ESPN coming to Union
I feel for Ryle in this one. This won't end well.

5A #1 Covington Catholic vs. 6A Cooper - Umbrellas ARE permitted
Can't stop or even slow CCH down in this one. I see the 2nd and 3rd stringers getting a lot of playing time in this one.

Cooper Football 2017, no worries.
Yep, but I'd rather have one long season than 50 long seasons.

Just keep learning Jags. Use this season as a way to improve.

Cooper Football 2017, no worries.
This year is going to be full of growing pains for Cooper but I have no problem at all with that. Cooper is so young and knew it would be a tough season for them but I really like some of the changes being made. For the 5th year in a row they have had a new qb. This year may be the last of the revolving qb's for awhile. I love the change made from Armour as starting qb to Linder to starting qb. I liked what I saw in the HHS game when Linder took over. He throws a nice ball and one of the biggest problems Cooper had was no wr's that could catch the ball. Now they move Armour back to receiver where he played last year and they finally have a decent threat at that position as they demonstrated with their TD Fri night. That plus the fact that Armour is only a JR this year gives him another year to mature at that position. The best part of that fact is that the starting qb now is only a sophomore. That is huge! Coach Borchers is the best in the area at molding qb's and he now has 3 years with Linder which is huge. Anyone remember the last 3 yr starter at that position? Does Tyler Morris ring any bells? He went from a team that couldn't beat themselves to a team that made it to the state championship game his senior year as starting qb. I'm not saying that will happen here but I will remind everyone that every qb Borchers started after that state title run season broke school records each year after. This year will be ugly, no doubt, next week will make you want to bury your heads in the sand garunteed when they play Cov Cath and a certain SK fan will gloat the rest of the season in this one. But in the end I will take the growing pains. They have been so successful in their infancy compared to another team who took over 50 yrs to simply match Coopers success in their first 6. Cooper fans, there will be those detractors so be prepared to take your lumps. It comes with the territory. Just take the hits and let it roll off your shoulders. In the end this is all to improve the team over the next few seasons. Cooper will be back sooner than later at taking their place once again at the top of their district. Just be patient. I wouldn't trade this coaching staff for any other in NKY. Cooper Strong!

I'm at the Fairfield game, my sister in laws fitire hubby has a son playing who is one of the top linemen in Ohio for Fairfield. Fairfield is #6 in the state and are getting their butts handed to gen by Centerville. about to be 20-0 Sounds like Coopers passing game again is non existent.

For all you Seniors
(I posted this the first time in 2015 and meant to post it last week, but it still has the same impact and meaning, this is for you) This is my favorite time of year...High School Football starts tonight and remember watching Corey who started playing in 1st grade and is now playing college ball, I couldn't help but sit down and jot down these words yesterday on the eve of the High School Football season. This is dedicated to all those boys who have fulfilled their dreams of playing under the Friday Night Lights. From a Dream to Reality 6 years old and you just got knocked down by a kid you never met before. You fight back the tears because you know it's how you learn. That kid that knocked you down through the next 12 years will be your best friend, your brother and most important, your teammate. That was your first ever football practice. You and your new found best friend along with many of your new found friends and teammates will play football at recess and after school in an empty field with a nerf ball until it's time to go to practice when Dad gets off work and mom packs you up in the car and off you go. You and your "brothers" eat sleep and dream about the greatest sport ever. On Friday nights You and your friends can't wait to go to the local high schools football game and root on your favorite team and favorite players who in your eyes are bigger than life. You can always be found behind the end zone tossing a little tiny football you caught when the cheerleaders threw them out to the fans in the stands. You proclaim to your friends that you are your favorite high school football player on your favorite team as you catch a pass from your best friend who claims to be the high schools starting QB. At 10 years old, life is good but you dream of the night that it is you playing under those bright lights and you become more determined to practice and play even harder in your pee wee league just so you can one day fulfill that dream. 7 - 8 years pass and what seemed like an eternity to get there you now realize how fast the time has gone. You look to your left and your right to the 2 kids your holding hands with. Your best friend is on your left, your other good friend is on your right. you've been teammates with each other for the past 11 years and it finally hits you as you strap on that helmet for your final season ever of football. From that little kid who got knocked on his butt his first day ever playing football you are now about to run through that tunnel of cheerleaders onto your field of dreams with that very kid who not only put you on the ground 11 years ago but extended his hand to you to help you up and has since became your fellow warrior in this game and your brother in life and best friend ever. As you run out onto that playing field for the start of your last year ever playing the game you love, you spy out of the corner of your eye a couple 9 and 10 year olds pressed up against the fence, eyes as wide as saucers, looking up at you as though you are their hero. It has come full circle. You have fulfilled your dream of playing on Friday nights and at the same time have started that burning desire and dream in the hearts of those kids at the fence who now look up to you, you the player who in their eyes is bigger than life. Tomorrow boys starts the realization of dreams by many of you. Enjoy this. Enjoy the greatest game on earth. Enjoy your time under the Friday Night Lights. For you seniors, Enjoy High School Football one last time. Leave it all out in the field and remember that little kid you once were and know that there will be more like you looking up at you this weekend and dreaming of the day they can run in your shoes. High School Football. It doesn't get any better than this!

