  1. The bad reffing didn't shock me since I was at the Cake Classic where it was also horrible!! I saw all the Beechwood games at the middle school & honestly didn't see bad calls against Beechwood!! I did see one against Conner when a Conner player pancaked a ball & the ref blew whistle before ball was down. The down ref corrected him & it was replayed. The refs on that court called a lot on net & lifts but nothing bad. I did however see a lot of disagreeing between refs. Just part of the game!!! Kudos to Highlands for overcoming all of that & winning!!!
  2. Congrats Lady Birds!! They looked good in the SK game I watched. What I noticed most from the JV tourney is a lot of these teams seemed to be mostly made up of freshmen players. A couple teams I saw that were older girls were Boone Co and SK. It also seemed like most of the players are also NKJV players. Glad to see so many young & talent players on the court!!!
  3. Does anyone know who is playing in this jv tourney & who is favored to win? Not much talk about jv teams but I think they are just as important & crucial to a program!!!
  4. The fact that this isn't her first transfer speaks volumes about both the parent & kid's priorities!! They are not school hopping for a better education!! If academics wasn't important, they wouldn't call it "SCHOLARship"!!!
  5. What always amazes me when I hear these transfer stories is the fact we are talking about HIGH SCHOOL!! I think as parents some people focus too much on the sport/athlete & not the education/academics!!! Transferring schools back & forth has to be hard academically!! And let's face it, as talented as she is what are the odds she'll play professionally? No one ever hears about the academic eligibility!!
  6. Haha...Oh no doubt she is fun to watch which is why I stayed to watch her play Conner after Cooper beat her!! She wasn't able to hit much past Cooper's block so I figured she'd have no problem against Conner. I think she may have been tired Friday night because Saturday she was a beast!! She's good all around but if she has a weakness I'd say it might be her lack of speed on defense!! Of course given her 6'4 size she can stretch longer than most to pass a ball!!
  7. I agree that girl can slam a ball like crazy but I disagree with the all around part. I felt her defense was slow & her serving very inconsistent!! She has been playing varsity since 7th grade because of her talent & size (6ft tall at 12!!) but her father is also on the volleyball coaching staff at UK so I'm sure she was bred to play!!!
  8. Cooper looked great!! I wasn't too impressed with Tates Creek at all!! I watched them play Conner & Conner gave them a good fight missing 2 key players!! I also agree with the price of admission especially since those paying to watch were packed in seats like sardines!! I also was less then impressed with the officiating!! Too many inconsistent calls & the scorekeepers struggled badly with keeping the right score!!! Congrats to Cooper!! Would love to see the Lady Jags knock some private school teams off that 9th Region pedestal!!!!
  9. I can see your point & agree!! Hopefully with all the talented youth playing on various 9th Region teams, a KY State Title can be brought home where is belongs!!! I look for the class of 2016 to have strong teams fighting for that spot...Highlands, Conner & Ryle should be tough!!
  10. That is a fair statement & good point but I still think teams should be smart & not overlook Conner or assume this is another talented Conner team that will self destruct at end!! I think what hurt Conner last year was not using the bench more during the season. Once Scott or Pluto got in trouble, their subs lacked Varsity pressure experience & it definitely showed in that loss to Boone Co at districts!!!
  11. I agree!! Because of the youth on Conner's team, many will overlook them!! Stamm knows what talent he has on the court & on his bench...he'll use that to his advantage so other teams beware!!!
  12. I believe that Conner will surprise teams this year, especially with the new coaching staff. They beat NCC, Scott, Boone, Bishop, Campbell Co, Holy Cross & Highlands last year. They played very close games with Cooper & Beechwood. Ryle & Cooper shouldn't overlook or take them lightly this year!!!!
  13. Thoughts, prayers & hugs their way!!! Jesse is a tough athlete & will no doubt come out on top after this!!!
  14. Myers, Hendricks, Maines & Gambrel...don't forget Gambrel at point!! I look for a couple sophomores to step up to the plate as well!! Frye & Boelter handled themselves at a couple games I saw this summer!! Conner has a young bench, but any player off that bench can cause trouble for opponents!!!
  15. Agreed!!! I think Conner's advantage will be the fact they have talented youth that is somewhat unknown to opponent's coaching staff!! Stamm has quite a few Aces up his sleeve with this team!! Will be a fun year to watch teams in 9th Region this year & see who steps up!!!
  16. NCC, Notre Dame, Conner & Boone for sure in the Top 10!!! Conner & Boone lost key seniors but have enough returning players to remain tough!! I think Conner's experienced youth outweighs Boone, however!!
  17. Nicely said & Good Luck to all these athletes!!
  18. Exactly!!! This time of the season is what the first 30 games conditioned you for!! The teams with losses aren't necessarily weak or losers!! Good teams learn from losses & they make you hungry!! If you win every game of the season, the instinct to fight isn't as strong!! Never look past the game in front of you!! I look for NCC & Conner to fight hard in their next games which should put some fear in Highlands & Boone!!!
  19. I have to laugh when people talk about "weak" schedules...if Conner's schedule was weak then what does it say about Boone & NCC since Conner played & beat both teams earlier in the season?? If the schedule is full of 9th Region teams, there is no such thing as "weak" schedule!!! Conner has struggled lately, but teams can't safely look past them or assume they are done. The 9th Region has teams that appear to be front runners but any team can be beaten on any given day!! I've seen teams starting 5 talented seniors predicted to win big wind up getting slaughtered by a team of unknown sophomores that had the game of their life!!! That is why this is the best part of basketball season!!! Congrats to NCC on the win tonight & to the young lady who will never forget making the winning last second shot for her team!!! What an awesome moment for her & her teammates!!!
  20. Conner got thumped last night, however they can't safely overlooked by teams. It seems like alot of these teams that started the season with a bang are now stepping on the court worn out. Could it be the fact these teams are playing 2-3 games a week back to back at the end of a long season? I'm not saying they aren't in condition physically, but rather mentally exhausted & no longer focused.
  21. How sad is that when the parent has to be "chaperoned" by the kid's high school AD? Ridiculous!!!
  22. Fans at the Conner/Holmes game took this thread to a whole other level!!! Good Lord!!! Just happy that the players of both teams were able to walk on their own out of the locker room!!!
  23. Every parent & spectator at a game will at some point bash the refs...easy target!! If you're not happy with what you see then get out there on the floor & join them!! Refs get paid good money to run up & down the floor and occasionally blow a whistle. It's by far not the easiest job in the world but after being a parent spectator for years, I can say I have a strong respect for the officials both good & bad ones!!!
  24. Obviously any team plays best when the regular seasoned starters are all on the floor & healthy. Not taking anything away from Pluto because she is good & a team leader but any coach would be lucky to have Gambrel as their back up!! She may be only a freshman, but she knows the game & would be starter for many other schools!! You win some, you lose some, but great learning comes from those losses so don't count Conner out just yet!!! I bet they bounce back bigtime in these last games of the season!!
