Scott County has a lot of elite athletes on both sides of the ball. I would not be surprised if several of them qualify for state in track. SK came out tentative and SC pounced on them all night long. It appears that they lost confidence, probably after the Campbell County game. I'll say this to all of you SK haters out there and after a 50 point loss. Given the level of talent on this team, I would say that SK overachieved this season. Up until the last two games, they found ways to points on the board and win a few games. Eventually , not having a POY candidate stud on your team catches up with you. I believe Marksberry got the most out of this bunch that he could get. He did a very good job putting the kids into a position to compete.

These schools, with the possible exception of Boone, just do not have the athletes. Also, these schools are simply too small to compete in 6A. All of them are about 700 - 850 males compared to 1300 - 1500 for T. X and Scott. Throw in competition for athletes with smaller schools with easy paths to state titles and you have a formula for sustained mediocrity.

Games tonight will be decided by who can hang on to the ball!

Clyde, I thought you would make the Barker argument here? With all due respect to Mr. Durham, Barker has stronger argument about being the best player in NKy. Barker has multiple D1 offers, some from BCS programs. Success against NKy 6A can't be taken that seriously because the entire district is pretty mediocre (although after taking a look at the Lexington District, after Scott C., there is nobody there that blows you away either).

It is really hard to tell. It could not be because of team performance. Dixie had a banner year in the pool, and Simon Kenton had one of the best years in their history. Jerry Mohr was also aquatics director and ran the meets. I know Ed could not take that job because he coaches cc and track as well. Those guys coached 2 teams and ran the meets. There are bound to be lots of bumps at the meets this year.

My understanding is that KHSAA has no applicability to the student until that student reaches the 9th grade(other than the health form) They still need a health form to participate, but there is no other restriction that I am aware of. In addition, there is nothing binding an athlete to a high school program until they have participated at the varsity level and have entered the 9th grade. I had one son play freshman football as an 8th grader at one school, then after his mother took a job in another school district, that son followed her and played freshman ball again in a different program. I have another son swimming at the varsity level as a 7th grader. Again, no issues with KHSAA other that the health form requirement.

Actually, it is more understanding responsibilities on each play more than physical domination. Too many times kids block to the inside when the play calls for a block to the outside, or a tight end gives ground on a block, impeding the progress of a pulling guard or tackle. Often times with three man defensive fronts, there is no one lined up on the guards. SK has not run the ball well since the Ryle game.

Loosing to a 1-6 team with a home playoff date at stake might have something to do with it!

I'm sure that Ryle will use their freshman that have experience at higher levels. They don't have much to play for at the Varsity level and quite frankly a win in this game might deflect some of the pressure of a sub par season from the Ryle staff.

I have been thinking along these lines as well. It seems obvious that this offense needs a big back, one that can get three yards even when there is no whole. When you look at the success that Durham has had , and going back a little further, Jordan Oppenheimer, it seems big backs do really well in this district. Not that I want an "Owen Hauck" offense, but balanced offense is needed and SK is depending too heavily on the pass game. I think that the QB and receivers are feeling the pressure. SK has done way better than expected this year. Especially coming off a 2-9 season. Scott has some exceptionally gifted skill athletes. If the SK offense can stay on the field, they can be competitive. If not, it may be a very long night.

Hellbird, while Coach Borchers is a COY candidate, I believe you have to give Chuck Hendrix and his crew a lot of credit for getting the development program up and running in a hurry, and producing!

I probably should have said NKy instead of KY. I don't see enough of Louisville and Lexington teams to speak with authority.

Welcome to BGP Indy. I have no connection to HHS and I would have to disagree with you that HHS could not compete in GCL. The only thing between Highlands and a win over Elder the other night was a lack of big game experience. KY teams are built with a different philosophy than Ohio teams. On the defensive side of the ball, size is almost universally sacrificed for speed. Even on the defensive line, you wont see a DL much bigger than 220. For the most part, we do not see a lot of big backs here , (but when we do , they tend to be very effective). This is the only adjustment I see HHS having to make, bigger DL.

If Ryle does rest their starters, will it be because they want to be healthy for the playoffs, or because they are playing for the future? Last home game, probably senior night. Ouch!!! JVs will be on the field by the 2nd quarter.

Dixie beat SK who basically gave the game away with turnovers and dropped passes and needed ot to beat a very average Ryle team. Cooper in a rout.

It was 17 - 17 going into the 3rd quarter. Highlands was right there. After Elder scored following the McCoy pick was the key moment of the game. Highlands has never been under pressure in the 4th quarter. How would they handle it? 3 and out. Highlands just lacked the experience of being under pressure. Had they responded to that score, I believe they would have won.

After reflecting on the Dixie loss, I came to the conclusion that SK simply had their bye week too late in the year. The kids were not focused and they played like a team with mental fatigue. Now SK has finally had their bye and with it two weekends off in a row. Every team we played coming off a bye played their best. I expect SK to play their best game of the year as well.

The problems are deeper than a simple lack of talent. NKY 6a was not overwhelming last year either. Someone had to progress in the tournament. CC was only 3-7 last year with all wins in district. Boone is now the only program in the county w/o its own feeder system. Their whole OL is just flat out of shape. Execution mistakes galore. The program needs someone committed and invested in a feeder system. QB's in particular need to be developed in the middle school years. Freshman year is too late to convert someone to QB. Furthermore, this Boone team has more talent than its District competitors with the exception of CC.
