It can only be due to numbers ie not enough players. Holmes used to have a really solid team in the late 2000s when Mike Hughes and Andy Petridis ran the program. I saw them a lot as my daughter played for NDA.

Numbers, plain n simple.

Understand about not enough kids, just odd to find out when a game is scheduled, and a couple of days prior that there's actually no longer a team. No harm no foul, I'm assuming it was just forgetfulness.

MetalVan, I don't like to say much, but I do sometimes enjoy reading about softball since I was around the sport for four score and seven years...at least it seemed like that long. Sometimes while I'm waiting for my laxative to take effect, I read some posts for a laugh or two. But I didnt see the humor in something you said. It sounded like you were trying to take some shots across the bow of my former coaching profession. Ever coached inner city kids? Didn't think so. Sometimes we didn't know from week to week if we would even have a varsity team let alone a jv. I'm a might forgetful now, but I sure as heck wasn't back then. I had to forfeit a game once because four of my players were arrested on the way to one of my games. It happens in the city. And while Im here, did you really say a team who was dancing in a dugout made them look positive and focused? I feel a gurgling.

Maybe I shouldn't assume, but I would take a guess that varsity comes first for most head coaches, b/c they can only do so much in a day like the rest of us. So, I could see were games got scheduled in advance and come tryouts not enough girls to fill all rosters, but enough for varsity. So, while the coach is putting in the work to get varsity up and going, he forgets about the jv games that got scheduled or maybe he's hoping to have enough kids by then. I was just curious, and obviously I'm dumb to the fact about inner city softball players getting arrested. Also, I was at the St.Henry / Campbell County game and St.Henry was having fun and I thought they looked extremely focused on the field. I guess in your world you can't have both. I'll take my shot now, while you go back to gurgling.

Wow! A inner city school trying to do their best to keep kids off the street. And you rip on them.

Vansmetal, i know you are new out here on BGP, but is your daughter in high school your oldest? Is this your first time in the rodeo for high school sports? I didn't read your posts as taking any shots at Holmes, just that you're surprised how a school as big as Holmes cant field a JV team. Reality is Holmes isnt that big anymore or as big as they had been back in the days. I have friends who coached teams at both Newport and Holmes and they have each stated as well everything they do/did for their players just to get them to games/practices or to have something to eat. I have the utmost respect for people who coach inner city youth and high school teams, and the players who come out for the teams. It's just a whole different environment.

First of all, I didn't grow up around here so I know nothing of Holmes. And yes I'm new to high school sports around here. I'm all for kids playing softball to help better them or any sport for that matter. As far as I was concerned they could of had just enough for a jv team and maybe a kid couldn't show up to that game due to maybe a prior commitment like track or whatever else life might of brought them. In the end this is ridiculous to think I'm trying to rip on a school I have no idea about. I root for Campbell County cause I do have a kid that goes there. As far as Covington and it's so called inner city, is far from an inner city. Leave Northern Kentucky and go to Brooklyn or Chicago and you'll find the true meaning of a inner city if you dare. Also maybe it was a week notice to the coaches, but not the parents but regardless it doesn't matter how much of a notice. So they don't have the numbers, it's ok...really it's ok. By the way, it would be awesome for Holmes or a other team around here to kick butt at softball and go to state. If any body has read my previous post I'm all about northern Kentucky getting more involved in softball.

Don't sweat it Vansmetal, I'm sure you meant nothing by it. When you get teams that cancel or you see they are not playing many games, you have a lot of unstable homes in my opinion. It's not the coaches IMO, they have enough on their plate with their Team. It's about commitment and dedication, and when your home is very unstable, you don't have either of those qualities. Fortunately most of the kids on our team (I think) don't have all the worries: food on the table, getting to school, Mom or Dad in jail....Most of them have their studies and Softball to concentrate on. JMO
