  1. The Cardinals (7-2) pounded Dunbar (0-8) 42-8 Friday. Pleasure Ridge Park (6-2) held on for a 14-7 win over #9 Manual (3-5). Scott County and their wing T attack will give the Panthers trouble. Make it 21-7 Cardinals.
  2. Trinity faces Ballard for the District Three top seed. The Rocks come in at 9-0 and the Bruins are 5-3. Trinity beat Seneca 42-0 and Ballard took down Jeffersontown 55-13. Trinity owns a 45-5 lead in the series that began in 1972. The last Bruins victory (14-12) came in 1995. The Rocks own 25 consecutive wins, including two in 2016 (55-0 and 63-20). Trinity may have a more difficult time recording a shutout this week, but a running clock is still expected.
  3. St. Xavier managed a field goal on their opening drive for their only offensive score. The Tigers scored on a kickoff return after Fern Creek TD on a nice 40 yard bomb. I am not sure what Fern Creek staff was thinking. Fern Creek threw an interception that was returned for a 45 yard touchdown just before half for a 17-3 St. Xavier lead. Fern Creek kicked to the same Noah Malubay and he returned it for another St. Xavier touchdown. The Tigers Evan Walker returned a fumbled handoff 10 yards for a touchdown. Fern Creek did not come close to an offensive score.
  4. I was a fantastic day at Fairdale. The Trinity team now prepares for a trip to Elder next Saturday. I really enjoyed how Coach Magre made sure EVERYONE got in today, includeing crowd favorite #86 "Peanut"
  5. Now the varsity can go for a sweep on Friday.
  6. No. I am all for Jefferson County returning to the kingpin of big schools as it was before 1975 and the state at large public schools insisting to play in a new large school division with Trinity, St. Xavier, DeSales.... There are not enough private schools in Kentucky to warrant a separate division. Just as there are not nearly enough schools to warrant 6 classes.
  7. I quit attending U of L football due to alcohol abuse by many of their novice and veteran fans. Trinity/St. Xavier warn everyone by letter who orders game tickets for their annual clash. Trinity has a large posting to warn folks on its website about proper tailgating-alcohol free! I understand alcohol may be consumed by a few adults- St. Matthews Police are watching- discretion must be practiced. If a student is caught drinking, it is going to be a long night.
  8. You must evaluate your talent and choose your system accordingly. I'd prefer the spread offense because you will attract more offensive players due to it being more fun! Better skill people, better linemen-more interest and knowledge: many successful college programs utilize the spread attack. You must have the skill people to run the attack. Passing game is not learned overnight.
  9. This sounds like a great idea. The programs in question are hurting and if they can get back to being competitive, they can always choose to rejoin the pack chasing the rings and trophies.
  10. The 1917 season was followed by a two year hiatus by the Tigers. Elizabethtown High School is partially responsible for this abrupt break for St. Xavier football. First St. Xavier team captain was a Hoosier. He had to travel by boat to get across the Ohio River in those days!!!!:thumb:
  11. All district games are mandated by the KHSAA. If you choose not to play for district, you may play any 10 games you want. People don't always understand Trinity playing Seneca. Trinity must play Seneca because they reside in District 3. Years ago, Western tried to get permission to forfeit a playoff game to Trinity and the KHSAA denied approval. The KHSAA also warned Western they would be fined and possibly face probation if they failed to show up. Instead of 33 teams in 6A, I'd like to see 24 playing for the state title. Currently, it is a year-to-year decision by each school. I do not think it is every two years.
  12. There are several teams in each class that have no shot at winning a state title or even a playoff game. The schools could choose not to play for the state title and form their own "league" and compete among themselves. I can name Jeffersontown, Seneca, and 5 winless Class 6A teams to start the list. I am not trying to be a jerk about this. Some of these schools simply do not have the talent and the resources to field a team capable of winning a district, let alone the state title. This list would include teams that have "scheduled" a few wins versus smaller programs. What are your thoughts?
  13. Make it Dragons 28-7. The South Oldham QB is one of the better players in the Commonwealth.
  14. Central Hardin is 4-3 having lost 3 of their past 5. Meade County is 4-4 and enters this contest on a three game losing string. Both squads lost to Christian Academy of Louisville (with Carr at QB). The Green Wave lost to John Hardin 35-28 while the Bruins defeated the Bulldogs 27-12. You have to go with Central Hardin. I predict a 28-14 win for the Bruins.
  15. Male score with 7:59 remaining in the game on a 8 yard touchdown pass. Q Wright experienced a lot of success rushing the ball up the middle on the Tigers tonight. Male used two QBs as did St. Xavier. I do not believe any of the four will start varisty next season.
  16. St. Xavier defeated the Male Bulldogs 14-7 on a pick six returned 65 yards in the third quarter. This bunch of Tigers did not include juniors Andre Coleman or Keegan Sullivan which made a huge difference in the Tigers (lack of) offensive production. The lone St. Xavier TD came on a nice 45 yard pass completion in the second quarter. Male turned the ball over on downs at least three times inside the Tigers 10 yard line. Apparently, the Bulldogs do not have a JV kicker of note. The Male kickoffs were not pretty. Male avoided the possible controversy of having players/fans take a knee during the National Anthem by not playing National Anthem AT ALL!!!!! The best play from my viewpoint was my purchase of a Bulldog Burger prior to the opening kickoff.
