  1. #5 is okay for now.. The only team I may have an issue being behind would be LCA.. Not sure what they've done to justify a #3 ranking, but, they're a solid team, so, so be it.. As the season wears on and teams start taking there hits, the picture will become clearer and if all continue to win, then it'll get decided in the playoffs, like it should.. I'd probably have Leslie Co in at 10 right now, instead of Somerset, but, it's splitting apples, overall, looks good..
  2. I'm definitely rooting for the Hounds in this one, but, I'm afraid they likely overscheduled with this one.. Kudos to the Corbin folks who put this one together and for testing themselves like this.. Regardless of the outcome, the Hounds will learn a lot about themselves and will be better for it.. In saying that, Alcoa is a top notch team and program.. They'd likely be an overall Top 5-10 team in Ky, including all classes.. I think they'll make too many big plays on offense for Corbin to keep up, but, I hope I'm wrong.. I think it'll be something in this neighborhood: Alcoa 35 Corbin 7..
  3. I suspect the Tigers learned some things last week against a very good S.Warren team and will make adjustments this week.. They'll be better this week.. Not sure if that results in a victory, but, I do expect them to play hard and make it a game.. Its hard to imagine Mayfield playing as well as they did last week, where everything they did worked like a charm.. If they do, it could get ugly, but, those games don't happen every week and being on the road against a team with its backs against the wall desperate to show that last week wasn't what they're about and this could be a dandy.. These teams have had some great games in the past and it's good to see them back on each others schedule.. I give the edge to the Cards, as Coach J and staff seem to be hitting all the right buttons and have a great feel for this team and thus far are playing in mid season form, while the Tigers are still trying to figure some things out.. The Hoptown secondary will have to find a way to contain all the Cardinals receiving weapons, which is not an easy chore.. I think the Cards will make too many big plays for the Tigers and I think the Card D will play well enough to contain the Tigers big plays.. M 33 H 14
  4. If Mayfield plays anywhere close to what it did this week, they'll win going away.. Hoptown has some athletes and speed to match up, but, not sure they can execute as well as the Cardinals do on both sides of the ball.. It'll be a little closer than this weeks game, but, I'll take Mayfield by 28...
  5. Daviess Co is better than most give them credit for.. I expect them and McCracken Co battling it out for the D1 title in 6a.. McCracken will be the favorite, but, Daviess isn't too far behind them..
  6. A little closer than I'd have expected, but, this is a big county rivalry game, the 1st game of the season and Daviess is a pretty decent 6a team, so, not a bad opener for the Aces, but, they'll have to get much better if they expect to make a title run this year,,
  7. Overall, an outstanding performance by the Cardinals.. Make no mistake, they're going to be right in the hunt again this year.. This is as deep a receiving core as they've had, right up there with the 2010 team.. Matthews, Harrison, Murrell, Daniel and Guthrie can all stretch the field and all run good routes and have good hands.. The OL did a great job in pass protection.. Both QBs bring a little something different to the table and gives teams 2 different looks that are both effective. Stinson a little better passer, Guthrie more mobile and can get yards with his legs.. On the defensive side, the Cardinals have a lot of speed and pursue well and I think the DL is a little bigger and stronger this year and they're able to play more physical this year. They're also sound tacklers across the board. Hard to tell how the secondary is in pass coverage because UC is a primarily run offense.. If anything, the OL struggled to open many running lanes and as the season wears on, will need to do a better job.. Give UC some credit there as they had a very strong front 7.. The RB run hard, but, they don't have that break away back like they've had the past 3-4 seasons with Trajon Bright.. It's more a position by committee this year.. The kicking game needs to get better.. They missed a couple of PATs and they don't have that guy that can consistently put the ball in the end zone on kickoffs.. UC started in good field position several times tonight..
  8. Ballard is a 6a public school and Desales is a 2a private school.. I'd venture to say, there's as many bodies on the Desales sidelines as there is on Ballards, maybe more..
  9. Mayfield now leading 41-0 with 4:39 to go in the game..
  10. The Cards taking advantage thru the air all night long.. The Card rushing game has been held in check by a strong front 7 of the Golden Tornados.. They only had 16 yards in 8 carries in the 1st half.. Give credit, find what works and go to it and then continue to exploit it..
  11. Touchdown Mayfield.. Stinson to Matthews hooking up for the score.. PAT good, Mayfield 28 Union City 0..
  12. Mayfield got the ball to start the 2nd half and the Tornados held them to a 3 and out.. Union City has picked up a couple of 1st downs on there 1st possession, but, seems like each time they get a big play, its been brought back for a hold orillegal block..
  13. Halftime Score : Mayfield 21 Union City 0 ... Cards offense looking great and defense has bent, but, not broke and also playing extremely well against a big, strong and experienced Tornado offensive unit.. Still a half to go and a long way from being over, but, at this point, Cards hitting on all cylinders and playing at a very high level..
  14. UC on the move again.. Just inside Cardinal territory with 3::12 left in 1st half, they call a time out.. They need to get points on the board here before the half to try and get a little momentum going..
  15. Touchdown Mayfield from 2 yards out, PAT good... 5.55 left in 2nd qtr.. 21-0 Mayfield leads.. The Cards are throwing the ball all over the lot with 5 different receivers making at least 1 catch.. UC having some trouble in secondary covering all the Mayfield weapons.. UC has been pretty solid running the ball and has had it deep in Cardinal territory a couple of times but have shot themselves in the foot with a couple of turnovers and penalties at inopportune times..
  16. 1st and goal Cardinals.. Stinson hits Guthrie down to the 2 yard line.. One QB to the other..
  17. Mayfield on the move again.. Have taken the ball from there own 17 to the UC 27.. Both QBs, Stinson and Guthrie throwing the ball well..
  18. The Golden Tornado picks up a 1st down on there next drive up to about midfield, but are forced to punt.. Mayfield 1st and 10 from own 17 yard line..
  19. 2 pt. conversion successful.. Guthrie again takes it in.. 14-0 Mayfield leads..
  20. Touchdown Mayfield... Guthrie on the QB sneak takes it in.. After an offside penalty by UC, the Cards opt to go for 2 from the 1 1/2 yard line.. T/O Cards..
  21. End of 1st quarter, 6-0 Mayfield leads.. The 2nd quarter will have the ball 3rd and goal from the one..
  22. 2 huge plays by Mayfield for 80 yards.. 1st and goal at the UC 2..
  23. The Cardinals stuff them on 4th down.. 1st and 10 Cards.. at there own 22..
  24. UC calls a T/O with a 4th and inches coming up at the Mayfield 22 yard line..
  25. Tornados in 4 down territory.. With there running game, that'll make them extremely tough to stop..
