  1. When you lose your best player and 2 other really good players due to transfer, that hurts.. The Tiger D has some experience and are pretty solid, especially there secondary, who had a couple of picks, one taken in for a TD and several other breakups.. They did have a few breakdowns and Mayfield took advantage with 3 or 4 big plays, but, the Cards ran the ball much better this week, rushing for over 230 yards on 38 carries, over 6 yds. a carry and controlled the LOS and a couple of those breakdowns were when they were cheating up to help the run D.. The Tiger offense is where they're really young and inexperienced.. They have some athletes and skill players and I think they'll get better as the season wears on, just, right now, they need some games under there belts against some teams they can have some success with and build some confidence.. Mayfield and S.Warren aren't the 2 teams to do that against..
  2. Good luck Rocks !! It sure doesn't get any easier this week, but, a win could sure do you wonders from a national standpoint. Would love to see a Ky. team in the Top 10..
  3. Nice bounce back win for the Jumpers. :ylsuper: Put last weeks disappointment behind you now, learn from it and move forward. A win this coming week could turn your season around and give you a lot of momentum for the rest of the year. It's a tough game, but, very doable. Success isn't supposed to be easy. Good luck the rest of the way..
  4. I agree that CC deserves the #1 ranking this week, but, what happens if BG bounces back next week against St X? Will that put the Purples back at #1, even if CC wins next week, as well? While the PRP loss is disappointing, it's certainly not a bad loss, especially on the road and this early in the season.
  5. Highlights for Mayfield 1) Run defense - For the 2nd week in a row, Mayfield's run defense looked tremendous. There team speed is outstanding on that side of the ball and they fly to the ball.. 2) Pass Protection - Again this week, the Cards QBs had all day to find there receivers and haven't given up a sack all year.. 3) Offensive Weapons - Guthrie, Halliburton, Mathews all looked good running the ball and they have so many receivers to throw it too, makes it extremely difficult to key on any particular scheme.. 4) Kicking Game - A concern coming in to the season and even a couple of issues last week, but, the Cards kicker was 7 for 7 on PATs tonight, so, hopefully, they've put those concerns to rests.. Lowlights for Mayfield 1) Penalties - Called for 11 penalties on the night.. Gotta clean those up to be as good as they can and want to be.. 2) Turnovers - Cards gave up 2 picks, one a pick 6, had 2 fumbles and had a punt blocked.. 5 turnovers against quality opponents won't get it done.. 3) Kick Coverage - Hop'Town, as was the case last week vs Union City, had several KO returns resulting in excellent field position.. I recall at least 3 to 4 times in the last 2 weeks, where there opponent started in Cardinal territory.. Your better teams will make you pay..
  6. Congrats on the big win Breds.. Glad to see 2A make another statement..
  7. Sounds like the Scotties may be for real this year.. I know they have a couple of kids getting some looks from some d1 schools.. May be smart to keep an eye on these guys..
  8. Some people will look at this score and figure OB Catholic is down this year, but, Reitz is a powerhouse, a much bigger school and has one of there better teams in several years on top of that.. Throw in all those factors and it's not that surprising.. Reitz isn't a Trinity, but, I'd put them on par with all the Top 4a and 5a teams in Ky, outside of maybe B.Green..
  9. Hopkinsville blocks a Cardinal punt and the Tigers end up getting a score as time ran out in the game against the JV unit... Final Mayfield 49 Hopkinsville 20
  10. Tigers get a huge return on the ensuing kickoff.. 1st and 10 at the Mayfield 39 yard line.. A lot of new faces in for the Cardinals..
  11. Mayfield answers quickly with another score and the PAT is good, so, with 30 secs. left in 3rd quarter, its 49-14 Cardinals..
  12. Tigers get a score from 1 yard out to make it 42-14..
  13. 6:58 to go in 3rd.. 1st and 10 Tigers at there own 34 yard line..
  14. Mayfield scores again to go up 42-7 and have absolutely taken over the game on both sides of the ball.. Very impressive..
  15. Mayfield takes opening drive of 2nd half in for a score with a nice 61 yard drive.. PAT is good... 35-7 the Cards lead with about 8:00 left in 3rd qtr..
  16. 1st half stats Rushing Yds. .... Mfd. 137 .... Hop (1) Passing Yds. .... Mfd. 105 .... Hop 75 Total Yds. .... Mfd. 242 .... Hop 74 1st Downs .... Mfd. .... 10 .... Hop 6 Fumbles .... Mfd. .... 2-1 .... Hop 2-1 Ints. .... Mfd 2 .... Hop 2 Penalties .... Mfd 6x65 .... Hop Hop 5x32 Mayfield scores twice on the ground, once thru the air and once on a pick 6.. Hopkinsville scores once on a pick 6.. Mayfield's speed against the run has been outstanding and given the Tigers a lot of problems.. The Cardinal secondary has given up a couple of long passes, but, overall has held the Tigers to just 5 completions on 16 attempts, so, not bad.. On the offensive end, Stinson is 5 of10 with 1 TD and 2 picks, while Guthrie was 1of1 for 10 yards but also rushed for 64 yards on 4 carries.. On the Tiger side, the secondary has 2 picks, one taken in for there lone touchdown and has made several big breakups and there DL has been pretty solid against the run.. Offensively, there running game has been non existent, but, have found a little success through the air.. If they're going to make a comeback, they're going to have to be able to get some semblance of a run game going to open up there passing game..
  17. After a loss of 8 on 1st down, Stinson hits Jordan Harrison on a wheel route for another Mayfield score ... PAT is good.. 28-7 Mayfield leads..
  18. With .51 secs left in the half, the Cards are threatening again with a 1st and 10 at the Tiger 12 yard line.. The Cards have all 3 time outs remaining..
  19. On the ensuing play, the Cards get another int. to thwart the Tiger drive.. They make a big return to the Tiger 40, but, get called for a block in the back after the pick, bringing it back there own 25 yard line..
  20. After 3 incomplete passes, the Cards have a roughing the passer call on them, giving the Tigers an automatic 1st down at the Cardinal 15 yard line..
  21. The Tigers picks up a big pass play all the way down to the Mayfield 30 yard line, still over 2:00 to go in the half, as the Tigers try and get something on the board before the half..
  22. Mayfield's Connor Guthrie gets a pick 6 with 2:24 to go in 1st half, giving the Cardinals a 21-7 lead..
