  1. Review where the voters work/live and you'll understand how /why some of these teams received votes. The AP doesn't want to make this ranking heavily Jefferson County. Lexington schools are not that strong in general. Simon Kenton does not beat Scott County. I am not convinced the Pioneers would take PRP down.
  2. Does your favorite team work with local sporting goods dealers to choose their uniforms? Do the players have any influence on the brand /style chosen? Trinity had a deal with Adidas through Shively Sporting Goods. They recently switched to an out of town company with NIKE as their suppler for most sports except Ice Hockey. NIKE does not manufacture/sell Ice Hockey uniforms. Back in the day (1970s, 1980s, 1990s) Trinity football wore Russell Athletic jerseys and Champion pants. The coaches were convinced these were the best available and would last longer. St. Xavier has worn NIKE for several years and were the first in Jefferson County to wear football uniforms made in Japan. When NIKE started in the uniform business, the did not own a factory to manufacture uniforms. NIKE purchased a factory in Japan, and the Tigers had their Japanese. made uniforms. These were nice with sewn numerals, not screen-printed.
  3. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. I'd say the BluegrassPreps voters have seen more high school football games in person than the AP voters this season. I also like the 88% percentage of winners picked by the BluegrassPreps general population of the "feature" games in 6A.
  4. I guess the Rocks will simply have to do better. Back in 1977, Mayfield came out first ahead of Trinity and the head coach, Dave Moore, was wondering out loud during typing class how to get a game with the Cardinals.
  5. My goodness, do without the alcohol for a couple of hours. As far as I know, it is not sold at any youth football event in Jefferson County. It is most definitely not sold at any high school event. U of L is a different story as 50% of their concessions are alcohol related.
  6. Three unbeaten teams remain in Class 6A. Trinity and St. Xavier meet this Friday guaranteeing one fewer undefeated teams next week. Simon Kenton hosts Class A #1 power Beechwood. In Class 6A Poll threads last week, the BluegrassPreps faithful were 4-1. This brings the season total to 36 of 41 or 87.8%. Henderson County (2-4) thrashed Ohio County (5-1)48-0. The Eagles win streak came to an abrupt halt as predicted by the BluegrassPreps voters.Simon Kenton (6-0) rallied late to defeat Highlands (2-4) 35-30. Male dispatched Butler 35-6. St. Xavier handled Pleasure Ridge Park 35-21. In the only game BluegrassPreps voters missed, Conner(3-2) surprised Newport Central Catholic (3-3) 35-27. The feature games this week include #12 Campbell County (3-2) vs. Mt. Healthy (OH) (2-3); #7 Ryle (4-1) vs. Cathedral (IN) (2-4); #8 Butler (4-2) vs. #9 Manual (3-2); #4 Male (5-1) vs. #5 Pleasure Ridge Park (4-1); #1 Trinity (6-0) vs. #2 St. Xavier (5-0) at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium. Please see game threads with polls for more details. Other Class 6A games of note: 3. Scott County (4-2) at Henry Clay (2-3): The Cardinals should roll in this one. The 48-0 opening game loss to Tates Creek by the Blue Devils is difficult to overlook. Scott County has scored less than 28 points one time in 2017, a 28-14 loss at La Salle (OH) in Cincinnati. 5. Pleasure Ridge Park at #4 Male: The Panthers will try to bounce back from the 35-21 loss versus #2 St. Xavier. PRP quarterback B.J. Robinson passed for 356 yards and one touchdown against the Tigers. Senior wide receiver Shannon Bishop was on the receiving end of 5 of Robinson’s throws for 188 yards. In the 35-6 win over Butler, Male as a team, rushed for 264 yards and passed for another 144 yards. Male has dominated the series in recent history including a 46-3 victory in 2016. 6. Simon Kenton at 1A #1 Beechwood (4-1): This could be a dangerous game for the Pioneers. Scoring 14 points in the final 2:36 of the game was an outstanding effort. The Tigers may prove to be a more difficult squad to defeat at home. Beechwood’s only loss was to 5A #1 Covington Catholic. Simon Kenton’s senior QB Matt Shearer played a part in all five touchdowns versus Highlands. He passed for three scores and ran for two more, including the game winner with 14 seconds left in the game. 7. Ryle vs. Cathedral (IN) will be seen on ESPNU at 8PM on Friday. This is an outstanding opportunity for the Raiders to promote themselves on a national scale. This is a three-hour advertisement for Northern Kentucky and the City of Union. The Cathedral Fighting Irish boast an excellent football tradition from Indianapolis. A victory in this game by Ryle will add to the reputation of Kentucky high school football. 10. Ballard (3-3) at Seneca (0-5): The Bruins are coming off a 20-14 win over Eastern (2-3). The Redhawks suffered a 42-0 setback to Manual. Seneca has scored 22 points in their 5 games while allowing 210 points. 11. Douglass (4-1) vs. Bryan Station (0-5): The Douglass Broncos are on a four game winning streak since their opening 36-0 defeat at the hands of Danville to open the season. The 51 player Broncos roster includes 6 freshmen and 16 seniors as the school looks to turn some heads in their inaugural season. During the win streak, Douglass is scoring 44 points per game while allowing 13 points per contest. Bryan Station is winless in 5 games this season. They are allowing 51 points per game while scoring 13 points per game. 13. Tates Creek (4-1) at 2A #1 Danville (6-0): The Commodores only loss came at the hands of Douglass 49-22 in the second game of the season. Tates Creek has allowed 19 points in their four victories while scoring 151. The Admirals have been tested twice in 2017. Boyle dropped a 10-7 decision and Waggener fell 49-46 to Danville. The 2A school has a great deal of football tradition and will be favored to win this matchup.
