PT went for 2 after a Mayfield penalty, but, failed, so, that made it 13-6.. Mayfield got the ball back at there own 24 yard line after the kickoff and a couple of plays later answered with a long TD pass, again to Harrison, PAT was good, so, now its 20-6 Mayfield, with just over 3:00 to go in 2nd qtr.. -

BluegrassPreps Class 2A Rankings Discussion (8/28)
MHSCardinal replied to Ram's topic in KY Football (High School)
True, while the majority of folks talk about the Big 5 in 2A, NCC and OB Catholic are both very good teams capable of knocking anyone off on a given night.. Glasgow may also be in that conversation, but, I think they still have some proving to do to get in that conversation with the others.. -

CalPreps also said if each of the Top 5 played each other on a neutral field, here's how the reults would turn out: Mayfield 4-0 CAL 3-1 LCA 2-2 Desales 1-3 Danville 0-4 -
BluegrassPreps Class 2A Rankings Discussion (8/28)

I guess until this week, it was just crazy talk then, because Danville was #1 last week.. These folks that do the voting on here, take it pretty serious.. I doubt they'd take too kindly of you calling there voting crazy.. I still contend that any of 5 teams could be ranked #1 right now and there wouldn't be a lot of argument, that's how close these 5 teams are.. Certainly no one's separated themselves from the pack, to this point.. -

Not a good week to be playing the Purples.. they'll take out last weeks frustration on the Tigers. I just don't see St X having enough offensive weapons to keep pace.. The X line play will be the only thing keeping this one from being a blowout.. BG 28 X 14 -

I disagree that these 2 are CLEARLY 1A and 1B for now... I don't think too many people would be all that surprised if Desales, Mayfield or LCA were at #1 at this point.. IMO, there's not an eyelash difference in any of the Top 5 and none of them have done anything to hurt there position.. All have quality wins and all have been impressive in doing so.. -

Mayfield's 2 victories are just as impressive as anyone's.. I think that'll prove out as the season wears on.. There's an area or 2 that they fall a little short of last years team, but, at the same time, there's a couple of areas that are a little better than last years team and the one component that you can't simply judge from a talent standpoint and that's team cohesiveness and this version of Cardinals seem to have that going for them.. -
IMO, Danville wins this one comfortably.. Boyle's 2 blowout wins were against 2 teams always overly hyped coming into the season.. J. Hardin, decent team, at best and Waggoner, decent team, but, lacks numbers to compete against the better teams.. Knox Central is the best win of either team and that was done by Danville..The Ads D will be the difference.. Too much speed and experience returning and they won't turn it over like Boyles 1st 2 opponents and I don't think Boyle can win the battle in the trenches against an experienced and deep line the Ads will throw at them.. It'll likely be closer on the scoreboard than it will be on the field.. Ads 34 Rebs 17

Max Preps State Rankings after Week 1
MHSCardinal replied to MHSCardinal's topic in KY Football (High School)
A couple of things that stick out to me: BG at #12.. Even after the loss, they're no worse than 6th or 7th, imo.. JC at #3.. I know JC is a very good team, but, putting them ahead of a few of the 5a and 6a teams is a stretch.. I could see them in the 6-10 range, but, no higher.. I question Ryle still remaining in the Top 25 at this point.. They may eventually work there way there, but, right now, they should be out.. -
I think PT can somewhat stuff the Cardinals run game. The question is, can they also stop the air attack? I just don't see them being able to do both.. Coach Morris will take what the PT defense gives him and I'm sure OC Steven Hatchell will have a few new wrinkles to throw out there.. I look for the Cardinals to come out and make a few big plays early thru the air and by the time the 4th qtr. roles around, that big Cardinal OL will start imposing its will and get the ground game going to keep them comfortably out of reach.. Without much in the way of a passing game, the Cards will load the box and make it tough on the Tornados to generate offense, similar to what they did against Union City.. UC did have some success on the ground, but, kept shooting themselves in the foot with penalties and turnovers.. I don't expect the Tornados to shoot themselves in the foot like UC did and I think they'll manage some 1st downs and moving the chains, keeping the potent Cardinal offense off the field.. While that strategy will likely make the score more respectable, having to put together long, sustained drives simply running the ball, will prove to be a tough task against a fast and swarming Cardinal D, so, not sure how many points they'll be able to generate.. With all this said, I expect PT to muster enough offense to score once, get another score from a defense that'll likely set the O up in good field position somewhere along the way or from special teams, most likely a long KO return, setting them up with a short field, but, I don't think they can do much more than that. I look for the Cards to put together 2 or 3 big plays early, then go to the ground and pound game in the 2nd half and add a couple more scores.. Mayfield 35 PT 14
