coached at inner city school for some sport. So first of all you have to realize that football is a different game than other sports, because it is a violent sport. Second since you have coached at an inner city school then you would also know that it is a process, because its a whole climate change that a coach has to change. Its not a quick one or two year fix. Which I believe this is what only his second year there correct? Things do not get fixed right away at an inner city school, it takes time. You talk about what the NCC coaches do. Well haven't the last few coaches came from working under previous coaches at NCC? So they have not had to go in and change the culture of their program, the culture of the program and the way it has ran has already been established. So every kid in that program from day one knows the expectations because all the kids above them already know it and follow it because that is all they know. I will say this and I can almost guarntee this. You can switch coaching staffs right now, and the NCC program would still look like its coached right and with discipline. While at Newport it would still look like things aren't getting changed from the outside looking in, even if those NCC coaches did the exact same thing at Newport as they do at NCC for discipline. Its going to take a whole culture change, and success for the kids to buy in. This coach I believe is in his second year. If its still going on in year four and five after full classes have played four years under him and its all his players then you can say something. So it is very unfair for you to say what you did, and say nothing is being done at Newport while the NCC coaches do take care of things. So as I said you're are complaining about these posters and what they are saying, and you are coming off just as bad now as them with what you have said. Which makes you not so different than the people you are complaining about right now.
  10. True SK is good at playing four quarters and finishing the game, against one or two win teams.
  11. You're being a little bit of a hypocrit don't you think? In the above post you act like you know exactly what and how Newport's coaches will respond to the players actions, even though you really have no idea and just think you do. Yet you get on another poster for saying NCC had bad attitudes, and try to say how do they know since they weren't on the field? So is it just whatever best suits your argument for what is allowed to be said and real? Unless you coach at an inner city school, you really have no room to act like you know how or what the coaches do about it. And is very wrong to claim like NCC's coaches handle that stuff correctly, and the Newport coaches wouldn't. Especially when you have no real idea. I have no dog in this fight. However your team won the game correct? So what does it matter if people want to complain about the refs? You are quick to attack what these posters are complaining about, and now your coming off just as bad and whining about their whining. It seems to me your not so different as you think. So just leave it as it, who cares if they want to blame the refs. Don't lower yourself like you have and now act the same.
  12. I have no idea how he is, because I have never heard of him before.
  13. The way the system is now is honestly the most fair. It doesn't penalize teams who play a tougher schedule, and doesn't reward teams if they play a weak schedule. It rewards teams who do play a tougher schedule and gets wins against those other winning teams. Just like the year with Cooper, it was just very bad luck with how it worked out for them. Since Conner and South Oldham happened to have more wins against teams that also had a lot of wins. This system makes it to wear who you play does matter because you need to beat those teams that also have winning records. I would say the chances of a 9 and 1 team ended up as a third seed is very rare, but just so happened to have everything play out right that year for it to happen. At the end of the day it worked out well for Cooper being the three seed.
  14. Agreed! I usually try to attend the high school game that I think will be the best one of the week. I am thinking that this week I will be at the Ryle vs CovCath game, because I think it should be a great one. Ryle had a tough year last year, but the CovCath game was one they had won and let it slip away. So it should be a great game this year, and a game Ryle has a good chance to win.
  15. I have no real dog in this fight. I just know going into the game a lot of people talked highly of Ryle and how they would win. The game I saw Cooper definitely looked like the better team and the end result showed that. I didn't realize then that Cooper had such a young team and most of their guys were making their first varsity starts and still won. So you mentioned Ryle's improvements, then you have to assume Cooper has also improved greatly too with all their guys now having experience. If they played again it would probably be another low scoring hard fought game, but that edge would go to Cooper since they have showed they can and did win that type of game already. I do believe Ryle will keep showing how much improved they are though, and will surprise in 6A.
  16. If you think Ryle is 4th or 5th at this point, then does that mean you think Cooper is 3rd or 4th at this point? I have made it to a lot of 5A and 6A games this year, and I love the improvement in Ryle. However I still dont see them being able to beat Cooper. Ryle yes was learning a new system to start the year, and has gotten better since then. However if I am correct Cooper had the majority of their team making their first varsity starts ever that game and still won. They have gotten better too with the experience they have gained even while dealing with all their injuries.
  17. Great game by SK! I should have sent to the Cooper/Conner game.
  18. Usually looking a JV team is a way to possibly judge the future, in this case I don't think you can judge Conner's future off a JV game. From what I understand Conner's Varsity team is mostly sophomores and juniors who start. Which is very similar to I believe Coopers varsity who starts mostly sophomores and juniors. I wish I would have chose to go to last night's game instead of SK and Campbell. It should be quite a war the next few years at the varsity level the next few years, with both teams being so young.
  19. It was a great game to see! Highlands was on the other end of this earlier this year, when they stopped Cooper at the one yard line to win the game.
  20. True but even when NCC and Brossart play on a Saturday, they usually still play it at night right? When teams have to play at CovCath on a Saturday, it is during the day correct? And since CovCath gets to do that for each home game, they are better prepared for it.
  21. A good night for football. I got to see Cooper's freshman for the second time this year, and Conner's for the first time. Conner's QB was really impressive and was spreading the ball around and was right on the money on deep passes. #28 seemed to be every where on defense for Conner. I was looking for Coopers freshman QB #3 during the game who really impressed me last week, and a parent told me he got moved up to Varsity this week because of injuries and is why he didn't play. He is a solid player. The backup QB didn't look as mobile but still did a good job and made some nice passes to #6. Overall a good game by both teams on a nice night for football. Hopefully tomorrow is just as nice when I attend the Beechwood vs. Franklin County game.
  22. I got to see this game tonight and I was very impressed by Scott, I honestly though Newport would win this game. Scott showed they are going to be a tough 5A team for people to beat.
  23. I decided to attend the Newport vs Scott game, however I hate when I see post like this because what is the point in saying it? On those 5 turnovers did Campbell County players fumble while running all alone and without being touched? Or what if the turnovers were interceptions, did the other teams defense throw them to themselves? Majority of times turnovers are forced, so what is the point in saying it? If Campbell did have 5 turnovers, then I am sure Cooper people could say well if they capitalized on those turnovers then the game could have gotten out of hand in Coopers favor. Or you can say well if CC didn't play defense so well then this game could have gotten out of hand with Cooper winning, etc. You can make arguments probably for both that says the game could have gotten out of hand. Or simply say what it sounds like to me and that is it was two pretty even teams and Campbell was the one that came out on top while playing at home by playing a little better overall.
  24. I can't think of his name but whoever #6 was for Cooper also had a solid game.
  25. Based on the threads on here both of these teams have been in exciting games the last two weeks. CovCath and Dixie went down to the last play last week, and same with Cooper against Highlands last week. Enjoying some freshman football during the week and now looking forward to seeing Newport vs Scott this Friday.
