BGP voters are pretty savvy.

I hate when this happens. I was lucky to choose attending the Male/Manual freshman game (I know coaches on both sidelines) over St. X/Butler.

This game was played this past Monday. Word on the streets was Male dominated this one. I understand Manual only has a handful of sophomores and filled in with some little used juniors and a few freshmen. Hopefully someone else can add some details.

Manual never trailed in this one. The halftime score held up to be the final score. Male scored on one 25 yard fourth down pass play. Manual scored one TD by air and two TDs via the run and added two 2-pt conversion runs. The Manual defense was very stout.

In 1974, the final season with AAA being all Jefferson County, ended for Trinity with a 3-0 loss in the semi-finals to St. Xavier. The Tigers won the regular season tilt 21-0. In 1975, Trinity fell to the Tigers 11-10 in the semi-finals in first year of 4A. The winning safety was recorded with less than 30 seconds to play on a snap over the head of the Trinity punter. These two victories by the Tigers capped the last back-to-back state titles for the green and gold. Head Coach Bill Glaser used this as a catapult into college coaching with Morehead State for one season and then with the University of Kentucky. Trinity's losses by a total of four points denied the Rocks from winning 6 consecutive titles in the 70s.

1997 Trinity team beat St. Xavier in regular season 9-0. Lost to the same Tigers 3-0 after a fumble by back up QB gave St. Xavier the ball deep in Trinity territory. The Tigers were pushed back 10 yards by the defense but kicked a field goal to win it and deny Coach Servino a title as a player and as a coach.

This makes things a little tough for the Ryle students......I see Chlorine B. Menefee Stadium seats 3,000. Please stock up on concessions. There is no good reason to run out of bottled water.

This occurred in two Trinity varsity games this season-Seneca and Jeffersontown. In addition to running clock-the third and fourth quarters were 8 minutes. I had it explained to me by athletic department personnel: if the other team asks, Trinity will agree to it.

I agree with your statement. Some o the "undercard" games should be entertaining before we all arrive at Kroger Field in December. St. Xavier versus Scott County or Ryle would be fun. Campbell County versus Eastern will be a good first round tussle.

Did Dr. Mullen(Trinity president) lift the "more than four hour by bus" travel ban? Gorman ended those negotiations 2 seasons ago. Sure, I'd love to see the Rocks face Gorman in Las Vegas. Years ago, Trinity had a parent offer to fly the team by charter plane($70,000 estimated) to west coast to face De LaSalle. Administration turned him down.

Now to be fair and balanced, the Chargers of Jeffersontown did put 6 on the board against the backups.

As stated in the 6A Notebook for 10/16, three districts are up for grabs. 2,4,and 8 will be decided this week. Therer is also a thread discussing all games with possible impact on playoffs this week.

The BGP voters have only missed five all season out of 57 games. The plenty of room comment is not what I asked. Did Simon Kenton make tickets available or are the Pioneers going to make the Ryle folks wait in long lines?

BluegrassPreps voters have been correct 91.2% this season on 6A polls.

Boyle County and Danville are both enjoying success. That is good news for Kentucky football.

I believe Kentucky could use the Indiana model for football playoffs. They have no districts. They use a blind draw by region Thee are some byes. Kentucky could easily do this. Number 1 seeds versus number 4 or in some cases #5 seeds would be much more random. And the lower seeds could end up with a home game versus a higher seed. Another option could be to limit each region to four districts. The number could be capped at 9-meanng only two non-district games for those teams. Place a minimum of 8 teams and only three non-district game would be needed to fill the schedules. Playoffs could include only top four or go with 6 with a bye for #1 and #2 seeds. That's 144 playoff teams.

Cantrall does not factor in Trinity's four wins versus Out-of-State competition. The same may be said about Litkenhous.

Yes, his track record was amazing. He won as an assistant at Durrett with his father. He had winning teams at Waggener. He had winning teams at Ballard. He had winning teams at Male. I suppose his only "failure" was at Jeffersonville (IN). I am hoping for a running clock without the shortened quarters. The second and third stringers for both sides deserve some time on the field.

This was a better game than expected. Central dressed 39 and agreed to play 10 minute quarters. The Rocks turned the ball over far too many times. Two fumbled punts, one of which was recovered by the Yellowjackets. A couple of interceptions in or near the goal line kept it close. An interception by the Rocks around the 35 yard line sealed the win for Trinity. Trinity had a couple of 40 yard bombs for TDs and Central had two as well. Trinity had a difficult time running the ball as Central loaded the box time after time. As a fan, I was very happy this game was added to the schedule. There is no place I'd rather be than watching the sun set on Marshall Stadium while a football game is in progress. The JV Rocks have one game left with the Fern Creek Tigers next Monday at Fern Creek..

There was some very tight voting this week. 2 points were all that separated three of the top ten teams from moving up one spot or down one spot. With three districts being decided this Friday, it promises to be an interesting playoff season.

The Panthers have played well this season. The Cardinals are on a slightly higher level and should take a win back to Georgetown. St. Xavier has regained their focus and will handle Butler on Paul M. Young Field. The Tigers played very well on both sides of the ball in their game versus long-time rival Male last week. Butler defeated Eastern last week. St. Xavier is simply better all around. Male will rebound against Manual this week in the Commonwealth’s longest running series. Talent usually wins games, especially when the coaching staffs are equal. The Crimsons are headed in the right direction under Coach Carmony. The Crimsons have not arrived yet. Even with several players out with injury, the Bulldogs have enough good players to win on both sides of the line of scrimmage. This may be a tight game score wise, with Male having the edge in the end. The game involving the #10 Frederick Douglass Broncos and the #15 Henry Clay Blue Devils is of note. A Broncos win would secure the number two seed in District 7 for Frederick Douglass in their first season of competition. Again, talent and the highly touted new coaching staff at Frederick Douglass gives the edge to the Broncos. Outside the top ten finds the Central Hardin (5-3) vs. North Hardin (3-5) contest is of most importance. This is for the District 2 title. I am going with the underdog Trojans due their slightly more dominant win over Meade County 40-26 on October 6. North has had two weeks to prepare for this titanic struggle and this gives them a slight edge as well. Tates Creek (6-2) is currently #13 in our 6A BluegrassPreps rankings. The Commodores take on defending state runner-up Lafayette (3-6) in a game deciding the District 8 winner. The Creekers are 2-0 in the district and are heavily favored over the Generals.
