  1. Trinity and Highlands have cancelled tomorrow's (Saturday 9/23) freshmen game due to forecast for excessive Heat Index. The teams will try to reschedule later this season.
  2. Manual has the money. Director of Jefferson County Athletics and Activities won't allow it. Same goes for Male. Unfair advantage to those schools according to Mr. Wyman. Fayette County Public School system gave their football stadiums makeovers and all have artificial turf now.
  3. This was 30-0 at the half. New freshman kicker is sensational. He is more consistent at putting kickoffs in the end zone or near the goal line. He did miss a 42 yard field goal attempt. He was perfect on 5 PAT kicks. The other two points were the result of an intentional grounding call in the DeSales end zone. This group of freshmen may be very special with age. The Rocks travel to Highland Heights, Kentucky this Saturday for a 1PM tussle in the Bluebird's nest.
  4. Right on!!!! Every county in Kentucky treats attendance at public schools differently. Some have open enrollment. Some have reciprocal agreements with neighboring counties. Some have boundaries with exceptions allowed for attending a different school. Every child at a private school is there by choice (parents, guardians, or students choice). They are ALL "lured" away from public schools per se. Not one has to be there. Success "lures" more like-minded individuals. Opportunities for success in academics, athletics, or all sorts of activities attracts adults and students alike. The fact many private schools are succeeding reveals there are issues in the public system that may not be easily fixed. These may not be the fault of the public system but the situation screams for more attention. Read the Douglass website about the special programs set up at Lexington's newest school. A gentleman I work with grew up in rural Wisconsin. The public high school has a better reputation for helping students achieve success. The Catholic school was not perceived as better or even equal to their public counterpart.
  5. I hope sooner than later so the Rocks and Colonels can rekindle their series.
  6. I can't take credit for this description. I believe I heard it first on the cable broadcast of the 1990 game (had to purchase the VCR tape-it was not available on air locally). I believe St Xavier will beat Pleasure Ridge Park 28-7. The Tigers will grind it out because they have the big men up front to do so.
  7. Return to four classes. That is plenty for 217 football playing schools. I count 33 6A, 38 5A, 40 4A, 41 3A, 35 2Aa, 30 1A currently playing football. Let's go 54 A, 54 3A, 5 2A and 55 A. State finals done in two days. You could treat each class as a 72 team tournament with 18 byes in the first round. Everybody gets in.
  8. I do not enjoy cross-class, all encompassing rankings.
  9. Does your school offer discounts to Senior Citizens? Trinity does not. I was impressed when Ryle did during their scrimmage with the Rocks. I think it is a terrific gesture. I have always felt people in seats and spending money for programs, concessions, 50/50 raffles, etc. more than makes up for any discount given at the gate.
  10. St. Xavier has never lost to Pleasure Ridge Park. The Tigers are 19-0! That speaks volumes to me. The fact Trinity needs St. Xavier to come into the "Holy War" undefeated so 5,000-10,000 more fans show up on September 29 cannot be over stated.
  11. Yeah, I fell asleep at the wheel on the Ohio County nickname. I apologize and it was not meant as a slight to the Eagles. Here's hoping the remain unbeaten for weeks to come.
  12. Yeah, I feel asleep at the wheel on the Ohio County nickname. I apologize and it was not meant as a slight to the Eagles. Here's hoping the remain unbeaten for weeks to come.
  13. This is his last year (by his own choosing). As soon as the DeSales "Board" chooses his replacement, and he gives the new president the keys to the Colts Kingdom, he is "outta there"!
  14. Same goes for Jefferson County. The public schools set the rate and the privates usually follow their pricing schedule. $7.00 at he gate $6.00 if you buy at school ahead of time.
  15. The young Colts visited Marshall Stadium Monday evening. They used Coach Scroggins son (freshman) all the way versus the Rocks. DeSales appeared to have as many dressed as Trinity. The Colts did bring some other freshmen. The final score was the halftime score. Trinity scored on their opening possession and missed the PAT kick. A second long TD pass by Jake McKean (two point try no good) and a bad snap on a punt recovered in end zone(PAT kick good) were Trinity's next two scores. The Colts moved the ball between the 30s but were stopped on downs all but once in the first half. Trinity tacked on one more under QB Seth Jutz before the half (PAT kick good) for the final score. It was a clean game with Trinity picking up one 15 harder-I believe it was for mouthing off and not for a late hit.
