  1. Not sure what you mean, softball44 ("And Brossart really!!!!). The game result was posted and then a camel idiot turned it into a Camel vent thread by questioning the selection (saying that nicely) of a couple young ladies selected to the All-Tourney Team.
  2. Heard the same thing of these two young ladies. I mean no offense to Calvary as they are and will be always fielding yound ladies to compete in varsity sports, and there's so much more to high school than athletics and I truly believe Calvary does it right in all aspects of high school...from an outsider looking in; but would love to have been able to watch Danye play (either in summer ball or on a larger high school's team) in basketball and softball. Merrin Kelly (i've heard as well she's an 8th grader) does not play like an 8th grader. Kudos to her and her future high school years. Campbell County's 8th graders are VERY nice players as well with some bright futures.
  3. Dwayne merkely from Calvary Christian, who has been a joy to watch in basketball and softball the past few years. Merrin Kelly pitcher from Scott. Mallory McGrath and becca Mitchell from Campbell county. And ashley Childress, riley orth and Amanda Lloyd from Brossart.
  4. Nice win by the Lady Stangs. Total team effort. Bottom of lineup started the scoring by getting on base. Orth and Childress had two solid games and were catalyst for getting on base. Not arguing that Schackelford wasn't deserving. But just as hard to overlook the offensive numbers that the top 3 hitters put up. For you to say you didn't know where Childress plays, well I know to discount everything you say on here. She was arguably the most consistent offensive player the last two weeks for us, and moving her into the leadoff spot has worked out very well for us. Orick is a very nice and solid player who also had two very nice games. I hope she has an amazing 10 region tournament. Coaches have a difficult decision at times to pick members for the tourney team...sometimes leaving off someone who was just as deserving.
  5. I know resources are an issue for high schools and playing field options, but I think we are doing a disservice to the girls by playing on fields with unreachable or no fences. The HR is a real part of the game and in order to compare true stats "across the board" every team should have the same or close capabilities. I wouldn't want short porches like at Bourbon County, but consistent dimensions would be preferrable. Maybe someone can confirm if there are minimum demensions for hosting districts, regionals for State?
  6. Without question...one bad inning...one bad play...one bad base-running mistake can cost you a "W"...
  7. I said it earlier in the year that I'd build any team around Ware as SS. I guess it depends on her stats at the time of the submissions and voting. I had heard her offensive numbers (i.e. avg) was down, but that's just what i had been hearing. She almost single handedly beat us later in the year. As Lawnboy mentioned, softball awards/voting has to be done so early in the season that maybe the voting results were based on the players' stats (for this season) instead of the overall value/impact that a player has on a game/team (or past years accomplishments). I'd still build a team around her in softball, basketball, and soccer. And if she played lacrosse I'd take her on my team too.
  8. So, on the W-V incident, ball was no where near the pitcher. It was hit towards the firstbaseman with a runner on 1b. I do not recall if the 1b actually touched the ball, but it went by her glove (definitely could have made a play on the ball). But the secondbaseman was ready to make a play and field the ball when it hit the runner. But because the firstbaseman had a chance to field the ball, then it is a "live" ball and the correct call was made that the runner was not out. I just had never seen that play very often. The Conner situation, the SS was definitely not making a play on the ball as it was a comebacker to the pitcher who fielded it cleanly. So it appears the correct call was made (totally realizing you were not there to see it play out). I'm sure if we'd have scored a couple runs after that then there'd be more attention on this...as it turns out no harm was done.
  9. Or, another situation that it could have been if looking at it differently. Again, it was hit back to the pitcher with runners on 1b & 2b. If the SS was going to second to field the throw on a "force play", and she collides with the runner advancing to 3b....is it interference/obstruction on the runner or SS?
