  1. That's exactly what I mean!! Coach Ritchie is excellent on developing her young talent!!
  2. I've noticed multiple discussions about the young talent on Varsity teams, so which teams have "Rookies" that can potential step up as major players/roles for their team? (Either starters or off the bench early players!! Remember we're talking about youth on current Varsity rosters!!!)
  3. I agree & will add that unless your kid plays for NDA or another powerhouse vball team, club is where most college scouting is!! Most scout only Open Elite teams but not limited. My friend's granddaughter received interests from a 16-2s team that played at Nationals so it is possible!! I believe most colleges probably spend more time scouting at club tourneys than at school tourneys!!
  4. I'm pretty sure it's one team or the other which I imagine causes problems for the MS teams. I know Newport ended up having to forfeit 8th grade games because players were trying to do both & teams complained. It's too much in my opinion for kids to be expected to play both!!
  5. That's exactly why this "rule" is silly!! It would make more sense to me to allow MS to "play up" a year than to jump 4 years!! It is very rare to have a player with talent, size & ability to play at a Varsity level but could benefit from Freshmen or JV level!! I doubt that move would be as controversial either!!
  6. Excellent Point!!! I also think that size should be considered as well when it comes to young ones moving up!! Varsity is physical & kids that are smaller & not finished growing can sustain injuries that can/will effect future development!!! This is mostly seen in soccer/track/cross country but not limited. A stress fracture at 11 can effect growth plates & will be a re-injury risk from then on!!! I still think to make it a "rule" & prevent MS from playing up would be pointless & extremely hard to police. It would also make it hard for small schools to create a real program!!
  7. I think its one of those situations that is case by case basis. I don't have a problem with it but if my kid was asked to play up but wouldn't necessarily be getting substantial game time, I'd rather they play with their peers. Practice time is one thing but nothing can replace Varsity game experience. To those that say it isn't fair to older players when young talent moves up & takes a position, I say that's life get use to it!!!
  8. I forgot that Conner had 2 play up a couple years ago!! Its a situation that will always be controversial whether the rule is strictly enforced or not. If a MS athlete is talented enough to make Varsity & have substantial playing time then I think its fine but if they will just sit on the bench, not worth it in my book. Schools get around the rule by not giving the MS a Varsity letter so they are eligible the whole 4 yrs of high school. It is a rule that can easily be manipulated so pointless IMO!!!
  9. Cooper may or may not be strong this year but look for them to turn into a real program in near future!! With that coaching staff it won't take long for success!!!
  10. Boone Co schools won't allow MS to play up but I believe both Beechwood & Highlands have strong MS that will be part of Varsity but not sure how strong??
  11. Lucky or not...good for you!! Let the player's skill do the talking by itself!! I find it hard to believe this young lady has made the decision to transfer over & over on her own!!! Sometimes parents need to step aside & stop trying to "pave the way" for their kid!! No college I know would let it continue at the college level!!! Have some faith in your kid's ability on their own!!!
  12. I believe I used "some" & not "all". I agree with that there are younger coaches that are quality coaches but I will also say that "most" of them played or came from an "old school" coached program!!!
  13. I'm not sure you'll ever get the point so I'm not gonna bother explaining!! Let's just say my kid played for a high school coach that built & continues a top program every year with athletes that are at the top academically without parents telling the coaching staff how to run things! Definitely don't see kids transferring schools in/out every other year either!! Just saying...
  14. My disgusting "assumption" is based on behavior off the court & in the classroom!! It happens in every sport everywhere & we see it everyday!! Players with poor grades or poor behavior that is overlooked so they can play the game!! I believe coaches have the position to not only make better players but also better people!! Today's coaching is mostly done by parents coaching from the sidelines!! Some coaches allow it but the coaches from the old school era (20+ yrs ago) don't let it happen!! The issue that a parent has taken their kid in & out of school purely for the athletics is a big problem in my book & a school/coach that accepts it is just as big of a problem!!! It's High School not the Pro's!! A High School Education is the priority people not High School Sports!!!
  15. If her transfer was denied then she'll stay at Holmes & will play on that team...who else does Holmes have? The old school of coaches wouldn't let her step foot on the court after a transfer stunt but this generation doesn't know the meaning of "morals" or "ethics"!!! All they want are "wins" & "championships"!! Forget academics or behavior, its all about the talent & how to get a trophy!!!
  16. Conner returns Myers, Maines, Hendricks & Gambrel..all 4 have Varsity experience. They have a few sophomores that saw minutes at Varsity level last year returning. Their weakness will be ball handling, especially if Gambrel gets in foul trouble or injured. Conner will need those talented young players to step up & deliver in order to win!!
  17. I agree & was saying the same thing when I heard the news this summer!!! A coaching staff change is sometimes rough the first year but in the long run this is great for Cooper's program!! I'm curious to see how NDA fairs with their new coaching staff. You can have a teamful of talent but it's on the coach's shoulders to make them winners!! A Good Coach can take a team with half the talent & win championships when it counts...like Fookes does every year!! (Although the last few years she has had talent helping her cause!!) Anyway you look at it this should be a fun year to watch 9th region basketball!!
  18. Agree!!! Macy Ford from Boone is tough, too!! Conner has a lot to prove for anyone to really consider them a threat!! It could happen just not sure at this point!! I guess the same could be said for any team #3-10!!
  19. I agree!!! NDA has talent but also a new coach & last time a new coach inherited a talented & took them to a championship was Tubby Smith at UK!!! Hopefully for NDA, they'll have another powerhouse year & new coaching won't hold them back!! NCC could take the top spot & stay there with no problem!!
  20. I agree with all the above except I would have Ryle #4 or 5. Both Ryle & Conner have talented youth so if they can handle the Varsity level, they both could be ones to watch out for!! Kiernan from NCC should be POY no doubt!!!
  21. Something else I thought should be added in defense of any player playing setter...a setter can only do so much with what passes they're given!! Conner's setter is only a freshman but is a mature player & does the best she can running all over the court trying to make plays from bad passes!! I think the sophomore wasn't "replaced" as you worded it but was moved to back row so the setter could actual get good passes to work with!! Either way these are young girls with more high school years left to develop skills & don't need the extra negative criticism from doubters!!!
  22. No harm done but she legitimately has been contacted by both schools once in person, once by phone & once by letter of interest. From what I do know nothing was offered officially due to grade level & recruiting policies but she has been contacted with an interest to play volleyball past high school level. I understand it is hard to believe given she plays for Conner & I'm sure she was scouted during club season vs school ball. She is a talented player all around so I'm guessing if Conner isn't using her as setter or hitter, it may be because they need her more for defense...who knows?! I'm not one to shoot down any player's ability or talent since these are young girls developing & not professionals yet!!!
  23. NCC had a great comeback after falling flat in the first game!! Conner has been a huge disappointment this year. With the talent they have on that team, they shouldn't have a losing record!!! I've seen many of those players on Elite club teams but not playing the same positions for school ball. He has a sophomore that has received letters of interest from both D1 & D2 schools for setting yet she played back row only!! She played great from the back & had some impressive down balls but was needed more at the net where her talent shows!! I know it shocked a couple other NCC parents!!! Conner's loss....Another great win by the Lady Breds!!!
