  1. Actually we could all do better ourselves. While we can't control the newspapers we could post more info about the games and I am one of the most guilty offenders. I usually will cover seven or eight games a month as well as several boys games for my website and it would be easy to take five minutes and post a short summary on this message board. I will try to do better this year but sometimes I am guilty of being a "free rider" and just cruise the site for info and not give anything back.
  2. Joey Thacker has done an excellent job at Franklin County and has a good mix of veteran players and some very promising younger players in the pipeline that should keep the Lady Flyers competitive for several years. They have a good program at Elkhorn and some of those girls will be contributors. I am sure one of their goals this year will be to end Coach Jay Lucas' Woodford Co. stranglehold on that district and his consecutive district game win streak.
  3. Dunbar raced out to a 10-0 lead and were never threatened in a 67-37 victory over Shelby County. Megan LaRue and Cameron Howard led Dunbar with 14 and 13 points respectively. Chelsey Johnson and Ebony Rowe added 8 points each and Rowe pulled down a game-high 17 rebounds. This was a team effort as Dunbar played excellent defense and held a commanding edge in rebounds and forced 22 Shelby County turnovers. Raechele Gray led Shelby County with 15 points. The Lady Bulldogs have height, athleticism and have a deep bench with a lot of girls capable of playing quality minutes.
  4. Wireman, players heights drive me nuts as they are listed differently from program to program and from source to source. The worse I ever saw was at a Nike camp a player stated he was 6-41/2 and we actually saw him measured at 5-11 barefoot. I find some of the underclassmen have the ability to "shoot up" but I have seen players listed at four different heights in the same year.
  5. No offense taken mortgagegeek, I have been watching basketball for more years than I care to admit and some of the most notable players and games I have witnessed have involved your Mason County Royals. You have a right to be proud. One of the most memorable was watching Lofton playing AAU as a seventh grader and being absolutely sure that I was seeing something special. It is really nice when good things happen to such an outstanding young man. I believe this is going to be a great year in the Bluegrass and I am looking forward to some great games involving Miller and company. The Royals also have some good underclassmen coming up.
  6. The BlueGrassPreps staff does an excellent job of trying to give the people who work on the previews adequate time to collect the info. I have been involved in trying to preview regions and the coaches are so busy that it sometimes takes repeated email and phone calls to finally get the info. I am on my second round of emails and calls now and the info slowly but surely gets here. The staff for instance gives me a drop dead date of November 15th to get the info to them and there will always be a team or two that you will be finishing on the 14th. As usual you are waiting on the elgibility of transfers and then the injury bug. This extremely hectic time of the year really makes me appreciate coaches and all the very knowledgeable fans on this website.
  7. RB Cory Williams led the Bulldogs with 173 yards and 4 tds on 30 carries. QB Marquis Clay added 105 yards and 1 td on 18 carries.
  8. One interesting stat was that Highlands had 116 yards rushing on 28 carries after three quarters and ended up with 263 yards on 40 carries for the game. Josh Conner carried the ball 14 times for 139 yards, Clay Cecil 17 carries for 64 yards and Zach Hurtt 7 carries for 60 yards per WL Stats. Excellent second half for the Bluebirds.
  9. LCHS 1st Lane Pumphrey 38 yard field goal HHS 2nd Drew Bathiany 42 yard field goal HHS 2nd Clay Cecil 4 yard run (Drew Simons run) LCHS 3rd Shane Israel 6 yard run (pass fails) HHS 3rd Josh Conner 1 yard run (pass complete) HHS 3rd Zach Hurtt 6 yard run (run fails) HHS 4th Josh Conner 1 yard run (Bathiany kick)
  10. statmanhensley--great to hear from you. It is hard to believe that Johnna is halfway through her college career. It seems like yesterday she was in the 7th grade. I actually saw her little sister play earlier this year. Rockcastle County has several of the younger sisters of the team we followed for years making their mark on the game.
  11. Also let us not forget posters like ladiesbballcoach and others who pass on so much info to the rest of us. I often have thoughts or info on certain subjects but quite honestly sometimes get lazy and do not post. I'm sure I am not busier than some of the people who take the time to pass on the info. A special thanks to some of the posters that spend so much time to pass on valuable and interesting info to all the fans.
  12. I have a website at kyprephoops that carries game coverage of both boys and girls plus AAU coverage. Louis Meadows got me interested in the girls game a few years ago. Mr Meadows is a class individual who has worked tirelessly to promote the girls games . The website and newsletter that Louis and Chris Lovelace put out is a rich resource for anyone interested in the game. We are indeed fortunate to have these two gentlemen interested in the game as well as the message boards such as this one that allows us to share info about the game. Mr. Bolus and Mr. Underwood both run basketball camps in the state. Donna Murphy is past Miss Basketball, former coach at Lexington Christian Academy, and one of the best basketball teachers in the game.