  10. Situations/plays like this always intrigues me. I've played 25+ years of baseball (high school and college) and had never seen this play happen that happened in the W-V game. But a batted ball hits the base runner. I had always thought the runner was automatically out when it hits them directly. But because the ball went past the firstbaseman and then hit the runner before the secondbaseman had a chance to make the play, then the runner is not out. Then it happens in the College Regionals yesterday and they talk about the play and the defense had a chance to make the play. So i had never seen that happen very often in baseball but b/c softball infielders play in closer then I suppose this thing happens more often. But back to the interference/obstruction call in the Conner game...if the ball never makes it to the SS because the pitcher fields the ball...does the runner have the right of way in the basepath? And was the call made correctly on the field?
  11. Some of us do not know how this voting works, but for first team do they award the top 15 (or whatever that number is) to First Team no matter what position the player plays, or is it based on actual positions (where again whatever that number is the top two SS, top two second basemen, etc)?
  12. I would say the ball was not hit to the SS...
  13. The two teams might have diff of opinion. Ball was hit back to pitcher who fielded it cleanly. Shortstop broke up middle...runner broke to third and they collided. Field ump called defense interference/obstruction and awarded runners next base. Heard conner bench and fans wanting call to go other way but didn't hear much argument from Conner coaches. I think the call was correct since the ball never made it to the SS nor really was not in her direction unless it got past/through the pitcher. Was call correct based on this vantage point (understanding that you weren't there to see it)?
  14. Sims does it all for her team.....HR, 3B, 1B....and then her shutout performance in the circle. Mustangs collect just three singles but had a chance in the sixth with bases loaded. A two-out hit on a couple occassions could have changed the game.
  15. fastpitch98....sounds like you're bashing a few teams here. As stated above...Brossart was missing 3 starters...i wasnt going to take anything away from Walton for the win b/c I think they looked like a better team then their record indicated. And they looked better than we did definitely on Thursday night. Your camels have lost 6 of their last 7. Not sure of your motivation with your last two posts but look at all the NKY teams and you'll see anyone beating anyone else throughout this entire season....even at the top of the rankings. 10th region is and has been the same way this year. Anyone can be beat anyone, and any team can be beaten on any given night. The real season starts Monday for everyone, and the teams that play the better games will advance.
  16. Not much to write about on this front in this one...five-inning beatdown by the Bearcats on their Senior Night. Mustangs can only muster a number of hits...Childress, Lloyd (2b) and Maria Seiter 2b & single. Childress with very nice diving catch on a line drive and double off the runner was about the only defensive bright spot on the night. Didn't have the lineup for WV but the #2 batter hit a bomb to CF in the first to start the scoring.
  17. Glad we don't have to face her in the region...I don't know how she gets any pitches to hit with an open base. Got to make someone else beat you.
  18. Lots of wind-aided HRs in the Birdcage...I'm totally kidding here....that was a no-doubter by Graybill...there's not another hitter in NKY like her or even close to her. What a joy to watch play.
  19. That is the definition of a true "gamer". She's legit and I hope she picks a college that people in this area can still follow...or stay in state at UK and try to take the Cats to the next level in the SEC.
  20. Who pitched for the Crusaders? I said a week or so ago the Breds seemed to be hitting their stride now and are a scary team come region time.
  21. Head-to-head (in my opinion) should get factored in to a certain degree, but overall i would look at the resume year-to-date....haven't seen all these teams play yet but I'd say this poll is about right.
  22. NCC finding their stride and looking impressive lately....gotta include them in the 9th Region hunt....
  23. Vansmetal, i know you are new out here on BGP, but is your daughter in high school your oldest? Is this your first time in the rodeo for high school sports? I didn't read your posts as taking any shots at Holmes, just that you're surprised how a school as big as Holmes cant field a JV team. Reality is Holmes isnt that big anymore or as big as they had been back in the days. I have friends who coached teams at both Newport and Holmes and they have each stated as well everything they do/did for their players just to get them to games/practices or to have something to eat. I have the utmost respect for people who coach inner city youth and high school teams, and the players who come out for the teams. It's just a whole different environment.
