It is a nice win for Highlands.

 

I look forward to what our membership has to say about the game.

Highlands gets the Camels next week. Cooper plays NewCath.

Rough start for the Birds. First quarter and a half consisted of 8 penalties, a fumble, and a snap over the punter's head for a safety. Score was 9-0 Jags midway through the second quarter.

 

Once HHS stopped shooting themselves in the foot they took over the game. Highlands scored 42 unanswered to put the game away heading to the fourth quarter. Cooper scored 2 late fourth quarter TD's to finish out the scoring.

 

Cooper took Venneman away. When HHS forced the ball his way it was a bad result. The TD to Wogan on fourth and 5 was a beautiful play. Venneman ran a short route and Wogan came across the field deep behind the defender concentrating on covering Venneman. Schoellman laid the ball out there and Wogan ran under for the TD catch and run.

 

Schwalbach was hard to bring down. As Cooper's defense got worn down, Schwalbach took advantage and found the end zone 4 times.

 

The Jags running game was not very successful and their passing game was not good. Four interception for Steiden and an interception return for TD by Harrison Traylor.

 

The Birds looked a bit better than the #18 - class 5A team in the state and are probably a tad better than #9 in N Ky.

I am not sure the Birds are any better than last year. From what I gather, the Cooper QB threw multiple ducks rights at them. I think next week vs Campbell will give us better insight.

Yeah Cooper probably should just close their program out and Highlands shouldn't even acknowledge the win.

Any win is a good win. Birds have a lot to clean up, but there are a lot of things to like. Logan Sieple is a wedge-busting beast. The defense is very solid. Schwalbach runs, well, like the same hard-nosed runner we've come to expect. Keep working Birds!

It was what many expected. Highlands is much better than last year. The seniors stepped up after 2 bad series and loooked good. Also, the field was loaded with sophomores and juniors. Remember the best sophomore by far (Huddleston) is out and very talented Ahfeld just returned from Ryle. This was a big win to get some confidence with a young talented team trying to get their swag back.. Booby Armstrong is one of the hardest hitting kids I have seen in a very long time. I don't know #20 but holy cow that kid can blow up a wall on special teams...

Can't wait to watch sisson as he develops. I was surprised not to see Nate Roberts much.

Good win for HHS but I did not see them being overly better than last year. They had one sustained long drive for their first score which didn't come until the 2nd qtr and one big play just before half to take the lead and other than that they had short fields off of 5 INTs off qbs who had never taken a varsity snap at the position, credit to the HHS but I think everyone knows this Cooper team is very young as it appeared that nearly 14-15 of the 22 spots they fielded were 1st time, or meaningful, Friday night players which is not an excuse but simply a fact that will impact Cooper's season. I personally thought HHS would dominate from the opening kick but the young Jags made it interesting in the first half.

As I said, kudos to HHS but I think the difference is that Cooper's QB has never played the position period. Big difference.

It will be a long season for Cooper.
