Ice isn't going to help this one. Where was the adult in the equation that makes the responsible move of taking the kid out of the game? Come on. A kid's going to tell you he wants the ball.

Only been able to see Raisor (Highlands) and Slone (Ludlow) and they are gamers. Would like to add Conner Kreeger (Highlands) and Logan Scott (Simon Kenton) to the list.

Checking Louisville Slugger off of my list. She hit a 31/21 last night. It's probably put her at her max for this year. What is the allowed drop for High School ball?

All good information. Has been taking lessons for a couple of years (reputable/proven instructor? As far as I know..ha..) she is really starting to take off. She's a pretty strong kid but not sure that she could handle an end loaded bat. Probably more of a balanced bat/line drive hitter. I'm looking for a middle of the road bat that someone has identified as a solid bat for the money.

I need to purchase a bat for a middle schooler. What's hot....what's not.....? Best bat for the buck...? I need some help before I pay too much for the wrong bat... :idunno:

Not sure folks outside of the coaching staff know anything. Closed tryouts, but I did hear that the Dougherty kid is playing which is a plus and there are a slew of new freshman coming out. Might be a few ringers in that group. :ylsuper:

As mentioned previously, students have the opportunity to take the ACT at the end of their sophomore year. Someone mentioned to me that it was the month of June after his/her sophomore year. I look at this as a practice ACT that will identify areas to work on in preparation for the real thing. Take it and take it often..!!!

Pre-ACTs are taken prior to start of Freshman year so that a player can prepare for the academic game. Training and a clear understanding of what a player will be measured on helps set the same expectation for next level baseball. Now they know what they need to do and can set the appropriate goals to get them there,. Needs to start in middle school IMO. The guy that says "they are only freshman" will be in for a huge surprise when his player shows up to his/or her first college baseball camp as a Junior.

Yes, some of the events get too big. Too many kids to get any visibility. However, some of the smaller college camps feel more like an official tryout. They offer college recruiting/financing seminars and a tour of the campus. Cost is lower than the camps you put them in when they were 12 and your player gets direct contact with the coaching staff for at the very least a 3 minute 1:1 assessment. IMO folks start losing money when they sign their player up for a camp at a school that requires a GPA/ACT score that is much higher than what the player is sporting. There are schools that truly use their camps as a recruiting tool and grades+talent is what they are looking for. Just do your homework before you write the check.

Heard that but no details....the bigger question is....was he a starter and who gets the opportunity to step up....? I'm sure that there are a few out there competing for a spot.

I stand corrected. What I meant to say was ..It's great to see some kids acting like baseball could potentially be a sport that they would like to participate in during baseball season....Every year.... until they graduate from Highlands....

Great Job by Coach Taylor/Coach Finfrock and The Baby Birds! I think that they landed at .500 last year and 20-8 in 2013. Great to see some baseball only kids coming up through the Highlands Farm Club! Congratulations!

So it sounds like there is no benefit in a player playing up unless he will see an undetermined number of innings and/or dad needs to compensate for weaknesses in other areas. :banana: I think that most would have to agree with you on the rest. If a kid shows up to the tournament and has to be introduced to the rest of the team.....It might just be for the sake of winning a trophy!

....So just confirm your "ALL SEASON LONG" post. If at any time during the season a player is pulled up to the next level as part of his development, he should be required to stay up. The player should not be deemed eligible to play in the lower level/class tournament...regardless of the number of innings logged at that level. Did I get that right?

Great to hear about the Bunning kid's performance. I've heard that he worked hard during the offseason to "Get Better" and from the game summary above, it sounds like his hard work is paying off.