  16. In Louisville many officials are local school graduates and often work their Alma Mater's games. Should they take themselves off the list to be considered for these games? I know one personally who scratches himself from his Alma Mater's games so their no possible accusation of impropriety.
  17. Congratulations to Dunbar on scoring their first points of the season.
  18. They're lurking just below the Top Ten in the "others to watch". The Fayette County teams have not shown a whole lot thus far this year in high school football.
  19. If Butler defeats Male, should Simon Kenton hop over the Bulldogs? If PRP suffers a close loss to St. Xavier, should the Panthers drop below Simon Kenton and the Male/Butler winner?
  20. I had a lengthy conversation with a Manual staffer a few days before this game They were not expecting a whole lot of success vs. Ballard and came away with the "W". I saw the same coach Saturday afternoon and he was on cloud nine. The Manual kicker guaranteed he would make the winning field goal if his offense gave him the opportunity.
  21. Five teams remain unbeaten n Class 6A. Oho County, Simon Kenton, and Trinity are all 5-0. Pleasure Ridge Park and St. Xavier enter their contest at 4-0. Only three games involving top ten 6A teams are included in a poll thread this week. These include #2 St. Xavier at #3 Pleasure Ridge Park; #5 Male at #7 Butler; #6 Simon Kenton vs. 5A #11 Highlands. #1 Trinity at Jeffersontown is not worthy of a poll. #4 Scott County vs. Bryan Station is certain to be a blowout. #9 Manual at Seneca is another mismatch. Ryle and Campbell County are both off this week. Of the “others to watch”, only Ballard vs. Eastern is expected to be a close game. Douglass will handle Dunbar. Tates Creek is off. Is Ohio County worthy of a poll vs. Henderson County (1-4)? Conner will be the next 6A team to lose to a 2A school in #6 Newport Central Catholic. 6A games of interest last week with polls included Trinity vs. Champagnat Catholic (FL); Scott County at La Salle (OH); Ryle at Campbell County; Simon Kenton vs. Cooper (play Saturday); St. Xavier at Central; Male at Western; and Ballard at Manual. The latter was the only game the BluegrassPreps voters missed. This brings the BGPers choosing the winning team total to 32 out of 36 for a 88.9% in 6A polls. Trinity has reached some lofty heights in the national polls. The Shamrocks out of state opponents have not experienced as much success as anticipated. Carmel (IN) is currently 3-2 after the 38-14 win over Lawrence North (IN). After losing 45-16 to current #1 Ben Davis (IN), Warren Central (IN) is now 2-3. Moeller (OH) stands at 3-1 after whipping Lafayette 55-6 on Friday night. Male is 4-1 after defeating 4A #10 Western. Trinity handed Champanat their first loss in three games in 2017. I believe Trinity to be the best in the Commonwealth and their annual paramount goal is to win the State Championship. The Rocks may not be a Top 25 team in America. St. Xavier is on a roll. The Tigers are 4-0 and have outscored their opponents 163-68. Their opponents have stumbled a bit in 2017. Cathedral (IN) now is now 1-4 after their 31-7 loss to Cincinnati St. Xavier. The Bombers will play St. Xavier at the end of the regular season. 5A #2 Bowling Green is now 3-2 after defeating Warren Central (KY) 47-0. 5A Fairdale is even on the season at 2-2. The Bulldogs beat Valley 19-6 on Friday evening. 3A #4 Central is 3-2 after suffering the 42-7 setback at the hands of the Tigers. The St. Xavier at Pleasure Ridge Park game will be interesting to say the least. The winner will take early control of District 3 with games versus Male and Butler looming in the near future. We will see how the “Holy War” between #1 and #2 plays out on September 29. If both teams are undefeated, the attendance should be among the best ever. Simon Kenton continues to make their case for a serious move up the BluegrassPreps rankings. The Pioneers have a legitimate shot to go undefeated during the regular season. Following 5A #13 Highlands, the Pioneers will face 1A #1 Beechwood, Boone County, #10 Campbell County and #8 Ryle the remainder of the schedule.