Is Highlands back to being, well, Highlands?
You Rock! Missed you since I've been gone. You are 100% correct.

Is Highlands back to being, well, Highlands?
No. If you actually watched the game you would know Highlands isn't close to being the Highlands of old.

He really played well too. He did a great job on Venneman. Cooper does have some pretty good DB's and you add Schlarman in there as a safety and they can slow some teams down.

Too many. Both teams were playing hot potato with the ball. At one point there were 3 Int's in 4 consecutive plays. Cooper threw a pick, next play HHS threw a pick and then Cooper ran the ball and then threw a pick.

I don't know, I'm guessing they did becauseif they didn't they had some guys who were really out of shape because they wore down quick on drives that are the clock. Cooper did too.

I think the same was said by many people exactly a year ago after Cooper let their lead slip away when they got worn down and HHS ran away with the W. we all remember how that season turned out. I would use the exact same caution this year with HHS if I were you. If you are using last nignts game as a barometer of how the Bluebirds will do this year I wouldn't get too excited. Both teams have an uphill battle from here on out. I wish both the best but I don't predict any of these teams having a memorable season this year for the good. Cooper is so young and HHS also looked young. Best of luck to to both teams the rest of the way but I think CCH isn't worried about either one of thear teams when they play them this year.

Collins split tone with Schlarman in the backfield most of the first 3 qtrs. He is a fun back to watch but he is soooo small I'm afraid everytime he gets hit especially on kick returns. He took some punishing hits. I think he is 130lbs soaking wet. The backup RB I was referring to was Witchev. Really had a good game. I think he's only a sophomore. He really showed me a lot. And if you remember the scrimmage last week against your Boone, he had his name called a lot as he also plays safety. Yea, I thought for those not at the game may want to hear what actually happened with the INT's. Like I said, the 1st half was more indicative of what both teams had to offer. Was 9-7 Cooper until last 30 secs of the half. Both teams looked even and it was who could last longer in the trenches.

Oh, I did want to add one last comment. #14 (McClane) for Cooper made one of the best CB plays I've ever seen at this level last night. He is going to be fun to watch this season. He saved a TD early literally by punching the ball away as he had to do a 180 at the very last split second as he was able to punch the ball away which I thought he'd never have a chance at. It was amazing and can't believe no one in here mentioned that play. It was phenominal.

Is Logan number 28 or something like that? I was doing chains last night and was in awe every kick watching him run full blast right into the wedge. I haven't seen that hard of a hitting wedge buster this side of college ball. That kid is a beast. I'm willing to bet with that hitting on kicks he will surely cause more than a few opposing players to see the total eclipse of Friday Nights. I was highly impressed

Here is what I took away from the game. Both teams struggled mightily and both will have a long season. The score was not indicitive of what you'll see this year from both I'm afraid. HHS outlasted Cooper thanks to about 5-6 Ints. 4 of them within about a 10 min period in the 2nd half which led to about 28 of HHS points. I think the first half was more telling on what both teams had to offer. Cooper moving Armour from WR last year to QB this year looked like it will be a work in progress. One of the issues is taking him from being a WR took away one of the better set of hands Cooper had and unfortunately he doesn't have anyone now dependable enough to throw too. Out of his 5-6 Ints 4 of them bounced off the receivers hands or chest. It looked like a tip drill the entire night. Without a passing game Cooper will have to find something else that works. Highlands didn't have much of a running game nor did Cooper until both DLines wore down. Both teams are playing a lot of players both ways and once the lines wore down it was a free for all. This will improve just like it did last season. What I did like was Coopers backup QB tnrows a nice ball, pretty accurate and Coopers backup rb was pretty impressive once he got to play in the 4th. Had some great cuts and a couple nice long runs including I think a 47 yd TD. Borchers is one of the best coaches around so I know he'll get things going in the right direction. I myself am not a great coach lol so who knows if I'd make the right calls. I do think however their backup qb throwing to Armour might be something I'd like to see before the year is out. Good luck to both teams the rest of the way.