  17. I am surprised this is a 3A contest. Where have the students gone?
  18. Why is this titanic struggle taking place on Thursday? KHSAA Scoreboard does not reflect this contest as a Thursday game.
  19. Are you kidding me? The BluegrassPreps faithful have the Camels spoiling the Pioneers undefeated season and taking the district title as well?
  20. Class 6A Notebook 10/9 The BluegrassPreps voters chose wisely again this past week. In 6A Poll threads for ranked teams last week, the voters were a perfect 3 for 3. The #4 ranked St. Xavier Tigers (6-1) beat the #9 Manual Crimsons (3-4) 56-34 at historic Manual Stadium. The Scott County Cardinals (6-2) beat the #10 Douglass Broncos (5-2) in Georgetown 55-21 to stay at #2 in the BGP rankings. The Pleasure Ridge Park Panthers (5-2) beat home standing and the current #7 Butler Bears (5-3) 24-21 and remained at number five. The season total for winners picked in threads with polls is 47 of 52 for 90.0% accuracy for 2017. The #1 Trinity Shamrocks and the #7 Simon Kenton Pioneers are the only two undefeated in the Commonwealth’s largest football class. These teams continue the march to their probable state quarterfinal matchup. This will take place on November 17 at Trinity’s Marshall Stadium. The balance of Week 7 results involving current Top Ten 6A teams: Trinity (8-0) beat Eastern (3-4) 45-0 to remain atop the 6A rankings. Male (7-1) beat Bryan Station (0-7) 37-6 and maintained their number 3 ranking. #6 Simon Kenton (8-0) travelled to Boone County (1-6) and beat the Rebels 64-0 and moved up one spot. Ryle (5-2) went on the road and defeated Cooper (0-7) 34-14 and stayed at #8. In games of teams to watch in 6A from Week 7: Ballard had an open date and stayed just outside the Top Ten. Campbell County (5-2) beat Conner (4-3) in a road tilt 54-28. Tates Creek (5-2)beatMadison Central (3-4) 17-10 in a game played in Lexington. Central Hardin (4-3) also had an open date and Henry Clay (3-4) defeated Dunbar (0-7) in a home game 48-6 to climb back into consideration. Games of note: ranked teams with threads and polls for Week 8 3. Male (7-1) at #4 St. Xavier (6-1) 5. Pleasure Ridge Park (5-2) vs. #9 Manual (3-4) 6. Simon Kenton (8-0) vs. #12 Campbell County (5-2) 7. Butler (5-3) vs. Eastern (3-4) 8. Ryle (5-2) vs. #14 Conner (4-3)(Oct.14) Please cast your vote and add your comments to these threads. In Week 8: Trinity plays winless Seneca (0-7) in Marshall Stadium. The Rocks are 15-2 versus the Redhawks in the series. The first game played between these two squads was the 1968 AAA State Championship game. The game ended with Trinity ahead 29-18 before a reported 13,500 at Fairgrounds Stadium. Seneca’s last win in this series was a 34-33 victory in 2003. Trinity has 10 consecutive wins since the 2003 contest. Look for a 35-0 halftime lead for the Shamrocks and a running clock early in the third quarter. A reduction in length of quarters is a distinct possibility. This is a district game and is mandated by the KHSAA. New #10 Douglass hosts the 2A Hancock County Hornets. Hancock County is 4-3 with losses to 2A Owensboro Catholic 43-8, 6A Daviess County 63-28, and 6A Ohio County 37-8. The Broncos have 5 wins versus 2 losses. The Douglass losses were to 2A Danville 36-0 and Scott County 55-21. Look for the Broncos to put this one away early as the Lexington team has a huge advantage in football talent. Other games to watch include Ballard (4-3) at Jeffersontown (3-5), Tates Creek (5-2) at Clark County (5-2), Central Hardin (4-3) at Meade County (5-3), and Henry Clay (3-4) at Bryan Station (0-7). My predictions for winners of these games include Ballard 28-14, Tates Creek 42-14, and Henry Clay 49-21. The district leaders in Class 6A: 1. McCracken County (3-0) odds on favorite 2. North Hardin (1-0) too early to call (three team district) 3. Male and St. Xavier (2-0) play this Friday at St. Xavier 4. Ballard and Trinity (2-0) play October 20 at Ballard 5. Ryle (1-0) too early to call (three team district) 6. Simon Kenton (1-0) too early to call (three team district) 7. Scott County (3-0) odds on favorite 8. Tates Creek and Lafayette (1-0) play October 20 at Tates Creek
  21. The Ryle Raiders enter this game 5-2 and have won 5 of their past 6. Ryle beat Cooper 34-14 this past Friday. The Cougars are 4-3 in 2017 and have 1-2 in their past three contests. Conner lost to Ryle 42-28 in 2016. I look for Ryle to steam roll over Conner 35-7 running behind their strong offensive line.