  13. Sacred Heart ended LexCath's winning streak against in-state competition by defeating the Lady Knights 77-66 in overtime at LexCath. Elizabeth Campbell led SH with 34 points and 14 rebounds. LexCath was led by Natalie Novosel and Keyla Snowden with 23 points each. LexCath turned the ball over 29 times while SH was guilty of 27 turnovers. The score was tied 56-56 at the end of regulation but SH scored the first seven points in the overtime period.
  14. Two key statistics were Tates Creek scored 24 points off 20 Lexington Catholic turnovers. Tates Creek had 18 turnovers but LexCath could only convert into 6 points. Also Tates Creek held a 20-6 advantage on second chance points. Tates Creek held a 35-28 advantage in total rebounds. 6-4 Sr. John Watkins had a big night for the victors with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Mike Spalding added 11 points and 7 steals.
  15. I don't think anyone could overlook Emily Queen or Laura Terry for any honors, they are that good. However I believe it will be hard to overtake Rebecca Gray of Scott County. Scott County will be very good and she can light up the scoreboard and it helps that this North Carolina signee plays on a team with an uptempo offense that will probably put up 80 points per game. All three are excellent players and all appear to be excellent people as well. Good luck to all three this season.
  16. The JV games will each start one hour earlier than the respective varsity games to allow the coaches to use their JV players in the varsity contest as desired. Some of the top players expected to play in this event are: Listed alphabetically Whitney Ballinger 6-1 Sr. Carroll County Whitley Briggs 5-10 Sr. Fairdale Elizabeth Campbell 6-2 Sr. Sacred Heart Thia Gholson 6-1 Sr. Assumption Tia Gibbs 5-8 Jr. Butler Whitney Hanley 5-9 Jr. Bullitt East Lindsey Highbaugh 5-7 So. Hart County Tiara Hopper 5-10 So. Butler Megan Isaacs 5-10 Jr. Hart County Caroline Klein 6-1 Sr. Sacred Heart Monique Reid 6-1 Jr. Fern Creek Ceira Ricketts 5-9 Jr. Fairdale Elizabeth Schuler 5-11 Jr. Louisville Holy Cross
  17. Clark Jeter (6-0 170 SR) Henry Clay caught 10 passes for 209 yards and 5 TDs in a 43-42 victory over Scott County. Jeter's 19 yard TD pass reception with 1:24 remaining in the game tied the score at 42-42 allowing Chase Minnifield to kick the winning PAT.
  18. Clark Jeter was credited with 10 receptions for 209 yards and 5 touchdowns. His scoring receptions were for 95, 23, 8, 12, and 19 yards. The 19 yard reception came with 1:24 on the clock to give Henry Clay the victory.
  19. Kaelin Ammons (Franklin Co.), Victor Anderson (St. Xavier), Douglas Beaumont (Male), Kasey Clark (Russell), Avery Hibbitt (Bowling Green), Chase Minnifield (Henry Clay) and Nick Petrino (Trinity).
  20. The score was 35-14. Bryan Station led 21-0 late in the third quarter but Madison Southern scored twice to cut the margin to 7; 21-14 with 8:54 remaining in the game but Bryan Station tacked on two scores to settle the issue. Bryan Station had 13 first downs, 331 yards of total offense and was penalized 13 times for 79 yards. Bryan Station did not have any turnovers. Madison Southern had 19 first downs, 318 yards of total offense and was penalized 8 times for 47 yards. However Madison Southern had three passes intercepted and lost a fumble. Bryan Station was led on the ground by Terrel Combs who carried the ball 19 times for 126 yards and a 64 yard td run. Lance Morton completed 11 of 18 passes for 186 yards and two td passes. Jovan Dawson caught 5 passes for 68 yards with a td. T. Miller-Hughes caught 4 passes for 87 yards with a td. Wes Wilson led the defense with 5 solo, 4 assisted tackles and two interceptions. Josey Cruise had a big evening for Madison Southern with 9 receptions for 133 yards and a td. Cruise also carried the ball 3 times for 25 yards with a td. Jordan Blasdell led the defense with 4 solo and 6 assisted tackles. Statistics by WL Stats While Madison Southern lost a lot of talent they still have some playmakers left and turnovers did them in tonight. Bryan Station got off to a good start and he seems to have instilled a very positive attitude in his team.
  21. John Smith from Harlan can definitely light it up from downtown.
  22. Most of the so-called "top" players seem to end up at the "shoe" camps or the national AAU circuits. Bolus still gets some good players and several Kentucky players such as Jon Van Hoose (Russell) had good performances at the first camp this summer. Van Hoose has also had an excellent summer with the Derek Smith All Stars. I cover several events on my website including most of the AAU events at the Kentucky Basketball Academy. I wish I could cover more but I am a one man show. I really enjoy the valuable info that I get on BlueGrassPreps.
  23. Congratulations, a great player and from everything I have heard an even better person.
  24. ScottCountyFan as usual always responds with class. I know the Scott Co-LexCath game was a heartbreaker for him but he always sees the larger picture and I feel honored to know him personally. Congratulations to Coach Euton, she took some losses early to prepare her team for the competition and it worked.
