A little closer than I'd have expected, but, this is a big county rivalry game, the 1st game of the season and Daviess is a pretty decent 6a team, so, not a bad opener for the Aces, but, they'll have to get much better if they expect to make a title run this year,,

Like both teams but glad OC posted the big win.

DC QB did a great job. He has a great arm. DC can have a good year.

A bit underwhelming in comparison to what some other top 2A teams did last night, but at the same team anytime a 2A team can beat a 6A team it is a quality win.

 

Don't think Daviess would stay within 4 TDs of Ballard as a comparative analogy

Daviess Co is better than most give them credit for.. I expect them and McCracken Co battling it out for the D1 title in 6a.. McCracken will be the favorite, but, Daviess isn't too far behind them..

I think DC is a little better than we expected. Their QB Cambron had a coming out party last night. Doesn't hurt to have the best junior WR in the state on the outside either. Fletcher pretty good too. DC is better than most expected.

 

On the Catholic side, they are going to have to get better up front. They have some new guys in new spots so that is to be expected week 1. I did not expect Williams to be held in check like he was. Nearly 300 yards last year but limited to 50 or so last night. Make no mistake, the Aces will improve their deficiencies. They are to well coached not to. Things were pretty grim at halftime, but their adjustments and conditioning won them the game.

I thought DC was very good in first half. The WR Tinsley is a tough match up for most teams, and Catholic had no answer for him most of the game. The DC qb had a good first half, i thought he threw a good deep ball, but agree with Apollo Fan that having WR like that is nice. Tinsley was 12 yards away from anybody on 1TD. Thought the DC QB struggled in 2nd half and was a little erratic on short and mid range throws, but good deep again.

OC struggled first half, could not run the ball, dropped passes, didn't block or tackle very well. Thought their QB and DE #9 kept them from getting blown out first half. QB stuck a few balls in so tight that they could not drop them, and #9 was being double and sometimes triple teamed.

Second half, OC seemed to relax a bit and RB #15 got going with a few good runs. I was on fence by endzone and the TD pass from the OC QB to #11 was as good as Ive seen. Threaded a needle from about 30 yards away. That seemed to ignite OC and they seized control.

Both teams suffered from cramps all night, saw more kids on the ground from cramps on each sideline than from being tackled.

As a local high school fan, this matchup is finally becoming what it should be. Lets be honest DC has I'm guessing 1600 or so kids in school and again Im guessing here that OC has about 400, so the fact that DC is finally playing them closer is a good sign for the county football program. I just thought that the leadership and no quit attitude of #11, #15, and #14 on offense and #9, #47, and again #15 on defense kinda willed OC to victory.

OC has some issues up front and at DB. If they can get better front and faster and smarter at DB they they will be OK. Also have to get #5 in the game, a guy next to me said he heard he was hurt?

DC has depth issues, I thought that #2 and #5 and #12 and #14 were nice players and thought that #3 had moments early on where he looked good also.

All in all a very good game and both teams should find some positives and negatives to pull from this game. Next week for these teams will be interesting, I think DC should be favored by a bunch and OC will probably be a 2-3 TD underdog.

#5 starts.

This was one of the strangest games I've ever seen. First of all I've never seen so many kids cramping up in a game before. Must be something in the Ohio River... Definitely hit Daviess Co more than OC. But both teams lost significant players for long stretches of the games due to cramps.

 

Second I've also never seen a game where both teams missed opportunities to blow the other team out. Daviess Co jumps all over Catholic and starts losing momentum before the half and blow a 25-7 lead. Then Catholic has a 33-25 lead and fumbles twice in the red zone and that could have lead to blow outs.

 

Lastly, DC has a much better team than people where giving them credit for. #3 is a good looking QB. Throws a great deep ball. Also, Tinsley is the real deal and #4 (Fletcher maybe) is good as well. Also, someone mentioned in the crowd they are all brothers??? Is that true?

 

As for OC.. they struggled in the spots most people that they would (Oline and secondary-all new starters). They got better as the game went on. Edge like always made the right adjustments and once they got a feel for what DC was doing it was all OC until late drive by Daviess Co. OC is still in my eyes a very dangerous team and beat a good DC team without good games from Williams and Hamilton. OC has a lot of weapons. Looking forward to the Border Bowl against 4 very good Evansville schools next week!

Daviess is better than what I would have expected. OC has some work to do on the line. The offensive line has to improve as the season progresses.