  7. The fact Simon Kenton is ranked so high may be "comicial" based on their lack of strength of schedule. The PRP loss was a "quality" loss. The Pioneers "best" win was the 13-6 over Conner. The win over Meade County loss some impact when John Hardin knocked them off. Highlands, Bryan Station, Dixie Heights, and Cooper are not high achieving teams this season. BluegrassPreps voters take these rankings very seriously. I firmly believe each of the top five in Class 6A rankings would handle Simon Kenton.
  8. This a ludicrous explanation by the official. I have never seen a penalty call or non-call made based on whether or not a player is a starter or a substitute. This official should be suspended for the rest of this season at the very minimum.
  9. I understand Coach Wolford stated Metzmeier has a serious knee injury. We'll see how Moretti fairs Friday.
  10. I believe St.Xavier raised their record versus PRP to 20 wins and 0 losses. Lots of tickets available for the Tigers next game. :-)
  11. Many teams in Jefferson County have 10/27 open. This includes Trinity. I will be at Paul M Young Field in Thomas More Stadium early for this one.
  12. ESPNU at 8pm. I would enjoy the Raiders adding to the Irish woes......but.....it will be tough!
  13. Three team district guarantees the 'Neers make the playoffs. :-) To answer the original question: NO!!!

  15. Male defeated Butler 35-6 to bring their record to 5-1. The sole loss was to #1 Trinity. The Bulldogs defeated Floyd Central (IN), Ballard, Doss, and Western in 2017. Senior Cameron Chesher, junior Garrett Dennis, and sophomore Crew Egan each contribute at quarterback for Male. Junior Henry Vestal is the Bulldogs leading rusher. Senior Ethan Bibb is Male’s key receiver. Pleasure Ridge Park lost to St. Xavier 35-21 in their district opener. This was the first loss of the season for the Panthers. Pleasure Ridge Park beat Valley, Bowling Green, Eastern and North Hardin prior to the St. Xavier game. Senior QB Bryant Robinson is the key to the Panthers’ offense. Senior Dewayne Hall is the lead running back and senior Michael Hopper is the key pass receiver. Male thrashed PRP 46-3 in the 2016 regular season and squeaked out a 27-24 win in the state quarterfinals. In 2015, Male won 44-0 and the series was suspended from 2007-2014.
  16. Butler lost to Male 35-6. The Bears record is 4-2 with the other defeat to 2A #2 DeSales. Butler’s wins were over Bullitt East, Western, Fern Creek and Doss. Sophomore QB Chaz Burks leads the Bears offense with junior running backs Jalan Ward and Eric Jackson splitting the rushing chores. Juniors Demontae Crumes, and Frank Caldwell are the leading pass receivers. Two freshmen are included in the roster of 84. Manual thrashed Seneca 42-0 and raised their record to 3-2. Sophomore QB Zach Rectenwald leads the Crimsons attack. Senior Marcis Floyd and junior Aidin Robbins are the leading ground gainers with Floyd the key pass catcher for the Manual team. Seven freshmen are included in the 50-player roster. Manual defeated Butler 28-0 in 2016, 47-0 in 2015, and 35-0 in 2014. Butler last won the 2012 in this series.
  17. Ryle is coming off an open week. Their most recent game was a 28-21 victory over Campbell County. Ryle is 4-1 with their lone loss to 5A #1 Covington Catholic. In addition to the quality win over the Camels, Ryle defeated Henry Clay, Boone County, and Highlands. Senior Easton Pilyer is the QB for the Raiders and SR. Jake Chisholm is the Raiders leading rusher. Cathedral (IN) defeated Jeffersonville (IN) 48-7 this past Friday to bring their record to 2-4. The Fighting Irish 2017 schedule to date includes a win over Bishop Chatard (IN) and losses to #2 St. Xavier, King (MI), Pickerington Central (OH), and St. Xavier (OH). The Cathedral roster includes 97 players . Sophomore QB Roman Purcell leads the Fighting Irish offense and has passed for more than 600 yards. Senior RB Markese Stepp, a Notre Dame commitment, is the leading rusher averaging 120+ yards per game.
  18. Campbell County had an extra week to prepare for Mount Healthy (OH). The Fighting Owls are 2-3 after their game with conference foe Ross (OH). The Fighting Owls defeated Ross (OH) 21-14. Mount Healthy’s QB Brandon Lamier has thrown for more than 500 yards and is the team’s leading rusher with more than 200 yards. The Fighting Owls carry a roster of 67, including 10 freshmen. Mt. Healthy (OH) competes in Division III. The Camels enter this game with a 3-2 record. Their most recent game was a 28-21 loss at #8 Ryle. Senior Austin Hoeh at QB leads Campbell County. Their leading rusher is senior Alex Dowds. Both defeats were by 7 points. The other loss was to Highlands. The victories came over Dixie Heights, Newport Central Catholic and Cooper.
